Crafting a peaceful home office with Scandinavian touches
With the rise of flexible working the home office has become increasingly vital in our lives. Clients are now seeking beautifully designed spaces where they can comfortably work from home. Having a dedicated area for work fosters concentration and productivity, enhancing the overall experience of working remotely. Creating a serene and aesthetically pleasing environment is crucial. When the space feels tranquil, comfortable, and practical, working from home becomes a pleasurable and focused experience, free from distractions.
In one of my recent projects in London's Victoria, a stunning apartment within a Grade 2 listed period building, a client requested one of the spaces to serve as a home office.聽I was excited to blend contemporary interior design with the property's original features. This fusion often creates stunning results. By adding clean lines and subtle hues of the Scandinavian decor, the inherent beauty of the period features remained prominent, allowing them to shine and breathe.
Tumblr media
The high ceilings and abundant natural light streaming in through the period windows already created a light and airy ambiance. Addition of warm wooden floors and shelves enchanced warmth, creating a welcoming workspace. A palette of fresh light grey tones injected a sense of freshness, complemented by the sophistication of dark furniture accents.
Tumblr media
Incorporating plants into the space was essential, as it not only brought a touch of nature indoors but also contributed to fostering a feeling of calmness that is beneficial for productivity.
By achieving a harmonious balance between coziness, comfort, airiness, and freshness, the home office transforms into a sanctuary where productivity seamlessly intertwines with relaxation.

Creating a personal retreat - calming master ensuite
Bathrooms hold a unique place in our homes, serving as private sanctuaries where we can retreat and rejuvenate. I strongly believe that they should evoke a sense of nurturing and calmness. Creating a space where you can unwind within your own home is essential, and the bathroom often becomes the perfect haven for moments of solitude and self-care.
Personally, I am drawn to darker colours in bathrooms as they create a cocoon-like atmosphere that enhances relaxation. In one of my new-built home projects, I had the opportunity to create a stunning master ensuite. Situated on the top floor with large windows framing lush greenery, the space felt truly special. The surrounding greenery added a sense of serenity and natural beauty to every moment spent in the bathroom.
Tumblr media
The rich, dark-toned walls and smoked oak contributed to the cosy ambience, enveloping the space in warmth and comfort. Every aspect of the design was carefully curated to create a nurturing environment where one could fully unwind and recharge.

What do you think? Can you imagine yourself unwinding in this calming ensuite?

Embracing warm minimalism for enhanced well-being at home
The misconception that minimalist spaces are cold and impersonal often arises from poorly executed designs. A well-designed minimalist home, however, possesses visual interest and subtle details that captivate attention. Anyone who has designed or built a home with a minimalist approach can agree that extensive planning is required to achieve effortless simplicity.
Tumblr media
Warm minimalism, in particular, resonates with me for the feelings it evokes. Spaces designed with harmony and simplicity in mind have a calming effect, fostering a sense of relaxation and unwinding. It's the delicate balance of natural textures providing depth and tactility, warm colours creating a nurturing environment, and layered lighting crafting a tasteful harmony collectively shaping the experience of a balanced and calm home.
Tumblr media
Often it is thought that minimalism eliminates personal belongings, however, it's about creating storage and spaces where items can be stored without overwhelming the senses. Careful thought goes into selecting items for display, each serving a purpose or evoking cherished memories. A well-thought-out minimalist design requires time, attention, and consideration, creating a rewarding outcome - a purposeful, well-thought-through home that promotes a sense of balance, recharging one's energy and fostering internal tranquillity.

What are your thoughts on warm minimalism and what are the best examples you have seen?

Modern tranquility: Japandi-inspired design in a London apartment
My soul finds peace in the exquisite fusion that is Japandi style - a beautiful marriage of Japanese simplicity and the cosy essence of Scandinavian living. The combination of light wood tones and subtle detailing creates a serene and balanced atmosphere, evoking a sense of harmony within the space.
In a recent project nestled in the heart of South Kensington, I wholeheartedly embraced the Japandi aesthetic. Collaborating with skilled joiners, we meticulously crafted beautiful wood details that not only added texture and depth but also brought a touch of artistry to the environment. The use of lighter hues complemented the wood, allowing the inherent charm of the apartment to shine through.
I kept the palette very simple but played with texture to elevate the design, imparting a subtle yet compelling allure to the spaces. The result is an interior that exudes quiet sophistication, where every nuance contributes to an overall sense of tranquillity.

Isn't Japandi style the embodiment of pure perfection?

