Experimenting with albumen printing. I have really responded to this process!!! It's pretty involved and I definitely need to practice in order to get better at my technique, but I cannot wait to see where this takes me and my work!

Worldwide Pinhole Day 2014 was April 27th! Here are a few of my contributions. The one on the top right was actually taken by my fiancé. --His first experiments with alternative and historical photography. SO PROUD! The bottom images are of the 4x5 I converted into a pinhole camera for the day.
My students really enjoyed themselves as well, check out our gallery on the official Worldwide Pinhole Day website: Here!

Boss is our 8 month old kitten and has broken his tibia on his left leg. We are trying to raise money so we can get him the help he needs.
ATTENTION ANIMAL LOVERS!!
Boss the cat needs to have surgery on his leg SOON or they will have to amputate it. Unfortunately, like a lot of animal owners, his owners are having a hard time coming up with the expensive cost to get the surgery scheduled.
They have started a fund raiser to get the money they need to help heal Boss. Let's show our support and give what we can. If you don't have the funds, please share his story so as many people as possible can hear about him.
WE CAN DO THIS!! Boss needs us right now, lets combine our resources and save his leg!

Memory of a moment in time and the factual event are oftentimes fragmented and out of focus. This duality triggers an emotional response that ultimately develops into our personal history. As time passes we remember events differently upon reflection; we peel away layers searching for a truth. Our memories are grounded in truth but the falsehood within our recollection blurs this line and becomes lost somewhere in a realm of fiction.
Events and memories blend together the same way these images blend together, as an incoherent gaze into my past while still acknowledging my present. They display an external visual of perception intertwined with the people and places I experience. Who we are is fundamentally made up of a collection of our experiences. This disjointed collection of my experiences is expressed visually through double exposures and surreal hues.
In displaying these images through projections, one is invited to superimpose themselves within the compositions on and around them. While these images directly represent my experiences, the projection allows my memory to blend with that of another. These silhouettes represent an internal view without showing self. Like memory, these transient shadows are not tangible, just as the projections are not tangible; they are both there and not there.

Memory of a moment in time and the factual event are oftentimes contrasting and out of focus. As time passes, either because of additional insight or disregarding details, we perceive a moment differently upon reflection. Moments in time have a tendency to blend together and mold into something entirely different. I am very interested in exploring this duality within memory.
Here is a look into my latest work. I'm stepping into the realm of color film. It's actually been quite refreshing.

Rayko International Juried Plastic Camera Exhibition
When: March 5th through April 29th 2014 Opening Reception: March 5th from 6pm to 8pm.  Address: 428 3rd St, San Francisco, CA 94107
The juried competition was open to international artists working with plastic cameras with plastic lenses.  The more obsolete, flawed, and lo-tech, the better. Images were taken with cameras with limited controls, such as Diana, Holga, Lubitel, Lomo, Banner, and Ansco cameras. Beautiful prints from less-than- gorgeous cameras – that’s what will be on display! This is RayKo’s largest exhibition of the year with artists from all over the globe submitting work, and hundreds of attendees at the reception.

Luna de mi Vida / My Sun and Stars
Emma Elaine Dobbs
Recently, my fiancé and I moved in together. Through this experience I have learned that living with him entails getting to know him on a more profound level, even though a certain familiarity was already present. I am exposed to his habits, mannerisms, and his private daily rituals; things that previously only occurred while no one was watching. In this vulnerable time for us both a particular magic transpires that becomes evident in seemingly insignificant details of our lives.
Moments that are both exciting and bizarre occur when personal space begins to blend with shared space, mine turns into ours, and the future molds into a collective discussion. It is awkward. Sometimes it is annoying. We are unmasked and unprotected, but together in this openness a considerably deeper bond develops. These images speak to the minuet details. They show the inherent changes of our environment, the odd longing while we are separate, and the affection surrounding our relationship.

Latent
Emma Elaine Dobbs
The playful essence of the carnival juxtaposed with the eerie secluded night eloquently portrays a provocative air of a haunting unknown. A blend of fact and fiction, these images take the viewer on a dreamlike psychological journey of the underlying harsher realities of an amiable memory. The viewer is drawn in by the ideal, and pushed away by the abrasive reality within a moment. These uniquely intimate cyanotype prints quietly discuss alluring beauty, disjointed youth, and an unsettling longing for repose.
The latently familiar ambiance is vividly recreated using a Holga plastic toy camera paired with long and multiple exposures. The blue surreal otherworldliness conveyed in this series is meant to provoke anxiety and uncertainty toward the hyperconscious of reminiscence. Narrative connotations with an aesthetic that is rich and seductive allows the viewer to mentally fill the absence of people through their ghostly silhouettes. These intimate prints question a bizarre timeless world forgotten.
