One sock is done, and I couldn't be happier with that gradient! It's really making me excited to finish the second sock so I can actually wear these (though It's getting a bit warm here for wool socks). I feel like I've really gotten used to using the 9" circulars, so now I'm really flying through the start of the second sock.
No pattern, they're just vanilla socks with pinned short row toes and heels.
Yarn is Willow Duo Sox in color 3 Aegean. I originally got it for 2aat (since it comes with 2 balls of yarn to make matching socks) but I think I like my 9" circulars better.

The leafs have multiplied! I've been doing one or two a day to keep myself from getting tired of knitting leaves, while still making progress. I also looked up different ways for how to make leaf garland, and I think I'm going to connect these with a crochet chain (inserting the hook through the bottom of a leaf when I want to attach one, then making the next chain by pulling the yarn through both the leaf and the chain) and then slip stitch along the chain to make it sturdier.
Pattern I'm using is below the cut, and I'd love to see if anyone else makes some leaves or a leaf garland from them!
The Leafy Leaf cowl was frogged and put in time out. I dropped the center stitch in between a line of yarn overs and ended up losing stitches and couldn't figure out how to get them back without making that leaf's lace a lot more open, so I decided to restart it later. Or not! I wasn't in love with how it was working up, so if I find a better use for that yarn I'll use it there instead.
This does mean that I'm back down to one project with the ace hat having been finished as well. Which means I'm all clear to (re)start the burgundy cardigan! I'm using a different pattern than last time I started it, and looking at it, I think the sleeves will end up too big if I follow the decreases as written, so I am probably going to wing that section and just take super careful notes so I can repeat it for the second sleeve. We're aiming for an end product I love here, that's why I've restarted this one so much.
Leaf pattern:
CO 6 stitches using Judy's magic CO or your favorite cast on for knitting from the center out. Divide the stitches so you have 3 on each needle, then knit a round.
1. *k1, yo, k1, yo, k1* ×2 (5st/needle, 10st total)
2 (and all even rounds) knit around
3. *k2, yo, k1, yo, k2* ×2 (7st/needle)
5. *k3, yo, k1, yo, k3* ×2 (9st/needle)
6. *k4, yo, k1, yo, k4* ×2 (11st/needle)
7. *ssk, k7, k2tog* ×2 (9st/needle)
9. *ssk, k5, k2tog* ×2 (7st/needle)
11. *ssk, k3, k2tog* ×2 (5st/needle)
13. *ssk, k1, k2tog* ×2 (3st/needle)
15. cdd ×2, break yarn and pull through remaining 2 loops twice, then hide tail inside the leaf

Something I meant to post as part of wip Wednesday earlier but didn't: After making a couple leaf cords to attach to my headphones, I had made one leaf slightly bigger to see if the pattern could be made bigger by doing more increase rows and then more decrease rows after, and then while the leaf sat there for a day or so, I was inspired to make a leaf garland with it! I don't know how many leaves I can get from my yarn since it was scrap yarn, and I don't know how many I can manage before my brain loses interest, but so far doing just one or two a day, I have 4 little leaves. And since they're pretty quick, I can usually manage one leaf a day at least, and still have time for other things. We'll see how this ends up turning out or how I connect them, but for now I'm enjoying my pile of tiny leaves!

The ace pride hat kit is coming along nicely! I'm definitely glad I started with the black instead of the purple like the pattern wanted, I'm much happier with this result overall than I was with the pictures of the finished hat as the kit intended. I have plenty of black and grey left, so I almost wish I'd added more length to each section.

Actually made some progress on the socks this week! With this week's progress, I'm about 75% of the way through the foot, and then I'll be onto the short row heel. The fade in this yarn is extremely gradual, but so far I'm really happy with how they're turning out!
No progress on the Leafy Leaf cowl this week. I'm planning the next restart of my cardigan after frogging it at the beginning of the month, and I promised myself I could start it once the Leafy Leaf cowl is done, so I've been trying to knock out some of my other wips first.

Today's impulse project was a little leaf for my headset! These aren't the headphones I intended the leaf for, but the i-cord is too small to go around the other ones (I honestly should have measured it). I'm honestly thrilled with the leaf part, though, and it was so fun to knit that I will probably make another one anyways.

I started a second Leafy Leaf cowl, this time in Malabrigo. I still love this pattern, it's a lot of fun to work up, and creates a gorgeous lace pattern.
Tumblr media
Also started the ace pride hat kit I got for Easter! The pattern wanted the purple at the bottom, but I'm starting with the black instead.
No progress on the socks this week though, so there's nothing to show there.

