Slice of life
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My home decor style is definitely maximalism.
I've recently bought some new home goods (pic 1) and was very happy about it. I've swapped the basket with a smaller basket that holds knit vests and gilets. Need to find a new home/purpose for the old basket (was too small & overflowing) but one step at a time!
I've finally hung up the cute pottery witch I've got for my birthday last year from a friend. It's really adorable!
Also put up those gold sun decorations. They're just pretty and that's all they need to be!
And I've put the big bag basket I've bought myself for my birthday last summer up in that shelf. It's a real basket chilling spot now!
Picture 1: A big round whicker basket in a light sandy colour sits on a bed. It's filled with some home goods, like a white linen sheet and gold sun decorations made from metal.
The bed is very colourful. You can see a peak of off- white curtains with leaves and flowers and birds on them. The bed covering is a cheery yellow. Some off- white linen with yellow and orange flowers is folded next to the basket. You can see blue pillows, and blue and gold banting and a golden wall mandala in the background.
Picture 2: A wide view of a corner of the room, a white shelf with decorative white metal brackets can be seen, from which hangs a green ceramic witch. There's another floating shelf with a silver candelabra on top and an amber-coloured glass dish. Purple flowers and curious cats on a picture round off the corner view.
Picture 3: The wall next to the corner view from pic 2, it's a white wall decorated with a skinny white floating shelf, with a blue pottery dish on top, a framed paper collage with green writing and butterflies and a ceramic vase with flowers painted on it, filled with purple and magenta coloured flowers. A line of wallhooks featuring cats (made from metal) hangs above the shelf, with white feathery earrings & ear jewelry hanging of it. There is a canvas picture of an open Japanese umbrella underneath, with black spines and herons painted on the surface. The warm sand & orange colours of the umbrella are giving sun vibes!
A whole swarm of blue, white and yellow butterflies are flying around the golden metallic sun-like wall decorations. On the bottom you can see two wall hooks in the form of antique keys: one a brown-black metallic colour and one white-washed. To the right is another rack with hooks, in the shape of an ornamental golden-white key (previously pink, painted gold by me) .
Picture 4: A close-up of a cute ceramic witch hanging from another shelf with decorative ornamental white shelf brackets. She's hanging in front of a silver candelabra (without candles) and an amber coloured glass-dish. It's like a cup with a domed lid kind of. In front of the candelabra and glass dish is a big purple flower.
Picture 5: A high shelf with decorative ornamental white shelf brackets holding up the shelf. On the shelf is a big light-coloured wicker basket that has a long cream-coloured woven strap so you can carry around like a bag. A yellow round basket with a lid is stacked on top of a bigger red round basket with a lid. You can see two cupcake hooks at the bottom of the picture.

