Stay close to your true self, stop going out to meet other energies. . Stay healthy in your body and let go of the physical pain you are carrying from these pandemic years. . Create strength and stability in your physical, mental and emotional bodies so you can move in the world the way you would like to. . Recommit to love, in all ways with all beings. . Question your prejudices and all of the ideas you’ve inherited or adapted that are not your own, you do not have to morph to belong. . Choose not to participate in in anything that doesn’t feel aligned for you. . Be the center of gravity in your own life… The minutes, hours, days and years of your life are yours to use as you choose. Make choices about how you want to use them—engage when you want to, pull in when you want to, learn to listen to the rhythms in this that are right for you. Speak this aloud in words, communicate what you need, how you feel, where your boundaries are, what you are available for and to. Animate new aspects of yourself every day, while still remembering source. Maintain friendships that sustain, and release yourself and others from those that do not. --from a journal entry upon returning from Costa Rica in December. These insights, and taking action on them, has already shifted so much for me. Travel can be a way to gain perspective--about ourselves, our relationships, and the world. Maybe some of these insights will be gems for you as well. And if you are looking for a journey this year, I'm leading three retreats and co-leading a destination teacher training this year. DM me with questions. February 20th-26th, 2023 Cartagena, Columbia is CALLING Fit4Travel and I have teamed up to bring you a week-long adventure to stimulate all your senses. This wellness retreat includes a volcanic mud bath (warmed by mother nature herself) followed by a cool refreshing swim in the surrounding lagoons, a kayak tour to see the city from the water, cooking class because once you taste the cuisine here you'll want to be able to share the sabor (flavor) with your friends. Wander through the beautiful streets of the walled city for some great shopping and snacking for a day so you're ready for our Salsa Dancing lesson---feel the rhythm of this vibrant Latin country as we learn from the locals. All aboard for the next day's adventure---snorkeling and swimming in and around the Caribbean Sea. We'll spend our day in around crystalline blue waters and visit the Rosario Islands. Add to that a cuisine tour, visiting the Bazurto market, and ample time in the evenings to soak up the sites, sounds, and tastes that are Cartegena. We'll have yoga and meditation daily to add to the wellness aspect of the trip---you'll leave this week in a healthy body, with a healthy mind, and with a happy heart. without you my address would be the wind . . My good friend and great poet & musician Jim Trainer @goingforthethroat sent this phrase from one of his poems/sogns to me a while back, hand typed on some high quality paper as Jim is known to from time to time. I loved it so much I magnetized it and stuck it on my fridge because I need good poetry at least in daily doses. . . That was three homes ago—well two really because I’m back in Austin now, so I’ve returned to the third. I’ve always been a wanderer, born to missionary parents in the Caribbean Sea, moved from there to the Pacific Ocean near the Cascade Mountains. Been chasing beauty and wonder ever since. . . I love the freedom to pack a bag, lock the door, and head someplace new and I created a life around doing that. I never thought I’d want anything different—until I met Ash. . . Ash is short for Ashwaganda, an Ayurvedic Adaptogen herb, and he has certainly lived up to his name. This sweet little mini-aussie has lived in three states, road tripped over 10,000 miles, met five teacher training groups, flown 17 times, roamed on beaches and mountains on all three coasts of the United States—and he’s only a year and a half! . . He loves running into the yoga studio (he’s visited twelve so far) and wiggles his butt at all the humans. If you throw the ball for him, you will be friends for life. He’s ALWAYS aware of what’s going on, and does his best to get a party started anywhere he goes. At the same time, he’s sensitive and kind, remembers his dog friends and human friends, and loves a good long nap. . . He’s my first dog—and he has my WHOLE heart. I had no idea how much joy and love a furry friend would bring into my life. I’ve learned to be more kind and encouraging, gentle and thoughtful being his human. . . I still love to wander, but if Ash can’t go with me, I have the BEST reason to come home. Sweet Ash, without you my address would be the wind, but with you anywhere is home. #aussie #miniaussie #yogateacher #myyogalife #yogaforeveryone #onlineyogaclasses #liveyoga #yogalife #balanceforbetter #yogaislife #yogamotivation #yogagirl #yogapractice #yoga2020 #energyispowerful #yoga-lifestyle https://www.instagram.com/p/CfUbkI8FYZw/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

