Asch Paradigm
[[I rambled this originally on August 16th, 2016. I’m sharing it here in it’s original unedited form, because I want to bring all of my rambles together.]]
In psychology, the Asch conformity experiments or the Asch Paradigm refers to a series of studies directed by Solomon Asch studying if and how individuals yield to or defy a majority group and the effect of such influences on beliefs and opinions.[1][2][3][4]
Developed in the 1950s, the methodology remains in use by many researchers to the present day. Applications include the study of conformity effects of task importance,[5]age,[6]gender,[7][8][9][10] and culture.[5][10]
I just came across this while looking up information on gaslighting, and this reminds me of Asch from Tales of the Abyss. Because he’s the main God General to turn against the other God Generals (1 vs. 5) which is a part of the Order of Lorelei (the leading group for the World’s Religion) thus defying a majority group, and a lot of what Asch does (and his life in general) is based on his beliefs & opinions, and the influences of situations with those beliefs & opinions.
Task Importance: He is always task-oriented, making sure certain things get done (he even stays behind so that Luke can advance and defeat Van, because Asch himself knows he can’t)
Age: relation to Luke
Gender: Male, original tertiary heir to the throne
Culture: The Score was the cause of him being kidnapped and replaced, which caused him to become more hardened to life in order to survive. Without the Score being the majority influence in the world, the kidnapping wouldn’t have happened (let alone the entirety of the game wouldn’t have happened lmao)