Gothic Lolita Austria is organizing a BIG teaparty this year! (With international guests and all! Our first one since the pandemic hit a stop button on such plans.) I'm so excited for the Royal Symphony of Roses teaparty we're organising for June 8th 2024. I'm part of the organization team this time around (for previous teaparties I was a shop-assistant-chan and helped my friend out selling her beautiful jewelry. In the meantime I've infiltrated the lolita ranks further and can now do even more work! Haha. It's fun though!)
I wanted to look back to the last one we had! It was ~HalloWien~ in 2017. HalloWien is a pun/wordplay on Halloween by the way. Vienna is called Wien in German (what we speak here) and as the date was very close to Halloween and our last big teaparty was Gothic-themed and next to the big cemetery in Vienna HalloWien was very fitting!
You can read what I wrote a couple years ago, I'm just adding an image description now.
Picture 1: A picture of the fashion show, with a tall blonde model showcasing "A Full Moon Night" by designer Haenuli. I'm in love with the phases of the moon design on the bodice and the skirt of the black dress and the sheer blouse they paired with it.
Picture 2: A group picture of ALL the lolitas who attended HalloWien teaparty! You can see from the dark colour scheme that most everyone went with the Gothic theme.
Picture 3: A close-up selfie of my friend & me (Amy). We're both young white women with long brown hair. My friend is thin and wears her hair open with bangs, and the way she holds her head in this picture gives her a snake-like appearance. I'm fat and wearing rimless glasses and wearing multiple braids, further decorated with added black ribbons braids. I'm wearing a bat-like half-bonnet with a dark red (blood red! think dried blood) flower-crown in front of the half-bonnet. I shared one of my face tattoo bat stickers with my friend, so we match. And of course I'm wearing some jewelry from her - an anatomical heart to fit my vampire queen vibes!
Picture 4: A picture of a tram way in front of the main entrance of the Viennese Zentralfriedhof (Central Cemetery).
Picture 5: A picture of a young, thin, white woman with pale-pink hair worn in soft curls. She's wearing a white fairy-like coord with handmade translucent fairy wings at her back and a delicate white crown (decorated with roses) on her head.
Picture 6: A picture of a young, tall, thin and white woman with brown hair, worn in an up-do and decorated with a hair veil. She's wearing a black elegant blouse and a JSK dress with a galaxy theme print on it.
Picture 7: A picture of a petite young white woman with light brown short hair, worn in two pigtails. Her pastel coloured coord features a dress with a medical themed print, hence she's wearing an ey epatch to match the theme. I especially love her lavender and white striped socks too!
In this picture you can also see more of the background most pictures have been taken in front of - it's an elegant sofa, with a taller sidetable with a silver candelabra on it. There's a cute little pumpkin too! Behind the sofa are windows and you see a peak of the outside and some wooden lattice, that's behind one window
Picture 8: A close-up of me (Amy) outside the building. I'm a young fat white woman with long brown hair worn in many braids (with added braids made from black ribbons) and also wearing rimless glasses. My (rare) make-up is dark to fit the vampire vibe: the smoky eyes almost disappear on camera but you can see my blood-red lip and my bat sticker face tattoos. I'm wearing a bat-like half bonnet and a dark red (think dried blood!) flower crown. Some fir trees are behind me and I'm making the "off with their head" hand gesture. Here you can also see the dark red cutsew (decorated with lighter red lace I made for the occasion and the ~Queen of Bats~ JSK dress in black and grey with lots of bats on it. (Also handmade by me.)
Picture 9: A picture of a young, thin and white woman with long brown curly hair. She's wearing a brown bonnet decorated with lace and flowers and a pretty brown shawl (decorated with pins & brooches) over her chocolate-brown lacey blouse and the lighter cream-coloured dress with a fairy tale print on it. Individual fairy tale book pages are framed by brown vines. She's also holding a red apple, which gives a clue that the fairy tale her dress depicts is Snow White.
Picture 10: A screenshot from the movie The Craft, with the four teenage witches exiting a bus and telling the driver "We are the weirdos mister".
Picture 11: Six young white women posing in front of the Ronacher theatre, decorated with larger-than-life vampire fangs for the famous musical Tanz der Vampire (Dance of the Vampires). We enjoyed the musical with the visitors from Russia. Everyone has dressed for the occasion and we're giving major vampire vibes!
Picture 12: Last but not least is a meme I've made, of my French friend & me sitting on the picture taking sofa. Our faces are censored and we're proclaimed as (not so) anonymous sewing addicts. On the bottom is the logo of Textil Müller, a famous local fabric store with amazingly low prices (The buy & sell second hand ware, B grade, leftovers from business closings, etc) .
My friend is wearing a classic lolita coord, with a handmade hat (by herself) and an earth-toned JSK dress with a book print. In this picture you can see more of my bat-themed dress as well.
[/image description]
HalloWien - the people make teaparties special ♥ (Part I/english)
Every two year my local lolita community hosts a big teaparty. This year was one of those years!
Tumblr media
HalloWien - a spooky gothic lolita event next to the cemetery! was this year’s name and the first time that our teaparties had a kind of theme. Of course it was up to everyone to come as they like, but you could expect much more gothic lolitas than usually. After Metamorphose and Innocent World as guest in previous years, 2017 special guest was Korean designer Haenuli. She showed some of her famous dresses, as well as some new ones in the fashion show!
Beware, a long, rambling & very excited retelling of the HalloWien-teaparty follows after the cut! ♥

Mixing this inspiration picture with inspiration I took from Kaneko's iconic split bodice dresses to cook something new up....
Tumblr media
These are fabrics I bought 2007 in Tokyo. Yes quite some time ago! As you can see they have the same print but different colourways. I want to use them to create a split bodice and a big split bow as well.
I don't have a fabric for the skirt part yet though... so I need to aquire that somehow.
First 4 pictures show stock pictures of a wa lolita dress by Japanese brand Metamorphose. It has a shortened bodice made from beautiful kimono fabric in a rich golden colour with red and purple flowers on it. The bodice is decorated with beautiful red tassles and white lace. The skirt part has a deep purple plum colour with a ruffle of the kimono print fabric peaking out at the bottom. A plum waisttie decorated with red lace finishes the look off.
The link shows a preview of an off-white onepiece dress printed with knightly images.
The singular picture at the bottom shows two fabric: a black and a purple one. They have the same pattern of horizontal almost brush- like strokes/stripes and sakura inspired flower branches.

