Today in history, 170 years ago on 26th December 1853, the current building of St. Stephen's Church was completed and it opened for worship - St. Stephen's Day.
Even though small in size, it began with ministering to the spiritual needs of about 20 families.
Stories tell us that St. Nicholas of Myra, a bishop, decided to defend sacred tradition and the scriptural interpretation of the reality of Jesus as the Son of God the Father. One of the houses of the late phase was built by Nawab Sadat Ali Khan on the banks of Gomti to accommodate the Commander-in-Chief, the General. Thus in the course of time it came to be known as the ‘Jarnail Kothi’. A huge bungalow (or call it a small palace) was built by Nawab Sadat Ali Khan just by the side of Farhat Baksh Kothi (Chateau de Lyon).
