After a week of battling a nasty cold/flu I'm almost back to being myself. Everything I had planned last weekend for my time off training wise was thrown out and replaced with laying on the couch, miserable while being comforted by my loyal pooch. I'm starting to realize that in my older years I need to be more preventive when it comes to getting sick. I'll definitely be looking into what I can add to my diet to improve my immune system and be more careful with the little things ( make sure the hair in dry when leaving the pool in the middle of winter ). I've always had a fascination with sport climbing and bouldering. I've been drawn to the physical aspects of the sport have always been blown away by the big stars in the sport. Although not ideal location wise I've decided to add sport climbing to the list of outdoor activities I do. Fortunately we have a couple of awesome facilities in town. Collicut has a bouldering section and a couple of awesome climbing walls. Plus @trailheadclimbingandfitness is a deadly facility as well. Me and a buddy will be going to trailhead on Monday from 7 to 9 to take the belay course and plan on doing a weekly visit to the climbing gym with goal of hopefully doing some simple pitch climbing in the Summer in the mountains. If anyone is interested in joining us for the belay course you're more than welcome. 7:00pm at Trailhead this Monday. As someone who has dealt with depression and anxiety in the past I can say the lifestyle that I have adopted has helped me through my tough times in more ways than one. Racing and training has taught me discipline, focus and the courage to face anything. It's helped teach me how to fuel my body better, to get better rest, to avoid stress when I can and to be mindful about how I feel as a whole. Never sacrificing my mental and physical health for other things. I learned to reach down and help my fellow humans out of the muck and mud that life can throw at us as well. I've become stronger, wiser and I'm learning to be more patient. I'll always be thankful for this sport, this lifestyle that I now live and what I gained from it up till now. And what I will gain in the future.