A fairy-tale belt
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you know how hard it is to find rings? Surprisingly difficult and hard to come by! These were "craft rings" from a inexpensive store, but I was thinking about buying curtain rings.. but those are also apparently hard to come by??
It seems I will have to order more rings online if I want to make more belts like this one in the future! Anyway, this gorgeous magenta/berry-coloured belt was made for a handmade advent calendar swap I've participated in last year. Some presents were handmade, some bought. I had lots of fun making all the things for my swap partner :)
This belt can be wrapped twice around your waist and tied off with the ring. The little flowers and leaves add some whimsical decoration. I've attached them with golden jumper rings to the braided belt.
Picture 1: The finished magenta/berry-coloured braided belt laying on a blue towel. It's already wrapped, like you meant to wear it. The lightly coloured wooden ornaments add some whimsy and fairy-tale charm to the belt.
Picture 2: The beginnings of the belt! The lightly coloured wooden ring is hanging over the knob of a little vintage cupboard. Long strands of magenta/berry-coloured jersey fabric yarn have been knotted to the wooden ring, yet to be braided.
Picture 3: The long strands of the magenta/berry-coloured are hanging down and tangling together. They are yet to be braided! You can see an open shelf and some bags and stuff in the background. Creative chaos! [/image description]

Fabric star ornaments
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I made this fabric stars pretty last minute for my handmade advent calendar swap. Better late than never, right? I had just enough fabric scraps to make exactly two stars. That made me happy! They don't have to be lonely now.
The fabric is very festive, with it's deep red background and has a holly and mistletoe (berries and leaves) print. At the same time it's a kind of subtle christmas pattern in my mind. It doesn't scream KITSCH like other decor does sometimes! With the natural theme it's kind of subtle.
Picture 1: Shows the paper pattern I made for the stars (traced from a beeswax candle), the outline of the star in pencil on the fabric (Only on one side because it's folded in half) and the first finished star (with a green yarn loop and stuffed with batting)! The fabric is very festive, with it's deep red background and holly berries and leaves print. At the same time it's a kind of subtle christmas pattern in my mind. The finished star looks very pretty and christmas-y.
Picture 2: The second star is in the process of being sewn. It's almost all sewn up (per hand) and the seam allowance has been clipped with pinking shears (can also be seen in the picture). The finished star is there too, because it's cute.
Picture 3: Yay! Two finished fabric stars!! The pattern of the fabric shows up different on them and showcases various leaves. [/image description]

Oops, I did it again...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ordered some pretty, pretty fabric because I can!
(And because I found it in a German store and only had to order it across one border and not all the way from America, which is a pain in the ass! Before Brexit you could get the pretty patchwork fabrics from the UK, but that's a major hassle now too. So it's best to find a store that already imported it to Europe for you.)
Two pictures of a fabric printed all over with intricate spell books and grimoires. The colours are dark and intense: red, green, blue and black - with gold and silver accents. Makes you think of mighty witches....
Picture 1 is a close-up and picture 2 shows more of the fabric.

Little acorn ornaments
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... I completely forgot to take progress pics of these. Ooops! But here's the reel that gave me the inspiration for it.
instagram
I had so many ideas for the advent calendar swap I've participated in but couldn't actually realize all of them. I'm happy I could do something with the acorn hats I've gathered together with a dear old friend - namely making these cute little acorn ornaments.
I've used some dark green linen and a plaid fabric scrap in brown with green and red threads mixed in for the fabric body of the acorns.
I didn't drill holes in my acorn caps like in the tutorial, but threaded my yarn through little wooden beads and hot glued those to the acorn caps. The stuffed fabric acorns were also hot glued to the cap and voila!! They're stinking cute!!!
[image description] Picture 1 is basically just a bit more zoomed in version of Picture 2. Both show four finished acorn ornaments, made with fuzzy acorn hats, which have been hot glued to a fabric acorn body. Two of the acorns are made from dark green linen and two with a plaid fabric scrap in brown with green and red threads mixed in. Wooden beads threaded with yarn have been hot glued to the acorn hats, so you can actually hang those cute acorn ornaments. [/image description]

