In truth, Kenshin would have known and killed Sasuke 😂😂 but such a well written fic!
How about a friend-zoned Sasuke comforting MC when she is worried about Kenshin? His ninja heart is bleeding but also feels to need to keep an eye on MC’s well-being cause, hmm, it’s Kenshin. Thank you!!
Aw man I’m not really good at angst but here we go
(also I tweaked the prompt a little bit)
He watches as you kiss him, lips on lips, smile against smile. Your hands snake up his chest, to his neck, where you slip your fingers into his hair. He has his hand on your waist, pulling you close. You let out a small chuckle against his mouth. He deepens the kiss.
Sasuke watches you kiss the person he’s sworn his life to.
You are the one that pulls away first, perhaps out of embarrassment that your close friend is witnessing as you make out with his boss. Kenshin is less bashful and more reluctant to let you go, but he quickly regains control of himself as if nothing happened.
“Welcome home, you two,” you say, a smile on your face. Both men return the smile, but only one of them means it. The three of you walk inside the castle.
Sasuke thought, just a few moments before arriving back at Kasugayama with Kenshin and the troops, that seeing your face would alleviate the burden of war on his shoulders. Now, following behind you and Kenshin as the two of you hold hands while making your way in, he discovers that it’s a double-edged sword. A realization.
You’re only smiling because Kenshin is there.
He watches as you watch him with a look in your eyes that spells L-O-V-E out loud. He is not doing anything in particular except drinking, a favorite pastime of his, and only barely listening to one of Shingen’s slightly sexual stories. You, too, are barely listening, because when the crowd guffaws with laughter at the punchline, your lips curl into a soft smile at the sight of him, his eyes betraying a hint of amusement.
Sasuke watches as you watch the person he’s sworn his life to like there’s nobody else in the room.
When your head turns around to look at him, he feels his heart jump in his chest—has he been caught staring?—but instead of a reprimand or an awkward response, you smile at him, warm and bright like a summer’s day.
“Enjoying the party, Sasuke?”
Sasuke. How nice it feels to hear his name on your lips. He rarely hears it nowadays, never often when Kenshin is around. Those syllables wrap around your tongue easier, he supposes, fighting to suppress the green monster growing in his underbelly. Kenshin, Kenshin, Kenshin. His evil mind recalls the times he’s heard you say that name.
“Were you injured? Was Kenshin injured?”
“You know Kenshin. He’s odd, but he’s trying his best.”
“Thank you for looking after Kenshin.”
And then his evil mind whispers questions that makes him wonder of the times he hasn’t heard you say that name. Alone with his lord, in your room or his. Moaned out. Chanted again and again, like a prayer. Screamed, perhaps. Feeling hot with jealousy, Sasuke counts down from five to one and takes a shot of sake. After the five-four-three-two-one, he shall think of anything except you and Kenshin.
Yukimura bursts out a single laugh at the display, shooting his best friend an amused grin.
“Hey, you’re chugging drinks now, huh? Careful not to turn into Kenshin.”
That name again. Sasuke lets out an impassive ‘yeah’, and Yukimura refills his cup. They exchange a toast, and at the next second, Sasuke already has alcohol burning down his throat. That’s right. People don’t even know that he’s off tonight, if they discount drinking as one of the clues. He’s always straight-faced, stoic, a little bit stiff-upper-lip most of the time. They probably don’t notice how his gaze falls back to you every once in a while, as if his eyes are always searching for you.
There you are, looking as beautiful as always. Next to Kenshin. Pouring him a cup.
Heterochromatic eyes meet his gaze and Sasuke freezes in his seat. He nods at his lord, maintaining another microsecond of eye contact before looking somewhere else, pretending to be interested in what the lesser vassals are talking about. He feels Kenshin’s side glance burning the back of his head—is it fueled by suspicion or knowing? Sasuke finds dread in both.
Perhaps tonight is one of his experiments. Yes. It’s commonly accepted that people drink to forget, so him knocking back cups of sake earlier is part of a study about this common knowledge. He’s his own test subject. The determining variable is whether he’ll forget you in the morning.
Intoxicated, Sasuke lays on his futon and stares up at the blurred ceiling, his glasses forgotten on the floor. In between the deafening silence is the heartbeat in his ears, fast and constant. Ba-thump, ba-thump. He’s drunk, but sober enough to understand that he’s not falling asleep anytime soon with this tempo in his chest.
“—and most importantly, don’t fall in love.”
Was it really him who said that? It was, wasn’t it, part of his ‘instructions’ he gave to you when you first find yourself trapped in the Sengoku. Stay out of trouble, lay low for three months, and he’ll get you out of this place—that’s basically the deal. And he said that, just because love only it harder for you to leave.
Funny, now that neither of you are leaving, he’s the one that should’ve taken his own advice.
He closes his eyes and wonders if he’ll ever move on.

Also, as much as I enjoyed sharing the transparent cards with everyone, I’m afraid that it’s probably the last time I can get them? The print shop just contacted me that they won’t be able to reprint them again because of some technical issues they’re currently dealing with. I’m hoping it’ll still be possible in the future but as of now, if people would want reprints, I’d probably stick to printing them on normal card paper now ;w; That said, I ordered a set of prints with the aces this time~ and I’m waiting for it to arrive soon! I think it’ll be pretty much close to what it’ll look like printed on normal card paper ^^;;;;
