5) Matcha beer. (Actually good!)
6) Natto with rice. Not as bad ad you would think!
7) Onigiri with sour plum (umeboshi) filling. I like it very much. :)

Look for the Shounen Jump shops! You can find good things there. (HEP Five - Osaka)
Akihabara is a wierd place even if you are into anime/manga/video games.
Sure, you have your figurines and cards, and vintage figurines and cards. But it becomes a bit creepy when you can make your own doll, select head shape, eye colour, hair colour, dresses - and can choose the breast size as well (changeable, should something else take your fancy).
The travel books and videos forget to mention that these shops cater to the Japanese audience. Here being an otaku is a really private matter that people do at home. You can find figurines, manga, dvd, games and funfic all you want, but not a proper T-Shirt or tote bag.

Ramens from Kyoto’s Ramen Street.
You can try various famous regional ramen variations on the 10th floor of the shopping mall on top of the train station. It is easy and fast to order your meal from a vending machine.