Fireplace and wood burner inspirations for contemporary interiors
There's nothing quite as comforting as coming together with family around a warm, crackling fireplace. Whenever possible, I incorporate a fireplace or wood burner into my projects, as they not only serve as a cosy focal point for the family but also add a captivating feature to the interior. Below, I've provided a few examples where I've integrated a fireplace or wood burner:
Tumblr media
This is library space in one of my projects in Richmond, I designed a mantlepiece that beautifully marries the timeless charm of a traditional fireplace with a contemporary touch, seamlessly blending with the overall look and feel of the entire interior.
Tumblr media
Wood burners add a stylish central feature to your home, offering a more relaxed feel compared to traditional fireplaces. In this family home in Teddington, I designed a sleek concrete bench that complements the polished concrete floor, all while providing ample space for firewood storage. On top, I added a contemporary wood burner, which created a central point in the main living area.
Tumblr media
This South Kensington apartment already had a stunning marble surround that was unfortunately overshadowed by a dark hearth and insert. To restore the fireplace's grandeur and allow its true beauty to shine, I replaced the previous hearth and the insert with lighter stone, which not only harmonized with the mantel but also breathed new life into the entire space. The fireplace became a centrepiece of the room, radiating timeless elegance and captivating charm.

Minimalist Charm: Creating Striking Shelf Displays in Scandi-Inspired Spaces
Shelves go beyond being mere storage solutions, they act as blank canvases awaiting transformation. Through thoughtful curation of diverse textures and varying sizes, you can create a stunning display which invites your guest to explore. Personally, I love melding an assortment of textures, sizes, and item types, infusing interiors with a dynamic display which reflects my style.
The key to a successful shelf-styling project is a harmonious blend of sculptures, ceramics, books, and the introduction of greenery. Striking the right balance amongst these elements is important, allowing each component the space to breathe and preventing visual saturation. For instance, rather than stacking books uniformly, consider a combination of vertical and horizontal arrangements, punctuated by strategically positioned objects around them.
I love adding greenery to display, whether they be vibrant potted plants or elegantly dried foliage. They create an inviting touch and a sense of lived-in charm.
Additionally, I always add handcrafted ceramics which add another layer of texture to the display. The imperfections etched into the ceramic fabric contribute an enchanting depth with timeless beauty.
To illustrate, here are a few instances of styled shelves. Observe closely to find some of the techniques used 馃槈

Creative storage solutions
At the heart of my design philosophy lies bespoke cabinetry, a crucial element that consistently sets the tone throughout the interiors I create. My passion lies in maximising both aesthetic and practical potential, ensuring that every space not only looks stunning but also serves my clients' needs seamlessly. One of the most common challenges my clients face is the lack of adequate storage, and I take great pride in devising innovative solutions to address this issue.
Tumblr media
Here is one of my projects in South Kensington, where I combined the elegance of minimalism with the cozy allure of Scandinavian style. When crafting wardrobes, I often incorporate open shelves, providing an opportunity to display personal items and infuse the space with character. This thoughtful touch adds dynamism to the wardrobe, elevating the overall ambiance.
Tumblr media
In one of my Notting Hill projects, I designed a TV area with bespoke storage that cleverly hides media equipment and cables, while adding softness with creative open shelves on the side and introducing texture with rattan inlays.聽
Tumblr media
Returning to the South Kensington Project, I utilised bespoke open shelves combined with drawers to create a striking focal point flanking the window, bringing balance to the room. The drawers discreetly store small items, while the shelves serve as a delightful display for personal items, striking a perfect harmony between functionality and aesthetics.
My advice is to approach storage creatively, envisioning it not just as a practical necessity but also as a unique focal point infused with personality. By doing so, your home can be both beautiful and functional, elevating the overall design to new heights.
What do you think, which one is your favourite?聽

Kanaal Gallery - mesmerising spaces by Axel Vervoordt
June has been an extraordinary month filled with inspiration. I had the opportunity to visit Copenhagen for 3 Days of Design and attend Antwerp Design Week, both of which were incredibly exciting and inspiring events. These experiences have had a profound impact on my interior designs, as I find myself increasingly influenced by the elegance of Scandinavian designs and the unique aesthetics of Belgium.
My goal was to immerse myself in these two worlds, allowing me to refine my skills and take my designs to new heights. Among the countless memorable moments from my trip, one that stood out was my visit to Kanaal Gallery, a masterpiece designed by the legendary Axel Vervoordt. This encounter was an awe-inspiring blend of art and space, showcasing how the two can harmoniously influence one another, transcending mere physicality and reaching spiritual and emotional dimensions. The sheer beauty and tranquility of the spaces left me utterly captivated. Words cannot adequately convey the depth of emotions I experienced during my time there. It is an experience that defies description and can only be truly understood by visiting and witnessing the spaces in person.

