I appreciate that in Hades 2 your main driving force (or at least mine) assuming you have played the prior game is to save the broken family you grew to love and brought together. While Chronos is typically portrayed as a cackling evil tech billionaire, his rule was referred to as the Golden age or an age of prosperity, peace, and life.

One of my favourite lines from Nemesis is when she states that maybe Chronos’ rise to power is what the gods truly deserve. I think the personification of retribution outright showing doubts about the task that they have personally decided to undergo is very telling about the entire messy interplay of divine trickery typical of immortal beings.

I enjoy the fact that while you are given an easy to root for and almost orthodox objective for an action adventure game, it’s subsidised by a lot of flavour text coming from other characters or about previous events that really re-contextualise the ongoing conflict without anyone being an author stand in telling you explicitly who is right and wrong.

I am overcome with the typical desire to be loved by the Greek personification of an intangible concept

What if Icarus and Melinoe are doomed to be unrequited love that’s not really unrequited. Supergiant has the opportunity to do something evil like not allowing a romantic conclusion to their relationship but giving Icarus special dialogue in the instance that Melinoe does develop intimate relationships with different characters. Like ahaha wow Meli I see you were able to find solace in another’s arms haha wow that’s great haha so happy for you wow hahaha

Thinking about how it was not up to Melinoe to save Icarus, but it was he himself who had the power to do so. How he fled from Melinoe and when they see each other again, Melinoe held no bitterness or resentment. Instead she is elated to see him with his own pair of wings that he fashioned himself. It’s a relationship filled with regrets and tragedy but no anger and spite. Just a goddess and a shade who look towards the future and eventually found each other again.
