they (my other followers) dont know about the valdes beheading incident
no but hmm... for most of them not really. i think i'm too sentimental about them to permadeath any of my characters on purpose, and with my dnd characters the games i'm in are generally more storytelling and rp, so being mostly for the sake of playing with my friends death meaning being totally done with a character isn't too often something that comes up. and things worse than death can and often do happen. now tht i think about it, the presence of death & the fact they are alive when they shouldnt be or don't want to be or someone more important isn't is something that comes up with a lot of my characters...
when it comes to my non dnd characters though yeah, i have some that exist in their narrative to die . i haven't yet decided a character i've had for a long time should die without that being something intended from the beginning though.

💼 - What do they do for a living?
currently he's a house player for a casino run by the mob. ie he fixes games when the house starts to lose too much and weeds out/punishes cheaters by just winning against them rather than having them thrown out by bouncers to attract less attention.
(unnecessary fun fact: i came up with government mathematician/physicist who uses this ability to cheat casinos out of money just because I thought it was funny but I genuinely had no idea it's a totally real thing that nasa employees did at the time )
but he is... weird?? and usually plays for people's personal posessions more than money. combination of 'his job is to keep the house from losing money he's not actually getting those huge payouts' + 'the most gratifying part of this job is both people watching and winning so secret enjoyment out of watching others losses to him up close and it being as personal as possible' (insane person) + 'magpie habits around good luck charms' so he's more often coming home with like... people's jewelry and lucky dice and gold teeth than actual money (insane person.)
most of what actually pays the bills is more likely residual payments and patent licensing from tech and other research done at his government position.
🎹 - Do they have any hobbies?
i guess magic study would be a hobby for him still, now that he doesn't do it as a job. he is still pretty committed to understanding and researching magic, he just doesn't share it with anybody else anymore. coming home from his sleazy casino job to wind down by going full insane wizard in a cave in his apartment for fun. genius who dropped off the face of the earth & when they die tons of unpublished papers are found type beat... I think sometimes if somebody manages to get a hold of him he'll do a guest lecture at a university once in a blue moon.
he... CAN play piano but he's not really creative or passionate musically. it's more about memorization and repitition than the music itself, something he does for stress relief and has gotten good at because he's frequently stressed lol. the image of him playing a piece he's memorized & someone asking what he thinks about chopin's work and him being like (unaware that's what he just played) who??

✨- How did you come up with the OC’s name?
my very initial idea for him was 'guy pretending to be cooler than he is/secretly a loser, bad at lying but carefully omits things all the time' so before a lot of other things w his character, I decided he goes by his surname instead of introducing himself with his first. a lot of his mannerisms when I play him are based on mid-century radio and film acting so I named him after the actor & comedian Germán Valdés !
as for his first name my dm and i compiled a list of dorkiest things his first name could be & my dnd character names are all nouns so we went with Cariño (dear/darling/sweetheart etc).
💀 - Does your OC have any phobias?
i think the only fear of his that is on the level of a full phobia is he is pretty claustrophobic. especially now that he's become a storm genasi, i think he's a lot more sensitive to being contained or restrained in any way. needs to be in open air, etc... his fear of open water has come up ingame but I think that's an extension of his claustrophobia haha, feeling trapped in one place even a very open one. loss of control and feeling trapped, in both a literal and abstract sense, bothers him a lot.
that's the only thing that'll like give him a total shut-down panic attack but he can be pretty jumpy in general when he's out of his element. which has been... the entire campaign he's in. he got so scared he fainted last session <3

i dont think so. he kind of... lacks self awareness...? too much to really think about whether he's attractive or not. not in a low self esteem way he's just thinking about other stuff lol true body neutrality. his design is kind of a running bit i had while his campaign progressed of putting him in increasingly sexy outfits every time we had a costume change opportunity despite him being a pretty. sexless individual lol.

currently yes, they are on good terms :) though it's a pretty recent development. they spent a lot of their marriage in a sort of strained... married on paper but functionally separated purgatory. (THEY ARE LEGALLY STILL TOGETHER I THINK? he's been too busy being trapped in the nightmare dimension to get served papers dw about it) he's always liked and cared about her a lot, but at least on valdes's end he finally wised up that just being amicable co-parents rather than trying to be her husband out of a sense of obligation was saving them both a lot of grief