I've used this pattern, but it's in German. Maybe you can use an online translator or search for a similar English pattern?
Or do you maybe mean the indent on top? You use the leftover yarn and thread it on a needle and poke to the bottom and tighten it.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After some time I had to say: no more crocheted fruits! I just had too much fun making them, but the handmade advent calendar I made for swap should have some variety after all and not only crocheted fruits for pretend play.
This apple turned out kind of short and round. I was a bit sceptical about the instruction for the stem but then it went well and looks so cute!!
Picture 1: An apple is in the process of being crocheted! For now it looks like a shallow red crochet bowl. Some black jersey thread is being used as a stitch marker. The apple-to-be is laying on the written down instructions on how to crochet it!
Picture 2: The red crochet apple has been finished and is laying next to some light brown and light green yarn, which will be the stem of the apple and the leaf of the apple respectively.
Picture 3: The red crocheted apple is finished, but the light-brown stem and green leaf are only just finished and have yarn tails still hanging off. They are only placed on the apple to see how it will look and have not yet been sewn together.
Picture 4: The red crochet apple viewed in a nice close-up from above, so you can see the shape of the green leaf nicely.
Picture 5: The crocheted apple viewed slightly from the side. You can see the natural shape and the light-brown stem and green leaf in good detail. The red apple is laying on a bag with green stripes, which gives a nice and fitting contrast. [/image description]

BS tote? Bud Spencer tote!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I participated in an advent calendar swap this year and this embroidered tote bag was part of the present for the 24th (Christmas). My swap partner specified that I could also include something for her little daughter or husband and this tote is meant for her husband. He's a fan of the actor Bud Spencer, who's movies about him meeting his enemies with fists raised I also used to watch with my grandpa as a child.
Very on brand: while I was embroidering Bud Spencer's name the yarn got caught and a tear was caused in the fabric. I had to do a quick mend and sew a patch over the tear before I could finish my embroidery.
I came up with the pun/saying myself and figured it was funny. I hope my swap partner's husband thinks so too! :D
[image description]Picture 1 - 4 show the progress of a black tote bag being hand embroidered with white thread. The saying "Stop the BS - The only BS I like is Bud Spencer" has been written down in white pencil on the tote bag (in capital letters) and is steadily being embroidered, until the 4th picture shows the finished embroidery.
Picture 5 is a close-up of the bottom part of the black tote bag, which focuses on the big "BUD SPENCER" part of the embroidery. [/image description]

Acorn shibari/ acorn charm
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My friend @trasno-personal inspired the title as they called the acorn charm acorn shibari. Which is funny and fitting!
This is part of what I made for the handmade advent calendar swap I've participated in! I can finally show all the little (or not so little?) goodies here. Maybe you'll get some ideas for presents or things you can make for yourself!
I've used a picture on pinterest, plus my vague knowledge from watching some tutorials before to create the knotted string net encircling the acorn.
The dark green thread was a gift from a former friend of my mum's and the key ring comes from this loot of military ad key chains I've got as freebies at a convention some years back.
Picture 1: A silver keyring with an acorn in a green knotted "net". There's a loop to connect it to the keyring and a little tassle of strings at the bottom.
Picture 2: A screenshot from pinterest. I've used the hand- drawn image on the top left on how to knot the net encompassing the acorn.
Picture 3: The acorn charm laying next to one of the military ad keyrings I've used. I cut the keyring off to attach it to this acorn charm.

Coverings for the fae of heart
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I got majorly lucky when I thrifted this gorgeous wool-mix bolero shrug! It was buried deep in a bargain bin with otherwise hats and scarves. I can never resist a good rummage (even though I didn't plan on getting anything - but rummaging is most of the fun anyway!
I almost couldn't believe my eyes when I unearthed this gorgeous bolero shrug. The colour is so beautiful and the details are sooo good! I love the lace knitting on the sleeves and the bow like closure at the front. If that bolero came in my size, better believe I'd wear the hell out of it! As it is, it's a perfect upcycling/refashion project for my handmade advent calendar swap. This was the present for Christmas Eve ♥
I've hand embroidered a fern grass border along all the edges of the cardigan with a colour changing yarn in light mauve-and-gray-colours. I really hope my swap partner loves it as much as I do!
Picture 1: The finished refashioned knit bolero shrug. It has a deep mauve/dusty purple colour with lace knit details on the sleeves. The edges of the bodice (neck and bottom) have been hand embroidered with a thick yarn in light mauve-and-gray colours in a fern pattern stitch.
Picture 2: My cat (a brown tabby) claiming the freshly thrifted bolero shrug (along with some other items) as her newest cat bed!
Picture 3: A close-up shot of the beginning of the fern stitch embroidery on the deep mauve coloured bolero shrug. You can already see the colour change from light mauve to gray in the first couple of stitches.
Picture 4: A long line of embroidered stitches along one edge. Laying next to it are two balls of yarn: the colour changing yarn I've used for the embroidery and a uni coloured lighter reddish berry-purple that also was a contender.
Picture 5: A close-up of the embroidered fern grass stitches almost (but not yet!) meeting along the bottom edge of the bolero shrug in the back.
Picture 6: The deep mauve coloured bolero shrug is laying down with it's arms folded across the bodice. 3/4 of the hand embroidery is finished, only one edge is yet to be embroidered.
Picture 7: A close-up of the fern grass embroidery, that shows but the "good" side (what you see on the outside) and the "bad" side (what you see on the inside). On the inside the embroidery shows up as a row of short stitches.
Picture 8: The deep mauve coloured bolero shrug laying down on the table with the fern grass embroidery in light mauve-and-gray colours finished. [/image description]

