✧*｡ || he wouldn’t say it was a smart plan, but it was a plan. he’d heard a tale once as a child—- about a grand war between three powers & a mighty battle taken place upon boats. two sides joining forces against the last force & winning due to a dastardly plan of setting the entire fleet of boats from all forces ablaze. it had mystified him as a boy ! inspired him ! perhaps he took the story a bit serious to heart considering his habitual destruction of his vessels in fiery ways. it worked. against pirates, against the hoard.
of course now that one of their enemy’s own fleet members lay rest in flames he can take a moment away from the distraction & chaos to evaluate himself & others. as always he was fine or close enough—– Adora however, ＂ perhaps it’s best we leave this behind to better things. ＂ the look on her face told him everything he needed. ＂ come, have i ever told you the tale of the pirate Griddlebone ?
when he speaks she finally truly looks away, shifting her body so she cannot see the remains of horde ships blazing behind her. even if life is unfortunate enough that from this distance she still has to smell them. she would like to consider sea hawk a friend now, he’s fun and his songs maybe silly but she likes them. also he let her fight a sea monster and she really liked being able to do that.
her brow shifts in confusion, she’s never heard of that pirate. not that in itself is surprising. one of the biggest surprises about joining the rebellion is how little information about the world she actually held comparatively.

clawing out of my heart / @gcrras
adora, the she-ra, the princess of power. chosen to bring balance back to ether. a chosen one of sorts. still blue eyes go wide, as they focus in on her foe. twitchy black ears and little brown nose, gold and blue eyes narrowed as they focused in on adora’s face. how long had it been since they had a real moment alone. not since adora had agreed to let her go.
her fragile teenage heart feels the harsh clawed fingers of regret clutch as she remembers her choice. they were not friends anymore. the hands she had clutched onto through out her childhood, was the one she had let go of. she had no business being this pained and upset seeing catra. she took a steading breath before finally meeting the force commander’s withering gaze.
adora just barely resists the urge to reach back and grasp catra’s hand. letting go was a much harder process than she had thought it would be. adora had never expected to be easy but being apart from someone she had relied on and been so close to for so long. it felt less like a gut punch and more like overwhelming and unfillable ache where catra had once been, even though her friend-former friend stands before her.

adora is well aware that whispering woods maybe her home right now, but that does not mean that she knows them well. there’s so many plants large colorful and untouched by the horde’s disgusting pollution. the animals run free and happy among the the bright leaves. she’s starting to learn some of their names as they flit by, but she’s never seen this little beastie before.
she kneels down, eyes focusing on the little white lump of fluff before her. his twitchy nose and little tiny antler’s warming her heart with everything she had. she gently reached her hand out so that he could sniff her hand. she wants to make friends with him.

adora feels a blush creep over her cheeks. the horde demands uniformity. when you break that view, what does it make you? she presses her face into calloused palms. she’s not supposed to like anything except for absolute victory let alone someone. especially not when the someone in question is a girl.
there’s clear and obvious relief in her relaxing shoulders. maybe she’s not alone, maybe there’s other people in the horde who feel the same heart palpitations that she does. the warmth in their core when another girl’s fingers running over the back of her hand.
the word lesbian is whispered in the halls of the fright zone, with disgust and terror. but adora holds it in her ribs, safely between her and catra. far from the furies of shadow weaver. catra feels the same. another life experience to share, to help them together even when shadow weaver’s cold shadowy fingers reach behind and try to uproot their baby gay lives. it would not work because they were stronger together, they would be always been stronger together.
