More Cleo
Some more Cleo updates since my last post about her on here! I mostly post on twitter nowadays but I like to keep this account somewhat up to date, especially since I can be more long-winded here lol
"Casual" Cleo (rerooted Ghoul Spirit Cleo) is finally finished! She's been mostly finished for a month or so but I dragged my feet doing the hair rings lol.
They're inspired by a set of wig rings found in the tomb of Sithathoriunet (Middle Kingdom, 12th Dynasty), shown here at The Met and here in an earlier Met exhibit, displayed on reconstruction wigs.
I couldn't find any metal beads in the right sizes or color (and I wanted them to be the same shade of gold as her accessories) so I made these myself with a handful of coffee stirrers that I painted and cut into little rings lol
Other than the hair rings, she's been given a pair of shoes since my last post (Goreganizer Cleo's shoes with the Skullettes dremeled off and painted), a new choker that I made by cutting MB Cleo's ponytail holder into separate pieces, sanding off a few parts and reassembling it (the cartouche on it actually spells her name btw!), a Gloom and Bloom Cleo purse that I painted to match her shoes and a new clasp on her kilt made with a G1 Cleo vanity bracelet.
Also, it was pointed out to me yesterday that the hieroglyphs on this top (from G1 I Heart Fashion Cleo) spell out to say "oh my Ra" phonetically lol. A nice touch that I never noticed!
And I also finished up this Cleo a while back but never posted her here lol
Her headdress is a heavily altered and repainted Monster Ball Cleo headdress; I just wanted the "core" of the headdress so I removed everything but the cow horns and sun disk with my dremel, then drilled a hole through the back and pinned it to her head lol.
The bracelets are all g1 Nefera bracelets that I repainted (as well as Nefera's necklace) and her shoes are from Skulltimate Secrets Cleo but repainted to match the rest of her accessories, and the hair rings are repainted G1 sig/Howliday Cleo bracelets.
The first two 'tiers' of hair are her original rooted hair, but the longest tier is an extension that I made and pinned to her head.
My general idea is that this is something she'd wear for temple ceremonies or religious events, or as a model for portraiture and statuary that represents her as an embodiment of Hathor? Not sure!
My SS2 Cleo custom got some small updates shortly after my last tumblr post about her, mostly just her new headdress and new fishnets that actually fit her lol
And finally a group shot of my current Cleo lineup:
Skulltimate Secrets Cleo (far left) and Goreganizer Cleo (second to the right) are still WIP but they look good enough to be part of the shot! I also have a partially rerooted Monster Ball Cleo waiting for a new fit too, but there's no room on this display for her and she's barely dressed anyway lol

She's a magical girl who fights to protect the innocent from anxiety and depression demons using her magical rocket launcher. (I'm still working on her magical companion)

ugh, do I have to do EVERYTHING around here???
I painted the details in on my fearidescent dolls accessories and shoes. I love the ombre don't get me wrong but it feels like production wise they just half asked a lot in this line. which I suppose is typical mattel.
sigh.
I wish they'd given Monster High at LEAST a year before cutting corners so hard, g3 has so much potential and was so fun at launch

LA’s Totally Awesome to the rescue AGAIN!
I picked up some Twilight Barbies at Goodwill.
Jacob and Edward were fine, though I wish they’d come with their clothes.
Bella had glue head and a hairtie stuck in her ratted up coif.
Most of these images have been blasted so the details can be seen.
I hate glue head so very much and was irritated at the thought of having to do a full reroot until I remembered that I have the cure for glue head.
You can get LA’s Totally Awesome at the Dollar Tree. Buy the concentrate, not the pump bottle. The pump bottle has a nifty sprayer, but it’s also already cut with water. You wan the full-strength concentrate.
I did see something similar (same shape bottle, similar layout of label, same color liquid) at Walmart but keep forgetting to see what brand it’s sold as.
I keep these ice cream cups from Aldi for just such a purpose, especially since they have lids.
put her in a cup of undiluted TA, put the lid on loosely, and stick her in the window.
No idea whether being warm makes a difference, but if hot water makes the glue seep worse, then it might help, and a warm, sunny window isn’t going to make it TOO hot. Do Not heat cleanser on the stove or in the microwave. A bright window is sufficient.
Put them neck-hole up so that the glue can float out as it softens. That will save you a little bit of effort.
This was on day 1, and it had already started working. As soon as the glue is soft enough to do it (sometimes the heads are hard-hard solid with glue), squish the hell out of that head. That helps break up larger pieces and also helps dislodge the glue that’s stuck to bare vinyl instead of in her hair ends.
Every few hours stick something in her head and slosh it around violently to break up more of the glue. In this case, I use my hemostat. While it’s closed, it won’t pull out her hair. Don’t use anything you want to keep that ISN’T surgical steel and can be easily wiped with acetone, or you’re going to ruin whatever it is. Head glue is the worst.
Change out the cleanser as often as it seems to have a lot of glue bits floating in it. I think it was twice the first day, then three or four times on the second.
It also helps dislodge glue if you run the head under a thin stream of water at the faucet. ALL of that nastiness in her hair came out that way.
There was still a good deal left.
More soaking, more violent agitation, some scraping inside the head where there isn’t any hair, more running under water and a lot of squishing. More more more until she’s done.
How long it takes and how much TA depends on the doll and how much glue is in their head. For Bella, it was 3 days.
Once I was satisfied, meaning there is still visible glue in there, but trying to get it out would also remove large areas of hair, I pulled her from the chemical bath and conditioned her hair.
At first her hair still felt gross and scruffy like it wasn’t taking conditioner in a few areas, and I didn’t understand why until I remembered that I hadn’t detangled her, yet. Don’t try to detangle glue-saturated hair, it’s not worth the unpleasant experience.
Once she was properly combed out, her hair felt fine.
Then I sat her out to dry overnight to see how her hair felt in the morning. If it was still gummy and gross, she’d go back in the cup with some fresh TA.
You can see in this image where the glue was coating the inside of her face and discolored it. There was so much glue it only left her chin.
I hate head glue.
You can also see that the hair is soft and clean and free of sticky clumps. What you cant’ see is that the part in her hair is still a little goopy. I’ve found that tends to be the case with every glue-head I’ve fixed. The hair density there prevents the cleanser from getting rid of the glue properly. Maybe if I soaked them a lot longer, but I don’t want to risk damage from prolonged exposure.
And to show that the TA didn’t mess up her face, here’s a not-blasted out image.
