What is age regression? Is it a voluntary thing or is it something that just happens to some people? I like childhood things/acting like I'm younger than I am, does that make me an age regressor?
Hello Sugar, thank you for your message!
Age regression is a temporary (or for some, long-term) state of reverting to the behaviors, thoughts, emotions, etc. of a child or teen! It can be voluntary as a form of therapy or fun, or it can be involuntary as a reaction to trauma or stress. Some people that regress for trauma reasons can become stuck in the memories and behaviors of their childhood self until their fear or panic has left them.
Liking childhood things and acting younger can be considered age regression, or it could just be something you do for fun. If you are playing in this way without reverting to a younger mindset, then that is referred to as age dreaming instead. Dreaming does not involve a full state of regression, and is more like a fun game of pretend that people can do to cope with stress, or to have fun and connect with their childhood self!
I myself cannot tell you whether you are a regressor or not, as that is a label that is your choice to wear. However if either of these definitions feel fitting to you, it may be something to look into!
