Accessible also works on other layers of access, especially including economic access!
"Walkable city" is not "City where to have to walk everywhere."
"Walkable city" is.
Sidewalks big enough to fit you, your stroller, your wheelchair, your guide dog, or anything else you need when you're getting from one place to another.
Safe crosswalks frequent enough so you don't need to walk in traffic.
Bike lanes to keep bikes out of foot traffic and car traffic.
Accessible and affordable public transit.
Cities where the essentials are close enough you can travel on foot (or in wheelchair)
Cities where it's reasonable to be able to get from point a to point b without requiring you, yourself, to drive
People get so caught up in the "Walkable" part of the term and like to spout "Walkable cities are abelist because not everyone can walk".
Bitch. The modern city structure is abelist because not everyone can drive. And classist because not everyone can afford a car and it's pretty damn impossible to get a job if you don't have a car.
Walkable cities are cities where people can reasonably get from pointA to pointB without requiring a motor vehicle.
"But fae. Disabled people have issues using the paths in modern cities." Bitch abled people can barely use the paths in modern cities. That's kind of the fucking problem.
Also walkable cities have fucking benches. Not only for disabled people. But sometimes you just twist your ankle and need to sit for a moment.
"Put fae. If you have benches, homeless people will sleep on them."
Then get fucking housing for the homeless. Problem solved. They'll sleep in their nice warm homes instead of on the benches.

Yeah, that's VERY often the bigger obstacle than the cost of travel itself - the cost of taking the time off work.
since moving here ive noticed europeans have no concept of how few americans ever leave USA. every american tourist youve met is of an economic crust that is vastly unobtainable to the other like. 85% generously. no matter what you have believed i can guarantee this. even getting to canada isnt really a possibility and the mexico-US border is highly controlled and militarized.
to put it into perspective. a ~2 hour flight from london to warsaw is like. 30 to 45 USD?
and a 2 hour flight from one US city to another would be about 130 USD
it was very cheap to fly here. i make over 100k USD now and i dont know if ill ever be able to afford leaving. if that gives you an idea of how prohibitive travel is here. i havent even touched on how the US has Zero guaranteed holidays by the govt. many people here go years without ever having an entire week off of work
this has had a like. massive impact on American Brain and they dont even know it because travel isnt even a consideration economically. they dont even know how much more vacation time european countries have guaranteed

Between the price of gas and the price of flights, many Americans can't afford to travel all that far WITHIN the US. I don't know a lot of Northern Californians who have never been to SoCal, but I know plenty who have never been to the East Coast.
Think about how big US states are vs. European countries. If a person in Los Angeles can't get to New Orleans, are you seriously surprised they can't get to Europe? But also, if they CAN get to New Orleans, how similar is that to someone staying within the EU when they travel?
On the other hand, I have traveled a bit at the grace of those with more resources than I have personally, and have yet to stay anywhere in the US midwest at all.
I've been to Ireland and the UK, but not the US Midwest. Go figure.
The people I know who have traveled the most have done it at their employers' expense for work, and only get to explore outside the scope of their job here and there in bits. But at least that results in them building up a bunch of Frequent Flier Miles, that they can use on vacations later.
People often overestimate how much "luxurious" vacations will ultimately cost, and underestimate how much "rustic/cheap" vacations will cost. For the middle class, more may be in reach than folks realize because they just didn't look.
But for those who can barely pay rent? The point is moot. And that's a LOT of Americans.

Clickbait headline:
"Exclusive Poll: America Warms to Mass Deportations Nearly 2/3rds of Americans said illegal immigration is a real crisis, not a politically driven media narrative."
Really? "Americans"? How did you take that sample? Is it remotely representative of the 300+ millions living here?
You know what? I think illegal immigration is a crisis, too. Because we shouldn't be keeping all those people fucking undocumented. Why are we making it so hard for refugees and migrant workers to come here? That's a fucking crisis. The fact that the GOP would rather put children in cages than let the brown people live here legally IS a FUCKING CRISIS.
But that doesn't mean I'm "warming to mass deportations".
I don't trust your "exclusive poll", Mr. Clickbait.

Tbh the problem with ship wars is that everyone tries to find a moral high ground to prove their ship is superior when actually shipping should be about making two characters kiss like a kid playing with barbie dolls

Earlier this month, my husband lost his job. Unemployment had made changes to their program, resulting in a massive glitch that resulted in no one receiving unemployment assistance. We've been doing alright, but today we have $62, and we won't have any money until May 1st.
I have several shop listings available for purchase, digital downloads included, and many start at $0 with the option to Pay What You Want. Commissions are open as well, but I think some of y'all are well aware of that by now.
I do accept donations as well, but I would much rather sell my work. If you opt for donating, here are several options, not including the option to donate on ko-fi.
If you choose to use the PayPal option, mark it as a gift. Otherwise, it will require I mail you what it assumes you're paying for.
We'll be mostly alright after May 1st. All my sales and commissions have gone towards my ko-fi goal thus far. But we need fuel and food, and we have a bill coming out soon. As for exactly how much we need right now, $187 for the bill, $25 should be enough to cover fuel for the month, and groceries I'm gonna guess $100 should get us the bare basic essentials for a few days.
If you can't help financially, I kindly request you share my shop and commission information on whatever social media you use. I'm on only tumblr.

i'm 10 minutes into watching star trek ii: the wrath of khan
& bones got kirk some reading glasses for his birthday kirk is like 50 years old or whatever & i was like "that's kind of a boring gift"
but spock gave kirk a real paper book so i was just realizing spock probably told bones he's getting kirk a book, bones realized kirk's goddamn midlife crisis won't allow him to buy himself a pair of reading glasses already at the age of like 50, so he gave him glasses just so he could actually enjoy the gift spock got for him
spock, mr logical emotionless vulcan, got kirk a really sweet sentimental gift but one that he'd probably just leave on a shelf if bones hadn't gotten the boring practical gift cuz it's a SET. THEY COMPLETE EACH OTHER.

It's hard out there. Parenting is expensive and time-consuming, and exhausting even for those who DO have the requisite resources. Exhausted able-bodied parents look at me and say shit like, "It must be nice. You can afford to be disabled because you don't have children."
Honey, no. I can't afford children because I'm disabled. I wanted children, so, so much. At no point in my life did it ever seem like a reasonable possibility that I could raise children well, financially at first, and then physically, so I never did. And that shit still hurts.
But so does my body, so I guess it's for the best.
Now stop and think about the people who ARE both disabled and parents, and wonder what that shit is like, because that's a fair few of my friends. They, at least, have legit reasons to envy me.

25 for sure
Another 14 I honestly can't remember if I've tried
I'm not into FPS or War Strategy games, and military porn and sci-fi dystopias are active turn-offs, so unless it has really gorgeous art and/or an interesting plot, I will only have tried it because it was in front of me anyway and someone handed me a controller - which is a lot of games, honestly, as I've been a gamer for over 30 years now.
There's easily several times this many video games not listed that I HAVE played. I wonder how they decided what's on this list...
