I will forever be annoyed that they gave us this heart wrenching conversation between Jonathan and Joyce and then… nothing changes. Jonathan is still parentified. Jonathan continues to blame himself for Will’s struggles because he feels like he should’ve been there even though that isn’t his responsibility. Joyce's "over-protective" attitude over Will lessens at the expense of Jonathan in s3 and s4. She gets to move on a little bit to pursue something else, but Jonathan never gets to move on.
