Since I sometimes make posts about gauge swatches people sometimes expect me to be able to tell them why their swatch lied to them and sometimes it's the resting step but sometimes it's not and gauge can be affected by a LOT of things like mood and stress, among many many others. And I'm good at knitting lace but I don't consider myself an expert knitter! There's lots of stuff I don't know! I am constantly learning new things!
So I've decided to join the "I don't knit gauge swatches I just suffer" people and get Catholic about it. The swatch lied to you because it was possessed by that guy who denied knowing Jesus. That's why it betrayed you.
I am a third of the way through the (530 stitch) cast off. After that one sleeve needs sewing up, a few ends need to be woven in and she needs some embroidery to finish her face.
Then I need a moody stormy night and a trip to the theatre.
just realized i never posted this one anywhere! i did this project last summer - it's my old stardew valley character! (my current one looks pretty different, maybe i need to do another one...)
it wasn't a particularly large project but there were a bunch of different colors, and it got tricky managing all the ends. i love how it turned out though!
i have progress photos too if anyone wants to see those 👀
Behold! My new favourite colourway. Super dark, tonal green. And it’s on this incredibly soft SW merino DK base. Her name is Petrichor, and you can get your hands on her here
And don’t forget there’s 20% off right now if you use code APRIL20 for orders over £30!
The Stunning Astronomical Beadwork of Native Artist Margaret Nazon
Margaret Nazon has spent the past decade building intricate beadwork depictions of outer space. The colorful artworks balance representational and stylized aesthetics set on black fabric backgrounds to depict galaxies, planets, nebulae, and other astronomical phenomena.
Initially inspired by Hubble space telescope images, Nazon’s celestial renderings are part of a lifelong interest in beading. In an interview with Glenbow, the artist shared that she began beading at age 10, but found the density of traditional beadwork to be tedious.
The abstract nature of celestial images allows Nazon to be more interpretive and incorporate different materials like caribou bones and willow seeds that have location-specific or cultural significance. Nazon is Tsiigehtchic, part of the Gwich’in community in what is now the Northwest Territories of Canada. The artist explained that because she is retired, she is able to dedicate significant time to beading, and often rises at 4:30am to begin working. Nazon plans to continue experimenting, including merging her abstract beadwork with her seamstress skills to create artfully embellished apparel.
Nazon’s artwork was most recently exhibited at Glenbow in a group show, Cosmos, and A Beaded Universe at Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. You can read more about her in the Glenbow interview, and explore Nazon’s portfolio on her website.
The button should not be too close to the fabric, to allow for the extra layer when buttoned. So do not sew it on too tight and wind the yarn a couple of times around the “stalk” of the button.
You can sew a smaller button on the wrong side to avoid pulling and tearing the knitted fabric.
it may not look like much but this is stuff for three separate projects!!
the dmc floss is what i need to finish my flower (i KNOW i had all the colors originally, but i started this project over two years ago so those two colors have just vanished into the ether. it is what it is)
the blue thread is Sulky, i've heard it's good for gridding so i'm going to try it for my new SAL project! i've never gridded before but something about it seems very satisfying so i'm looking forward to it
and the q-snap will be for my first cross-stitching-on-clothing project! this one has been in the works for a WHILE so i'm incredibly excited!! i thought the fabric plus waste canvas would be too thick for a hoop, so i'm trying the snap frame to see if i like it
man i love spending $20 on some craft supplies. joyous day
I had to take a week off knitting, and the two weeks around that week I barely knitted, since I have this weird radiating pain from the outside of my shoulders. I still managed to finish these though! And I'm very happy with them. I don't know what yarn this is, as it’s the oldest sock yarn I had in my stash (hence why I chose to knit with it now). Still the same pattern as Februari and March, and the same as May will be (which I just started on! Handdyed yarn!)
working on this old project again! i'm trying to get it done so i can start a couple new projects
i'm waiting on a couple colors that should come in the mail tomorrow, but hopefully i can knock this out this week?? i still have to do the last two petals, the center of the flower, and then the stem and leaves

Well, I finished about 2/3 of the pattern for my friend's veil before I had to bind off and block it. The wedding is on Saturday. I've been doing very poorly health wise and this was Shetland lace so I couldn't work on it while brain foggy AND if I worked on it for more than like an hour and a half I would get post exertion malaise so it just wasn't happening. I would like to give the pattern another go some other time though. It's well written and pretty without being a years long commiment on my part.
they're done!! my dreams of stardew valley chicken socks have been fulfilled. what a time to be alive
