Just because you're friends with someone, doesn't mean you have to defend them in EVERY situation or ignore it when they do something that hurts you; you should should always tell them when something is wrong. I know a few friends who have done that to me before and it made me a little upset because they decided not to talk to me. I remember months ago when I was at school I did something that bothered one of my ex friends (I didn't stop being their friend just because of this) and instead of telling me I did something wrong, she had her other friend tell me and it made me so angry when I thought about it.
Literally if your friends give you a problem, or they're just in the wrong you're allowed to say something.. If they get angry that you aren't defending them then that's not your problem you can't control how they feel.