Wichtel 1.0.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had a vision in my head for these pine cone goblins and wasn't satisfied with the outcome of these. Don't get me wrong, they're certainly cute but didn't mash with the picture in my mind. So, these are the first version of pine cone goblins/imps I tried to make. Figures that they would be mischievous and give me trouble. For the advent calendar swap I made a second version that I sent to my swap partner, because they came closer to what I envisioned.
But these are very cute as well and got to stay with me!
Picture 1: Three pine corn imps in a test state. White papermache balls have been places on the pine cones as heads. The middle imp has a simple face sketched out in pencil. Because those pine cone imps can't stand on their own, they're resting against sand-coloured cotton yarn (which will be used later to add loops to hang the imps up as decoration).
Picture 2: Five chubby pine cones laying on a brown table top.
Picture 3: Three papermache balls (which have been painted green) stuck on toothpicks, which in turn are stuck into two cleaning sponges. This construction holds the papermache balls up while the paint is drying. Two wooden disk have also been painted green and are propped up at the side of the cleaning sponges as well. A plastic file and some newspaper keep the table top clean from paint!
Picture 4: A tilted image of one finished pine cone imp. It's got a green painted head with a simple face drawn on in kind of thick brown brush strokes. On it's head the imp wears a red felt cap, with a sand-coloured string coming out of it, so you can hang it.
Picture 5: All three of the pine cone imps (version 1.0./first try). Two of them are hanging in a way that they're not facing forwards but rather to the side. [/image description]

Leaf-in hair treatment (aka leaves for your hair)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I made these leaf-y hair rings for an advent calendar swap I've participated in!
The idea translated so well from the image in my head to how they actually came out! I'm really happy with these cute leaf- hair rings and want to make some for myself to keep & incorporate into my outfits.
Picture 1: An open notebook with the idea for the leaf hair accessory sketched out in blue pen. Some leaf shapes have already been cut out of green fabric printed with ferns and are laying next to the sketch.
Picture 2: A leaf sketched out on grid paper and cut out, in order to use it as a pattern. Two hairrings have been already prepared with it. The wooden spool of white thread and the green lace flower and wooden leaf earrings are coincidental clutter, but fit the theme well!
Picture 3: A decision was posed between a small brown hairring and a bigger brown hair ring. A finished leaf pair, ready to be attached to one of the hairrings is laying beneath. It's made out of two fabric leaves, which are connected by cotton yarn in the middle. The fabric leaves have been decorated with a stitch around the border and one stitch stem down the middle.
Picture 4: Shows the inside of a leaf. The two fabric sides have been sewn together but not yet turned inside-out. The threads also haven't been clipped yet, nor the seam allowance cut back. You can see the second leaf poking out of the turn hole.
Picture 5: Two finished hairrings with leaves knotted on them! They are both big hairrings (in brown and black). The fabric used for the leaves has a pretty fern pattern on it. The leaves look somehow inspired by nature and cartoonish at the same time.

Little Christmas trees!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I saw someone making these but alas while I love buttons and have a lot of them I didn't have such a variety in one colour. Then I came across a variety pack in assorted green shades and thought: aha! Now I can recreate that cute little DIY!
To be honest the sorting progress was a lot of fun already. Then I threaded thin wires through the buttons to connect them in a Christmas tree shape (and added a wire loop at the top so you can can hang them).
They turned out so cute!!
Picture 1: A big pile of buttons in various sizes and shades of green.
Picture 2: A little tree made out of buttons in various shades of green, stacked according to size (small at the top to big at the bottom).
Picture 3: The pile of buttons in Pic 1 sorted into the different sizes, so I can turn them into a tree!

What I want to buy next year;
A button maker machine! (For private use and for my lolita fashion association as well - if I buy it in time we could make gifts for our goodie bags too!)
I have my eye on this one:
Which also offers new badge blanks relatively easily, it seems:
And the second size:
I would probably buy the button machine with the starter kit at first, try it out, and when I see that it works well buy the additional blanks.
Ahhhh, my hands are itching to make pins!! I have dreamed of my own button machine for several years already...
