It’s springtime and the dogwood trees are blooming! But these flowers are not what they appear to be to the casual viewer!

while a dogwood flower may appear to have four large white (or pink) “petals” with some bits in the middle, the actual flowers of a dogwood tree are tiny, and they grow in a cluster at the center of what looks like the dogwood “flower”. The big white things that look like petals are actually a type of modified leaf called a bract. the whole group of flowers + bracts is called an inflorescence.

centered in the above photo is a single dogwood flower! very cute! each of these little flowers will produce a fruit called a drupe, with a single seed inside. they are gross for humans, but birds are big fans of them

flowering dogwoods are very popular ornamental trees, so next time you see one this spring, take a closer look and appreciate the flowers that are hiding within the showy bracts! the moral of this post is that I think more people should be into tiny flowers

Kind of hilarious to me how poorly the title "Mob Psycho 100" localized to English-speaking areas. To someone whose first language is English, it scans as:

Mob (Yakuza, Mafia)

Psycho (violent person with "crazy" behaviors)

Thus: a particularly violent member of organized crime.

But in Japanese it scans as:

Mob (background characters in crowd scenes in manga or anime)

Psycho (short for psychic)

Thus: a psychic who looks/acts like someone you'd never pick out of a crowd scene in a comic.

Imagine being Akane Kurashiki, 12 years old, and you get visions of the future and it's of you ruining people's lives to save yourself. Would that fuck you up. Would you feel loved by yourself. Would you look at your future self, 9 years later, hurting these people because she loves you so much, and be able to forgive yourself for it? And of course it's not JUST you who's trying to save yourself--she's just setting up the pieces to save you, knowing that you're going through nearly unimaginable horrors in two realities at once, because she is you. She's the reason you can see both past and present, and she's the only one who can understand, and she will do anything to save you. To save herself.

The moment in 999 when Santa says you’re wrong. We’re here for one other thing. We’re here to save someone? When Snake with a revolver clip of bullets in his body laughs and says “Pathetic! Begging for your life” to the person who murdered his little sister. When he drags him down in an incinerator to die with him and says maybe now someday his sister can forgive him?? When 7 says “We can all do the math. I’ll say it, since no one else will. There’s only one solution that cuts just one person out.” When Zero says “No, you’re wrong. I’m the one who has lost,” over the PA? When Junpei says he feels like half his heart is gone after watching Snake die in the incinerator, and he makes it to Akane just in time for her to vanish, and he goes insane with grief and loses the other half? When Clover says, “I don’t understand. Aren’t you one of us? Why are you doing this?” When Snake says, “It doesn’t matter if he’s Zero though, I am quite certain he would never hurt us.” When Clover goes crazy with grief and starts taking an axe to people? When you reach out and give her hope that you got from Santa, who got it from Snake himself originally, who had first intended it as a gift for Clover 9 years in the past, and she doesn’t? When Akane chooses to thank Junpei for the time she got as a last act while vanishing in his arms because he failed? When 7 runs around with no memories, trying to protect everyone else on instinct alone? When he does remember, and cares so much about one little girl he’s willing to break a life sentence and more’s worth of laws for this little chance to set it right? When Junpei tries to run into an active incinerator to save someone already dead? When he is willing to get shot for Lotus? When he almost gets shot because he’s so angry at her killer laughing about Clover’s death? When he’s staying in a sinking ship crying over the missing body of someone he loved? When Junpei realizes everything and it snaps into place why all of this has happened, and he’s not mad or torn or resentful for a fucking millisecond over what’s been done to him, he’s just determined beyond the laws of the universe and his own oncoming death itself to save a little girl about to burn to death 9 years ago?

Once you see the real me, will we still be friends?
