Also I haven't painted on canvas in ages and I dislike it. I vastly prefer painting on a smooth surface like panel.
#i mean i also hate painting with watercolors on the rough textured watercolor papers too#its much harder to get the paint to do what i want - especially on the smaller scale#obviously i need to use a medium to mix with the paint to make them more workable but i havent found a good one yet for acrylics#and on panel i rarely need to#i bought a lot of heavy body acrylics from liquitex but honestly genuinely i prefer their soft body acrylics#i think golden brsnd even heavy body paints are probably better than liquitex's but the issue ive had is i cant fucking open the lids if i#dont keept everything super clean before putting the lid back on. and I'm a messy artist ok. but my hands are sensitive and those hexagonal#or whatever shape they are. theyre difficult and painful and liquitex are easy to open so rhey win.#but i definitely prefer a more fluid paint i dont need dimensional texture in my painting.#so now i have to slowly....buy more paint...

I think it turned out nice :)
Now just have to print another copy of the lines with labels for my mom on the watercolor paper, and figure out how to portion out the paints.....
(the beach umbrella's planted location is uphill btw. even if you're not supposed to sit on the dunes. Otherwise the umbrella's presence in the art makes no sense)

Some progress! Ft two sketches for working out tones, colors, and background. The dragon and rider are relaxing on their weyr ledge in the nice weather, some other mountains in the range are in the background. Also between the first post and now I sealed my initial sketch with clear gesso mixed with burnt sienna for a tint.

Got inspired to sketch out something to paint, so here's the sketch on canvas.
I based it on the drawing I did of a dragon crouched with their rider standing by their feet, and the painted sketch of a dragon's head and neck curved around to look at something mixed together. And inspired by the way the 3d form of the dragons as animals suddenly clicked for my brain recently ^^
And closeup of the rider now that I neatened that up ^.^

Sketching some kitties from photos :)
Top left is a stray black cat in the sun, below him is another stray cat, a tabby I call Alice. Below that is my sister's cat Piper being goofy ^_^
Top right is my first cat, Ella (male) who was a gorgeous classic tabby with no brown tones to his fur at all, below him is my current ginger boi Edison, and at the lower right is another of steph's Piper 馃槉
#sketching#cats#cat art#drawing#pencil drawing#pencil sketch#sketchbook#its so interesting how diverse 'black mackerel tabby' can be btw like the difference between Alice and Piper is wild#pipes has such dark stripes and so many of them that areas are almost black and then has brownish and tan areas#whereas alice is a very grey-brown with much fainter stripes except on her legs#ella being a classic tabby would of course have very different patterning but i always thought it was cool how cool toned his fur was#most black tabbies have a lot of brown tones to varying amounts but ella was grey#but he wasnt a grey tabby bc his stripes were Very dark and bold#and greys have much lighter stripes overall#also he had this very distinct blaze like a horse lol#piper has socks like ella did while alice does not#meanwhile ginger edison has less distinct stripes that break up into spots at times but he has a dark ruddy dorsal band!#and can look like sand or wood toned or golden or red depending on lighting hah#the black cat was super rusted toned and glowed in the sunlight#i love them all#i have more planned to sketch