a moment of beauty can change everything . . I love the vista of a wide open sky…fiery sunsets painted over the dusty plains of West Texas, night skies filled with thousands of stars in Montana, desert cloudscapes that are a world of their own above the Arizona desert. . . They remind me that anything is possible—a canvas open to be painted in an instant, transformed to brilliance. A night sky that begins with a single star, and soon bursts with lights from solar systems and galaxies beyond. . . Yesterday morning I woke up feeling the weight of the world—I suppose it was a hangover from the enthusiasm of beginning a new year, only to find many of the challenges of 2020 didn’t observe this transition and are still as daunting and difficult. . . When I feel this way, I go to the woods. I bundled up and hopped in the car—time to climb something to remember I can do it. On my drive to the trailhead, clouds through the trees took on that pink glow of early morning. Lit from beneath by the rising sun behind me, ethereal reminders—“…look, the sun is rising and the world is beautiful.” . . A single moment of beauty can change everything. I felt grateful to be alive to see just that pink hued cloud against a pale blue sky—how rare and wonderful it is to be there for it. . . In these coming days, if things start to feel too big to manage, seek out beauty and let it sweep over you and remind you what a rare and wonderful thing it is to be alive. . . It won’t solve the hard things—but it can put them into perspective. How are you finding perspective this week? #yogateacher #myyogalife #yogaforeveryone #onlineyogaclasses #liveyoga #yogalife #balanceforbetter #yogaislife #yogamotivation #yogagirl #yogapractice #yoga2020 #energyispowerful #yoga-lifestyle

If you know me well, you know I have wanderlust…planes, trains, kayaks, rickshaws. Whatever it takes to chase the magic, I’m there. . . Like any human living on our planet, this year has challenged me. It started as we cut our North India Pilgrimage short and hustled to get on a plane before all international flights were cancelled (another story for another day.) . . I went from interacting with at least a hundred humans a week to quarantine, jet lag, and zoom yoga. . . In April, I made a move to Tennessee, to live in my AirBnB and started learning how to live without group interaction or international travel. . . Over time I shifted my gaze from what I didn’t have to what was right in front of me. While I didn’t go to Machu Picchu or trekking in Nepal this year, I’ve learned the curves and contours of Stringer’s Ridge, our neighborhood trails. . . I’ve watched the leaves change color and fall to the earth at their own pace. The open space they leave behind lets light in at a particular angle in the afternoon that takes my breath away. . . I’ve learned to cook a few things and even made dinner for some close friends. I planted an herb garden and distilled my first herbal tincture (tulsi and it’s amazing!) . . Don’t get me wrong—I’m still chasing the magic. I’m just learning to see it in more places, and to appreciate the simple pleasure that lies closer to home. . . And someday, hopefully not too far off, when we are able to wander again, I know I’ll take this new vision with me, to see the beauty in the small details as well as the big vistas. . . What are you learning from this time that you will carry forward? I would love to hear, and I think if we share we double our wisdom. . . #yogateacher #myyogalife #yogaforeveryone #onlineyogaclasses #liveyoga #yogalife #balanceforbetter #yogaislife #yogamotivation #yogagirl #yogapractice #yoga2020 #energyispowerful #yogalifestyle

Be fully present. Feel your heart. And leap. —Pema Chodron I shared this quote on Saturday---and then haven't said much since then. I've been leaning into the process that is so elegantly invoked by the quote above and working it. BE FULLY PRESENT. Step one. Not so easy when trying to decide when and how to come back out into the world, what to keep doing, what to start doing, what to stop doing. Not so easy when my mind wants to rush ahead, to know what my life and work will look like in this new Covid-19 informed world or run back to the way things used to be. So I arrive in my body, feel my bones, soften my tongue. lift the back of my skull, stop doing anything and become fully present. FEEL YOUR HEART. Step two. Ahhhh, its tender and filled with grief and loss, joy and gratitude. I underestimated entirely how many feelings one heart can hold---how these feelings can live right alongside each other. My heart knows things my mind isn't ready to know yet because it isn't afraid. My heart tells me just enough to take the next step---it doesn't tell me the whole story because it knows I'm not ready yet. AND LEAP. Step three. Make a move. Risk letting go in order to arrive in a new place. Have the hard conversations because they are more honest. Take the wisdom of my heart into action. Let the next teacher--my life as it is unfolding--add its voice the teachers of body and heart. What do these three invitations invoke for you? I would love to hear. Also, I am teaching a yoga class ONLINE this Saturday morning at 9am CST if you want to explore this process with me--it's Vinyasa + Meditation and you can sign up for this LiveStreaming class thru the link in my bio or on my website under the link ONLINE practice. #giocondayoga #onlineyogaclass #onlineyogaclasses #yogateacher #myyogalife #yogaforeveryone #liveyoga #balanceforbetter #yoga2020 #yogalifestyle (at Thatch Caye, a Muy'Ono Resort) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAKxgq-lNUG/?igshid=1eq87f4g64x7i

