Tim Gibbons was the only person I've ever known who answered the question "how are you?" with a percentage and I loved him dearly for that. He danced with his demons and his fears and threw them up into the air like grains of perfect white sand. He was funny and funky and courageous enough to not even seem to ever consider not totally being himself. He was an inspiration and a really great friend. Most of my father's photographs were posed shots with lot's of smiles and something scenic in the background but this one's different... It's a candid shot of me at about 11 holding a copy of ZAP (or perhaps The Zap) which was the comic I used to make on a weekly basis by folding up 5 A4 sheets of paper, stapling them together and filling it with words and pictures until there was no more room. Then I'd get another rack of paper, fold, staple and carry on. My parent's archived pretty much all of my childhood but not one single issue of Zap so here it is, if you look very carefully but more importantly there's the boy who made it; the boy who still couldn't read or write only the year before making up for lost time and there's my Dad behind the lens, not asking me to pose or smile or act up for the camera. We'll always have this moment my Dad and I.
