Do you have any advice for making homebrew spells an appropriate power level? I have a really cool idea I'd like to develop but I have no idea what spell level it should be and what exactly its effects should be
The best place to start tbh is to look at similar spells and figure out where it fits within them
Some things to think about with homebrewing spells:
Components - if it's a really good spell, effects a lot of people, or doesn't require concentration generally you'll need to think about Verbal or cost-based Material components, as these help put limits on it. Material obviously limits based on cost, but Verbal components are generally easy to counteract
Does it require concentration? This is especially a good limit to put on things that have long lasting effects on a group of people, or something where you're taking hold over someone
Range - generally I think the better the spell is for the level, the more danger a caster has to put themself in. For instance Bestow Curse can be a really powerful spell that changes the entire battle, but it's range it touch
Spell attack or DC - this one really depends on the effect the spell causes. Spell attack is more like a weapon attack, whereas spells that use DC tend to have a more general effect. The damage of spells that use spell attack also tends to be higher, because if they miss they do no damage at all
Damage - this one I personally tend to find the easiest, because you can ascertain from spells of a similar level what an appropriate amount of damage would be.
Damage dice - this an be chosen based on what is appropriate to the effect of the spell. For instance, Cloud of Daggers uses multiple d4 because there's multiple knives slashing and opponent whereas Spiritual Weapon (at a base level) uses 1d8 because it's a single ethereal weapon attack
What effect would this have in game/on the battle field? Spells that gain more allies/last longer/alter the layout of the fight tend to need more limits place on them. This is also the point to think about, does this spell have the potential to get annoying for a reasonable DM or players
Is there a reasonable way to counteract the spell? This is very important in my opinion, because the ability DnD offers to find creative ways to counteract spells encourages player creativity. It also offers a way for players to be less frustrated if the spell is cast on them, as there's still scope for them to do something about it
Hopefully this helps! I'm sure my wonderful followers will also have more suggestions

Episode 1: Beeples reference
In DnD related updates, I am SO hype for the new season of Oxventure
They've been doing such cool one-shots lately, so you know this seasons' going to be a banger
I'm maybe planning on making a bingo card for it (which absolutely would include 'surprise appearance of The Beeples')

For clarification: it's not just DnD that disappeared during that month, idk what progress I even made towards my research - the only answer I have for what I did was 'teaching'
Anyway sometimes a month or two just doesn't exist for you when you look back on it
I need to organise my next DnD sessions 😭

1: if you were asked to reboot dnd, what classes would you make sure were available from the start? Are there any of the main 5e classes that you feel aren't necessary to still capture the "feel" of dnd?
2: have you tried other games in the PbtA system like monster of the week or blades in the dark?
3: do you have a favorite or lucky dice set?
Wow this question is really hard (I'm not super sure if i get your meaning of 'available from the start'? sorry) I think all of the main 5e classes are pretty solid archetypes - although I might personally tweak Paladin to have less of an emphasis on gods and more on swearing an oath to a cause/having some kind of duty (not precluding that being a holy quest though, i just feel like the whole 'crusader' trope is why a lot of people aren't interested in the class)
(and before people ask I actually really like the ranger class and prefer giving artificer 'additional content' status
2. Don't think I've tried any PbtA systems? But a bunch of my friends do have plans to play Thirsty Sword Lesbians
3. Absolutely! I have 2 dice sets that were given to me by friends, and those are automatically my lucky dice sets. I also have a cheese dice set that I reserve for doing stupid shit

Ive returned!
DND Grampa had taken an extended break to get his and the more mysterious DNDGrandmas health back to shipshape
And now a new story sets sail! We have 27players in our little online guild! And DND Grampa has more vigor to take it on then ever! At him nearing 70 we were understanding if things slowed down and torches made to pass the game along were made but Hes sunk his teeth into having so many players!
Currently we are 4 parties of 5 and 1 of 7!
Only 5 humans/varient humans in the guild!(wizard,ranger,Cleric,Paladin,Paladin)
3 tieflings out to prove themselves!( 2sorcerers and warlock)
A pack of 4 kobold/kobold hybrid players! A druid. A rogue, a wizard, a fighter
Twin khenra( jackal folk)
A singular gnome Artificer !
A solo Satyr Paladin!
A Luxodon monk! (Elephant folk)
A Changling Bard!
A leonin Bloodhunter! (Lion/(with dm discretion Big Cat, folk)
An Aasimar/moonelf hybrid(my boi)( Soulknife
A firbolg Barbarian
A Dwarven Cleric
A kenku gunslinger
2 halflings a cleric and a gunslinger
A grung rogue
A drow sorcerer
The long awaited return of the wolf anon/DnD Grampa saga!!!!

Elf TV: exclusively 300 season-long soap operas
Dwarf TV: How It's Mined followed by a 4½ hr documentary about salt
Gnome TV: those sensory videos for cats where bugs and mice and birds crawl around on the screen. they really like this
Orc TV: Mythbusters and Top Gear reruns
Halfling TV: the most incredible impassioned storytelling you've ever witnessed always neatly contained in 2 seasons max
Fairy TV: imagine Impractical Jokers except theyre capable of stealing people's faces . this is the only show that fairies have

Coming back to this post after a little time away from it and honestly
The amount of people turning this post into "yes but the DM also has to..."
That's not the point! It's not the point of this post - how many discussions do we already have about what DMs should do.
Players also have to take some responsibility for making the table, story, and game work. You also participate in the game and shape the story.
If you're making the DM do ALL of the work you're probably helping that DM along to DM burnout and you won't have a game for very long
Honestly the biggest thing that in my experience makes DnD or any ttrpg run smoothly is buy-in
Players have to buy-in to the story otherwise it won't work
And by this I don't mean be railroaded by the DM I mean like,
When one of my players switches characters and I introduce them to the party by them just happening to be nearby, I know my players will find a reason to talk to the new PC cause it's important. If there's a noise outside they'll investigate (albeit cautiously) cause that's the point of the noise outside
You have to meet the DM at least halfway and Want to engage with the world

I also explained DnD to my therapist the other day
I cannot believe I put a Critical Role example in the document for my 1 year PhD review as a placeholder and that's gonna be what makes it in
