Tektōn #3 - Bees and Flies from D-Fuse on Vimeo.
A collaboration between Mike Faulkner and Paul Mumford.
Tektōn #3 is the latest in a series of experimentations with the processing of analogue imagery into architectural light structures. Originally developed in D-Fuse & Scanner's "Light Turned Down" performances, Mike Faulkner and Paul Mumford have been continuing the process while working with L'Usine, H17 and Swayzak.. The latest in the study is a one minute film produced with the German artist Hauschka and features densely packed formations of light.

Captive in the White House by The Luminists from ur sullivision on Vimeo.
The Luminists Charles Cohen - audio Eric Schefter - video (1991)
The source materials for Captive In The White House were created during a residency at The Experimental Television Center, over the course of one day, during OPERATION DESERT SHIELD (1991). Captive was a real-time reaction to the American television media's preoccupation with war, sports, and the "cult" of the president.
Thanks to: Hank Rudolf, Sherry Miller Hocking and all the ETC folks. Isabelle Sigal, Naval Cassidy, Eric Marano and American Montage. Produced at the Experimental Television Center which is (was) supported in part by: the New York State Council on the Arts, the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts, the NEA and by private contributions

In C++ at Metasis 2016 from Greg White on Vimeo.
In C++ installed during Metasis, the 2016 Goldsmiths MA/MFA Computational Arts final exhibition. In C++ is a software interpretation of Terry Riley's landmark minimalist piece 'In C' (1964) for installation and performance, written in the C++ programming language. The software driving this installation creates an ensemble of virtual performers that make decisions in realtime about what notes to play and when, according to Riley's score and performance directions. Each performer is aware of the others, and together they work to create a harmonious performance of In C. This installed version of In C++ uses an ensemble of Raspberry Pi computers, amp circuits, speakers, and laser-cut wood panels.

Video Feedback Fractal Device: LEAF 2022 Performance from Dave Blair Camera & Editing on Vimeo.
The Light Herder / Sound Scraper performance at the Lafayette Electronic Arts Festival (LEAF) 2022 - leafcolorado.org/light-herder-sound-scraper.
Thank you David Fodel for inviting me to come to Lafayette, Colorado and perform at this year’s event. And thank you Matt Pass for the great, weird audio accompanying the visuals.
This is a short look at the full, 40 minute presentation, filmed by Karla Kracht (who I asked at the last minute to get some shots for me). Thanks Karla!

LEAF2021 Documentation: David Fodel from david fodel on Vimeo.
For 2021 the Lafayette Electronic Arts Festival commissioned a dozen works from as many artists. LEAF2021 was an outdoor ambient media event and held on May 7-10 from dusk to midnight. There was no fixed performance schedule or location for viewing.
About my work for LEAF 2021: Pattern Language VII, Watercolor, and Berlin S-Bahn all explore pattern, repetition and movement from different sources of inspiration – natural, architectural, and technological – investigating commonalities in their unique syntax. “For LEAF 2021 the opportunity to see these artworks at the scale the wall allows is essentially what animated the entire festival. Each of the works I am showing explores some formal aspect of that quality of scale – dynamic movement across the horizontal plane, color, value, repetition and variation, and the interrelatedness of sound and image. It’s very exciting to get the chance to see all of the participating artists’ response to the wall”.

::vtol:: phason from ::vtol:: on Vimeo.
vtol.cc/filter/works/phason
Phason is an audio object using rotating, perforated discs to create cyclical triggers (sequencer). The controlling agent in this piece is the light which is passing from the console panel through fibre-optic light guides. Passing through the perforation, light hits the photo sensors, triggering the synthesizer.
The object may be used as an instrument or an autonomous sound installation. To interact with it, one may use a built-in flashlight on a flexible holder, or any other small light sources (for example, a phone flashlight).
The idea of the object is predicated to a large extent on Soviet experiments with optical sound, and also the automatic music boxes and caskets at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries, when disks were frequently used to encode sound and rhythms.

DevSlashDelay from david fodel on Vimeo.
This is a little project I built over the holidays... thanks to my family for supporting my knob-twiddling habit! The box is hand-built from Mexican Bocote wood, and finished in hand-buffed pure Tung oil. The top is aluminum, the knobs are Zebrawood. The light-up buttons are capacitive-touch momentary switches. Fancy locking Neutrik audio jacks and screw-in Switchcraft power connection. Based around the PT2399 bucket-brigade style IC chip. Circuit board is available from Synthrotek.