So much change. Hard to believe in just a couple of weeks how everything is SO different. Went from sipping tea in the mountains in India with @livealiveadventures to whisking home and a two week self-quarantine. That ends today—-but not really as I will continue to observe distancing and keeping social circle extremely small. What has been a constant through it all is practice. Meditation, mantra, movement. Not to say I haven’t felt the waves—-of grief, of anxiety, of stir-crazy. But leaning into practice has helped me ride the waves rather than being crushed by them. AND it has been a “boon” (greatly beneficial) to take the seat of the teacher in the virtual format. Seeing familiar faces and new ones, taking familiar shapes and new ones, loving my existing communities and connecting with new ones, has truly been a saving grace. While life feels constricted on the one hand, it is also expanding in new ways. As my teacher @manorama9 said today “when there is loss, there is also gain.”(check out her live story for the full conversation). I am daily reminded of this as I stay close to the teachings of yoga and of my own heart. May we have peace in our minds, health in our bodies and love in our hearts. My online teaching schedule for the next week is: Thursday 9-10pm Dream Circle @practiceyogaaustin Friday 3-4pm Vinyasa @wanderlustyogaatx Sunday 9-10 Soul Flow @wanderlustyogaatx Monday 3-4pm Align + Breathe + Sit @practiceyogaaustin Monday 6-7pm Vinyasa @bfree_yoga Tuesday 6-7:15pm Vinyasa 2-3 @practiceyogaaustin Wed 6pm Yin + Restore @wanderlustyogaatx Thur 6pm Vinyasa @wanderlustyogaatx You can register through the websites for each studio. I am in the process of developing other virtual opportunities for study and connection. Stay tuned. Also, if you want to follow me @thebodyresilient I am sharing tools to support during these shifting tides. #giocondayoga #yoga #yogapractice #somaticexperiencing #somatictherapy #somaticmovement #stayhome #mantra #meditation photo credit: @travelswithjanan https://www.instagram.com/p/B-dfA34FN-L/?igshid=15ta6olt8m6f1

The light always shines through. On the same day we made the decision to shorten our India retreat, we attended Aarti on the banks of the Ganga. Disappointment melts into devotion and then resurfaces, serenity of this sacred river and the beauty of ritual and ceremony pull us back into the fullness of this moment. And a week happens in an hour. Prayers of peace offered up—lead us from unknowing to knowing, from darkness to light, from death to immortality. What is it we are coming to know through all of this? What darkness is lifting in order to reveal light? What is ending so we can send the unending energy beneath it? @livealiveadventures #yoga #yogaretreat #prayersforpeace #rishikesh #ritual (at Rishikesh) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9yAPjpFbht/?igshid=r0t8evcgumkt

The quality of your consciousness at this moment is what shapes the future. —Eckhart Tolle One aspect of practice I’ve been leaning into this year is staying present to what is. Sounds simple but what I’ve been observing is not just the moments In present, but also what pulls me away. I can be in the most loving company and feel separate if I am telling myself the story that I don’t belong. I can be in the most beautiful places in the world and miss them if I am worried about what’s happening elsewhere. Likewise, I can let the beauty of a sunset or the kind words of a friend bathe me in light and love and remember at this moment, all is well. I can let it nourish and uplift me so I move more from love than fear. It just takes awareness, that window that opens between a thought and my response to it, a breath to return to what is and to choose what comes next. I’m grateful for moments like this one, surrounded by beauty and good company as reminders to breathe, stay open, and from there, take action. Now, more than ever, let’s lean into these limbs of practice that help us navigate these shifting times. How are you staying present? Share in comments below! @thethatchcaye @muyonoresorts #yoga #yogapractice #staypresent #consciousness PhotoCredit: @lifeinanimage (at Thatch Caye, a Muy'Ono Resort) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9tAH1wlOme/?igshid=toq7813aqktm
