Barack Obama Message To 2020 Graduates
Barack Obama Message To 2020 Graduates Obama delivered a virtual graduation speech for 27,000 students of historically black colleges on Saturday, a stirring message of optimism for graduates entering the most unstable workforce since the Great Depression. He was the comforter-in-chief, delivering an address that served as a warm blanket and clarion call for the 2020 class of HBCUs to embrace the challenge of influencing a world that seems at the moment to not have a place for them. "These aren’t normal times,” Obama said. “You’re being asked to find your way in a world in the middle of a devastating pandemic and a terrible recession. The timing is not ideal. And let’s be honest — a disease like this just spotlights the underlying inequalities and extra burdens that black communities have historically had to deal with in this country.” “What is new is that so much of your generation has woken up to the fact that the status quo needs fixing; that the old ways of doing things don’t work; and that it doesn’t matter how much money you make if everyone around you is hungry and sick; that our society and democracy only works when we think not just about ourselves, but about each other,” Obama said. The comedian/actor Kevin Hart hosted the two-hour graduation that aired on the YouTube and Twitter channels of JP Morgan Chase, a sponsor of the event. Leaders and celebrities from various industries — music, film, business, finance, politics, etc. — contributed video messages. The movie producer Will Packer (“Ride Along,” “Girls Trip”), a Florida A&M graduate, told the viewers: “You have the relationships, the skill set and the network. Don’t let any situation hold you back.” Some dreams may be deferred. More than 30 million workers have filed for unemployment since the pandemic began, and many of the jobs some students had hoped to land this summer no longer exist. There are also fears among black educators, parents and students that some black colleges that are already struggling financially could close permanently as a result of the pandemic. According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, more than 6,000 fewer students attended the 101 HBCUs during the 2018-19 school year than the previous year. The most recent total of 291,767 students was the lowest since 2001.

Stephen A. Smith Verified Colin Kaepernick doesn’t want to play - Reaction To Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick’s Bait & Switch With NFL Sparks Twitter War Between Stephen A. Smith and Eric Reid
Who’s zooming who?
Colin Kaepernick’s highly hyped “tryout” event for NFL scouts caused football fanatics to go apeshit yesterday.
“Our biggest thing with everything today was to make sure we had transparency in what went on,” the Nike spokesperson said. “We weren’t getting that elsewhere, so we came out here.”
According to the Associated Press, at least 50 media members scrambled to the Riverdale to cover his workout. And only eight of the original 25 team reps showed up to the new location, including Philadelphia Eagles vice president of football operations Andrew Berry.
Scouts from the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins were also reportedly in the place to be.
The exiled quarterback has not been signed by any team since he opted out of his contract with the 49ers in March 2017 to become a free agent. He made headlines during the 2016 season for kneeling during the National Anthem before games to protest systematic racism and police brutality of blacks.
“I’ve been ready for three years, I’ve been denied for three years,” Kaepernick told reporters following a 40-minute workout. “We all know why I came out here: to show you today, in front of everybody, we have nothing to hide. So we’re waiting for the 32 owners, the 32 teams, Roger Goodell, all of them, to stop running. Stop running from the truth, stop running from the people.”
Sports Twitter – if that’s a thing, ala Black Twitter – exploded after what I will diplomatically refer to as … a media spectacle.
And as can be expected, ESPN’s beloved commentator Stephen A. Smith got into the fray offering his two cents about the day’s bizarre events.
Needless to say, he didn’t STANDWITHKAP.
According to Smith: “This man wanted a chance. Twenty-five teams show up in Georgia at the Atlanta Falcons practice facility … And what does Colin Kaepernick do?” Smith said, in part. “Not Tuesday, when he found out about it. Not Wednesday, not Thursday, not Friday, Saturday, three hours before the workout, because of some issue with a liability waiver, Colin Kaepernick wants to change the venue. Colin Kaepernick wants his own receivers. Colin Kaepernick wants to video things himself. Colin Kaepernick wants the media … He don’t want to play. He wants to be a martyr.”
Carolina Panthers player Eric Reid, who played with Kaepernick in San Francisco and filed a grievance against the league for allegedly shutting them out of the league for the protests, took umbrage to Smith’s comments, sparking a dialogue about who was tap dancing for the NFL.
When news broke last week of Kaepernick’s tryout, Reid was skeptical and said it seemed like a “PR stunt.”
“It’s disingenuous,” Reid said during a locker room interview on Tuesday. “They want the appearance of giving Colin a chance, but they give him two hours’ notice and tell it has to be on a Saturday when they know decision-makers are traveling. So is this real? We’ll see.”
Reid must’ve been reading the tea leaves because here we are today.
Lots of press. Lots of chatter. Lots of scuttlebutt.
Any decisions?
Either way, all eyes are on the NFL. And that means a big win for its advertising sales.
Was it much ado about nothing as far as Kaepernick’s original cause?

West Indian American Labor Day Parade September 2nd, 2019
The route starts at Grand Army Plaza, goes south on Flatbush Avenue, east on Empire Boulevard, south on Nostrand Avenue, ending at Midwood Street.. The West Indian Day Parade officially kicks off at noon and will proceed west along Eastern Parkway from Ralph Avenue to Grand Army Plaza. The NYPD remains on high alert as the festival takes place. One woman visiting from Trinidad and Tobago came to visit, saying everything seems to be calmer this year. "I feel very safe, and I usually don't travel through New York City," Wendy McCullough said. She said that she is glad to know there's an officer in every direction she looks. Along the route, cement barriers, sanitation trucks filled with sand and 13 secure entry points will be stationed. Weapons and alcohol will not be permitted at the parade. Large bags and backpacks will also not be allowed. Despite being decriminalized, police say pot is still illegal, so smoking in public is not suggested.