If you ever have the opportunity, I highly encourage you to visit Kanaal Gallery and immerse yourself in its mesmerising atmosphere.

Adding art to minimalist interiors
I am passionate about incorporating art into my clients' spaces. Art has the ability to transform a room, adding character and depth while reflecting the homeowner's personal style. I especially love using textural art in warm minimalist interiors, as it creates a sense of visual interest and adds warmth to the space. By selecting unique and thoughtful pieces, I'm able to enhance the overall design aesthetic, creating a space that is both beautiful and harmonious. Incorporating art into my designs is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work as it truly elevates the space to the next level.
Below are pieces I recently used in one of my projects in North London, hope you like them as much as I do :)

A centrepiece of every home, kitchens have become the most important rooms for our everyday living. They are spaces where we live our busy family lives, where we entertain and where we enjoy a quiet cup of coffee. This one space has to accommodate many functions and can be a difficult balance to get right. Your kitchen needs to be a harmony of function, beauty and comfort.
I love designing kitchen and developed so much knowledge over my career where now it feels so natural to design them from scratch. It鈥檚 a great way to maximise the space and create something truly unique.

A Beautiful Bath
I recently came across this stunning bath known as Clay Series from Belgian designers Studio Loho. Beautiful and unique, it鈥檚 made from all natural materials, complimented by a natural form that looks almost handmade.
Tumblr media
I love the bath鈥檚 organic shape and soft lines, being made from ceramic with a聽lime plaster coating, each one has a slightly different form and unique texture. I think this gives the bath a warm inviting look which beckons you to run a bath to sink into and relax. It鈥檚 the little irregularities and imperfections which make it look so perfect.
Tumblr media
This piece would work well in a more natural scheme surrounded by other organic tones and textures, where a more conventional bath might look out of place. You can see this working well above and below where the polished plaster finish perfectly compliments the bath, as does the beautifully rich timber floor.
Tumblr media
The lime plaster finish gives a smooth, silky touch for maximum comfort. This layer is available in a wide variety of earthy colours, and the clay surface texture is also customisable, with the option to have a more raw or smooth finish according to your preference.
This is a bath which embraces materiality, it鈥檚 definitely a beautiful way to add personality to your bathroom.

Bedroom Inspiration - Comfort & Texture
It鈥檚 time for me to tackle my bedroom at home, so I thought it would be good to get my thoughts down on paper and share them here.
When thinking about bedrooms I want to feel that I鈥檓 being hugged by the space, and want feel super comfortable and relaxed. So with this in mind, here are a few bedroom design concepts I鈥檝e been thinking about..
Tumblr media
I love simple, upholstered headboards, if using natural textured fabric they add so much softness to the space and are super comfy when sitting in bed. Also lovely bedside tables are key, so I鈥檓 really looking forward to upgrading my current ones.
Tumblr media
Another thing I love in bedrooms are paper pendants. I love their simplicity, soft texture and the warm diffused light they create. They are great for adding character and a cosy feel to the room.
I plan to pair this up with one of my favourite finishes at the moment - limewash paint. Applied with a special brush using X strokes, it has a beautiful subtle movement to it. I鈥檒l use this behind the bed to give the walls some texture and add depth to the space.
Tumblr media
One thing I do for all my clients is use linen bedding, and I will be treating myself to the same! I鈥檓 truly in love with it, the natural texture adds so much softness and interest to the space, making the room feel beautiful and super cosy, while staying simple.
As per the concept photo above, I actually already have the JWDA table lamp from Menu, but in concrete, which has a lovely natural feel to it. The globe is frosted and creates soft warm light, while the dimming function is great for creating a nice cozy feel in the bedroom.
Tumblr media
No bedroom is complete without bedside tables. I like idea of wood or a natural stone finish. Above is another beautiful product from Menu, the Androgyne table, with a lovely marble top, which actually has a limestone feel to it. I think the final decision for side tables will be the hardest, as there are so many beautiful designs to choose from!
I hope you鈥檙e getting the cozy hugged vibe from the concepts above, I can鈥檛 wait to get started on my bedroom project :)
