Oxford Street -the conformity of our surroundings
I remember that I saw this impressive decoration last year in the same street, Oxford street. celebrating its coming Christmas day and new year. This year when I came across again I felt familiar to the street and area.
The street has the same landscape but the number of people are passing and disappeared. Ballard describes Our emotional response is blunted and we become unable to engage directly with our surroundings without the mediated images of television and advertising. Peter Ackroyd said, we are beginning to realise that there are other enchanted areas in London which remain visible and powerful to anyone who cares to look for them. the enchantment is one of place and time; it is as if an area can create patterns of interest, or patterns of habitation, so that the same kinds of activity seem to emerge in the same small territory.

From Paris Central to Saint-denis by cycling through a canal video starts
There is a canal in Paris, called Saint-Martin running 4.5km towards the river Seine. It was constructed in early 19th by Napoleon with fresh water to support a growing population and to help avoid diseases such as dysentery and cholera. It seems obviously that a town and residential area are actively built along the canal. It takes normally for 40minutes on a bike. This video is observing changes from central to suburb from a cycling view. Noise, surroundings, pave. Firstly, We can recognise changes from a sound slowly down to silence while far away from city centre. Secondly, it is a row of building and shops in the centre with people strolling by the canal, but in the contrast, there are few houses along the canal graffitis, factory area. Thirdly, bicycle lane has a different condition. in centre area it has a clear mark and sign board but the travel shows unpaved and uneven road makes hard to ride cycling there. On the other hand, we can also think about the lack of service facilities in suburb has some opportunity we can discover or explore unlike city centre which has full of services provided allows us only restricted action. J.G.(James Graham) Ballard says i think the suburbs are more interesting. In the suburbs you find uncentred lives. so that people have more freedom to explore their own imaginations, their own obsessions.

It is not surprising to be hardly able to access google map street view in a space between two cities. The area with blue allows to see street view. This accessibility has unconscious influence for us to overlook the presence of a space we passed by. This between space is a space without a name.

Recently I went to southampton to get a train which was the only purpose because some pictures are needed and I haden’t got yet so far. It was simple. A camera underneath a shelf captured one picture every a minute. I was trying to observe an unconscious behaviour in a space. From London to Southampton it took about 2 hours. So I could have 120 stop motion images. Then I draw some lines on it following a outline of legs, head, spine, arms. Then it’s called ’39 minutes in a train’. Every minute shows a subtle difference, sitting steadily, leaning my head against a window, putting my head down on a fordable table all of which are for trying to find the best position in a chair. Exploring a habitual gesture reveals not only a pattern of body but also highlights restricted environment. The more the movements are created, the more uncomfortable it means. Responding the environment remains our traces. Actions are layered and collective outlines create new territory.

A-E-I-O-U 2016 그룹 쪽 Group JJOK

Discovery on the road from Berlin to Dresden
Usually all our attention would be a window landscape swiftly changed at all times to wait for our destination. The mesmerised image helps us to forget a boredom in a long trip. I was in Germany on the way to Dresden from Berlin. Bus was running a high way number 13. As topographical conditions are similar in the western Europe, there was flat land and low mountains incessantly appeared and disappered in a window frame. The high way would be constructed by the pattern of landscape avoiding some villages, rivers and hills. This broad concrete road is sometimes unmatched with surroundings while trees and wind-mills are standing vertically but the road is lying horizontally, The road delivers people and cargos from a city to a city.