When the Queen of The Hotties meets The Queen you know a good time will ensue.Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj gifted fans an Instagram Live session to end all Instagram Live Sessions after the "Cash Sh*t" rapper asked to join Nicki's Live session over the weekend. The MCs talked about everything from collaborating to hanging out in Los Angeles to Meg's upcoming album — they even gassed each other up during a mid-Live twerk session."We are gagging right now. We are dead," Meg told Nicki after she hopped on the Live, praising the "Megatron" rapper who she said she grew up listening to. "Yes, we love you. Oh my God! Since motherfu**in' 2008 when I was in eighth grade and I could listen to rap music on my own." Meg later added, "Stop playing with Nicki Minaj like she ain’t the motherfu**in’ GOAT!""Thank you. I appreciate it so much," Nicki responded.Meg also discussed her next album, saying she just got back in the studio and would love to work with Nicki. "We need the Queen," she said. The "Wobble Up" rapper then shared some advice to Meg. "Don’t overthink it and don’t beat yourself up," Nicki said. "All the times when I be working on albums, I be stressing myself the f**k out and then when I just kind of let my hair down, so to speak, for like freestyles and stuff, that’s what they love."The two ended their Live session making plans to meet up in Los Angeles. "Don’t run from me, friend," Meg, said. Nicki then responded, "I really, really appreciate you [...] That means a lot to me, all the nice and all the sweet things that you ever said. It means the world to me."**WARNING: VIDEO CONTAINS EXPLICIT LANGUAGE **

U.S. National Soccer Team wins FIFA World Cup 2019 2-0 victory over the...
U.S. Wins World Cup and Becomes a Champion for Its Time Few sports teams are asked to carry as much meaning on their shoulders as the women of U.S. soccer. On Sunday, they lived up to the challenge with a 2-0 victory over the Netherlands. ---------------------------------------------------------------- U.S. Women's Soccer Team Wins World Cup Title For A 4th Time The U.S. women's soccer team is still the world's best after dominating the Netherlands in the Women's World Cup final and winning 2-0. Throughout the tournament, the U.S. brushed aside criticism, complaints of arrogance and calls for the team to tone down their goal celebrations. All the team did was win. All seven World Cup games, in fact.
In the first half, the U.S. created more chances than the Netherlands. The Americans attacked and attacked, but the Dutch defense and, particularly, the goalkeeping of Sari van Veenendaal, who blocked four shots, kept the U.S. from scoring in an opening half for the first time this tournament.
Sunday's sell-out crowd at Stade de Lyon, near Lyon, France, decked out in red, white and blue — and orange — and cheered and cheered and sweated it out with nervous fans watching around the world. Before the final, neither team had trailed or lost a game in this tournament. Both squads had each permitted only a total of three goals. The Dutch got better as the tournament progressed — keeping their opponents from scoring in each of the knockout games before the final.
The U.S. made one change at halftime, replacing Kelley O'Hara with Ali Krieger. O'Hara knocked heads with Lieke Martens late in the first half. The collisions continued in the second half. Becky Sauerbrunn was knocked to the turf, blood trickling down her face. She returned with black tape wrapped across her forehead.
The breakthrough for the U.S. came in the 61st minute. As forward Alex Morgan streaked in front of the Dutch goal, defender Stefanie van der Gragt tagged Morgan's shoulder with her right boot. A penalty kick was awarded after video review. Megan Rapinoe coolly slapped the ball into the back of the net. It was her third converted penalty and sixth goal of the tournament. Rapinoe won the Golden Ball (MVP) and Golden Boot (top goal scorer).
The U.S. scoring continued in the 69th minute thanks to midfielder Rose Lavelle. She dribbled down the field and, with a beautiful left-footed strike at the top of the penalty area, zipped the ball low and to the right. 2-0. It was all the scoring the U.S. would need. The United States rolled through the opening round with statement wins over Thailand (13-0), Chile (3-0) and Sweden (2-0). Brushing aside criticism about perceived arrogance and excessive goal celebrations, the U.S. then powered through the heart of European soccer with victories over Spain (2-1), France (2-1) and England (2-1) to make it to the final against the reigning European champions.
It was the fifth time the United States Women's National Team played a World Cup final (there have been only eight tournaments). The U.S. is the first team to reach three consecutive finals and joins Germany as a repeat champion (2003 and 2007). With Sunday's win, the U.S. has a record four Women's World Cup trophies.
On a day that should have been all about the World Cup, the United States had to share the soccer spotlight. "It's ridiculous," said Rapinoe, that there are not one but two men's soccer championships scheduled on the same day: the Copa América and CONCACAF Gold Cup. "That's a terrible idea to put everything on the same day in every way. This is the World Cup final. This is 'cancel everything day,' " Rapinoe said. Soccer's international governing organization, FIFA, said having all three tournament finals on the same day will draw attention to the sport.
The U.S. team will return home to adoring crowds and fans and a new fight. In March, the U.S. Women's National Team sued U.S. Soccer for gender discrimination. In the lawsuit, the team claims that the soccer federation pays members of the women's team far less than similarly situated members of the men's team — a men's team that has had nowhere near the success of the women on the international stage. Both sides agreed to mediation after the tournament. After the final whistle, the crowd in Lyon chanted, "Equal Pay!"
Record audiences have tuned in for this tournament both in the United States and around the world. Will this exciting tournament translate into continued growth of the women's game? "Your hope is [that] back in the U.S., more kids want to go out and play this great sport," said U.S. head coach Jill Ellis. "I mean, that's ultimately the building block you build on. My hope is that more people get on board financially. You know, sponsors, they see the value in it. They see the marketing marketability of it, and then more little kids want to go and kick a ball around."
Now the U.S. returns home as champions again.