Here's the lace edging sample! It was a lot of fun, and I'm very proud of the progress I have made in not only knitting in general, but also in lace knitting. This is the first time I've ever knit with double yarn overs, and these swatches together are my first time ever knitting double sided lace as well. Now to just find a pattern I want to do to cure the lace rot disease swatching these caused!
Also, for comparison of sizes between all of the swatches, these are on blocking mats and the grid is 1"×1", so the smaller ones are about 4" square, and each has at least 3 repeats in the swatch, and the big one is about 11" by 3" for one repeat plus 2 rows of garter on both top and bottom.
Shetland Lace Class
Tumblr media
The knitter's guild had Lauren Nelkin, a knitting pattern designer who also teaches knitting classes, host a series of classes this weekend, and I was fortunate enough to be able to snag a spot that had opened up for her class on Shetland lace knitting this morning! These are the swatches I made of the bead stitch and bird's eye stitch, though I mostly worked on the bird's eye stitch at home. There's also a sample of a lace edging that's quite a bit bigger repeat, and a bit more intimidating, that I'll attempt to swatch up later.

I went to the local knitting guild's meeting yesterday, and was encouraged to bring a project to work on (since everyone besides the officers running the meeting will knit through the whole meeting), and I ended up getting nearly 20 more rows on my sock! Enough that the yarn coming from the ball is noticeably lighter, even if it hasn't shown up in the actual knitting yet.

WIP Wednesday

Since I do pinned short row heels, I didn't want to mess with trying to work on my socks this weekend while we were traveling, so I cast on a new project, and then just restarted it tonight because I didn't like which color was showing up in what part of the pattern. This is going to be a modified Versa cowl, my modifications below the cut. So far I'm really happy with how the colors look together, and I'm excited to see how it looks when it's done!
Modifications to the pattern:
I cast on 10 extra stitches, and will do a couple less rows for each section to compensate.
Instead of switching MC and CC every 15 rows for the broken seed stitch, I am keeping the gold as the main color and the green as the contrast color. For the plain stripes, I'll start and end with a green stripe.
Instead of casting off normally at the end, I'm going to kitchener the ending row to the cast on row. To facilitate this, I used a provisional cast on, and omitted the initial purl and knit rows before the pattern repeat starts.

NaKniCroMo Wrap Up
As a reminder, my goals were:
Finish the dog sweater
Knit a baby blanket
Work on the mitered square blanket
I ended up finishing the sweater (and delivered it) and I finished the baby blanket too! I didn't end up working on the mitered square blanket, but I did start a cowl I'd been meaning to knit for myself, as well as a pair of socks, so I'll consider that a successful month.
I also kept a running tally of how many rows I did per day and per week, and the grand total is..... 540 rows! Wow, that's a lot of knitting this month!
What a productive NaKniCroMo, and hope to see you all next year!

Finished Object Friday
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ends need to be woven in and it needs washed and blocked, but I'm going to count it anyways. I have a long list of notes for next time I make one of these (namely I want to replace the lace sections, and I did actually replace the ladder rib with broken rib and the double moss with normal moss, as well as a couple other minor tweaks) but it's done! Mostly I wanted a baby blanket on hand in case anyone I know has a baby, so I actually have something already made to give them, and also because I had the yarn in my stash and the pattern already picked out.

NaKniCroMo 2024: Wip Wednesday
The last wip Wednesday of the month! Currently I'm working on finishing up the pink baby blanket (no pictures, as it doesn't look all that different from last time while it's still on the needles) and I cast on a pair of toe up socks:
Tumblr media
I started with Judy's magic cast on and a short row toe, then switched to 9" circulars to work the foot. So far I've only knit a couple rows on the 9" circs, but I really like them so far! I'll switch back to longer circs for the heel, though, since I don't think that will go as well on the shorter needles.
This yarn is very splitty, but I'm excited to see how the color transitions throughout the sock, and it works up into a nice dense, warm fabric.

The new bag strap is done! It turned out just a tad shorter shorter than I had planned, but it turned out to be a good thing! It may actually be a bit long still. It's the perfect length for over one shoulder when adjusted as short as it will go, and when I adjust it to the length I need for crossbody, I still have quite a bit of room to adjust it to be longer still. Overall, I'm really happy with how it turned out!

Bewind is in progress!
Help me decide on a pattern!
I recently got a new project bag and want to weave a replacement strap for it that's adjustable and also able to be longer than the one I currently have so I can wear it cross body if I want to. I've narrowed it down to two patterns (pictures below the poll) but need help deciding.
Gelt:

Bewind:

Bewind is reversible, so the pattern will show up on the back too, but Gelt is not if that makes a difference. I still think the back of Gelt looks really cool, though, it's just not going to be the same as the front.
It will probably be a few days before I start weaving this, though, since I will be at my family's this weekend and won't have access to my weaving.

The finished band from the other day, turned into another dog collar for my parents' dog, Archie. My dad's favorite of the patterns I shared with them was the green one I made before, and my mom's favorite was this one, so I figured I had enough hardware, I would make both and they could decide amongst themselves which one he wears first.
I'm going home this weekend for a family dinner, so I plan to deliver the sweater and collars to them then.
