Just found out winx is getting a reboot via tiktok. This is ideal marketing to both 20-somethings who grew up with it and all the y2k-obsessed little kids.
Maybe I'll watch ep 1 for nostalgia's sake if the US distribution isn't a dumpster fire like when I was a kid.
Seriously, all the girls in my class had backpacks and other series merch. It was everywhere and you couldn't escape it in 2008 Moscow. The show literally aired right when elementary schoolers would be getting home. Our teachers had to break up groups huddled over sticker photo albums bc we'd be so focused on bartering and trading for faves' stickers in between classes that we'd miss bells lol. Also, we were playing the PC and console games from the series and exchanging tips.
In US tho? There was like that one 4Kids dub and iirc then a more reasonable cable release. But I do wonder how much reputational damage the show suffered from being handled by a company that was infamous for localization that Americanized names and BS like "jelly donuts" (actually onigiri). Maybe it'd have been a larger phenomenon here if its first release wasn't by that butcher shop.
Ah well, maybe second time is the charm.

Started watching parasyte the grey bc loved the manga in high school.
Only just finished ep 1 and it's a good time. Yeah, sure, it's a proper Invasion of Body Snatchers horror and we literally start off with someone having the nastiest EDM festival of their lives. But the realism-adjacent horror also got me. Honestly, I found the scene of an angry guy trying to off a random supermarket employee for telling him to price-tag properly to be one of the scariest parts of the episode.
And in general, this feels like a decent midpoint between no-budget horror and over-reliance on obvious special effects. All the actors playing the possessed just portrayed these walking voids, basically. No expressions, overly stiff gait, just really staring into your soul. Aside from the budget considerations, it made the scenes where the parasites show themselves more impactful imo.

The cashier lady and the old man at my local corner store are too sweet. They periodically give me freebie vegetarian snacks that they're contemplating stocking but aren't 100% sure of yet. We're talking things like 1 kilo bags of artificially flavored "fried chicken" rice cakes here. Eating them rn and 100/10.
And in general, they really expanded their vegetarian selection once I started frequenting. At one point, they kept stocking the (actually very convincing) vegan char siu buns even though I'm pretty sure I was the only buyer lol.
They're just too considerate T-T And considering that life has me giving a lot of scrobbles to Blackpink's Kill This Love rn, this small stuff really means a ton.

Have I ever previously admitted to being a Yana Toboso stan in middle school? No? Seems relevant for now.
Tbh I don't remember anything about the series so I would be lost with the new season.
But just know that somewhere, a bunch of early 2010's anime club kids are about to be incredibly obnoxious. Seriously, my middle school had so many kids with Sebastian bookbags. Our parents did not supervise our internet use lol.

Someone needs to check in on detective conan fans. No reason, not related to shipping or anything retroactively becoming very awkward!
Man, I stopped watching in mid 2010's but this is the craziest thing I have ever been spoiled on via tiktok fyp.

Ok fine I'll watch a Joker movie because of Lady Gaga and the musical elements. Still haven't seen the first one and tbh I think that Joker is an overdone Batman villain, but this trailer pandered to me enough.
So what, madness of the two? Given that I think I've only seen the Broadway-worthy sets in the shots of Joker and Harley, maybe they're hallucinating them. Wonder how bizarre they'll get.
Also, I hope they have an actual set designer and not CGI bs for the musical sets. Even if trying to make them feel illusionary, I'd be happier if we had physical stages in a musical movie.
Hope my local arthouse theater does a screening bc they've previously done blockbusters like Barbie. I don't want to deal with superhero fans at the local multiplex.

Finally started watching the new Abbott season bc it's always my comfort TV. Janine cussing had me chortling with laughter. She's just such a squeaky clean character and Quinta Brunson's performance is just so good natured that it always takes me out lol. Also, Baltimore and Orioles mentioned!!!
Also, the commentary about trying to "optimize" education is amazing. Like, the district officials showing up with iPads but not updated textbooks feels like it sums up some things I've seen in my little brother's schooling. And like, kids need to be allowed to do things outside the textbooks. Literally the best time I had in AP English was when my teacher decided to let us read Wilde without bothering with the schedule or permission slips.

A buddy who knows of my obsession with sci-fi horror and musicals sent me a link to Alien Stage and man. Indie artists just keep getting more impressive.
Anyway, I think I'm most interested in Mizi's arc just because it's really going places. But in general, the studio's channel is going to be one of my few notifications-enabled subscriptions. The pain of binge watching and not knowing when next episode drops T-T

I don't normally do country but obsessed with cowboy Carter.
Like, particularly with Daughter, which feels like a Daddy Lessons spiritual successor. In hindsight, makes sense to follow up her first country track like this. A "take care of your mama and sister" song, then a country murder ballad with dad hanging over it.
If you listen to them back to back and consider whether it's the same narrator, it's pretty heartbreaking. Not your dad's daughter, except when angry. They mess ya up, dear mom and dad, and it follows you into adulthood.

Seeing that little label giving Taemin a proper rollout actually made me grin. Finally some proper A-lister treatment. Although given the timing, I initially thought this was an April Fool's until a friend told me they were actually serious.
Like, is this a fumble of the century for SM ent or what lol.

Also, healthy cooking can be done without much effort. Here's a congee I make if I'm tired after work. Ime it's also very digestible if you have stomach flu or something.
Ingredients:
1) about a quarter a block of tofu in my case or any protein will do. My preferred is firm tofu.
2) 1/2 cup dry rice (jasmine but anything long grain is fine here)
3) around 1-1.5 cup water, you basically want to cover rice and have a bit of a layer of water as a baseline.
4) some mixed frozen vegetables. Literally anything vaguely green works here imo, don't overthink it.
5) 2 cubes fake or real chicken bouillon
6) a bit of salt
I prefer more solid and that's what 1 cup of water will get you. More water = more stew-like.
Instructions:
You just dump everything into a pot, set the flame to low, and set a timer for about 40 minutes. Stir every once in a while but you can otherwise just rest while it's cooking. Toppings vary but basically, if you're concerned about some leftovers approaching end of their prime, this works to use them.
It'll smell like chicken bouillon once ready and the vegetables will be relatively tender. In my lower water level case, there won't be much water left and rice mixture will be soft but not fully clumped together.
It's a lot healthier to go for a daily walk than to sign up for a gym membership you won't be using because you hate that kind of exercise. It's a lot healthier to eat a frozen meal than to skip a meal because you were too tired to cook something healthy. It's a lot healthier to take a quick shower than to procrastinate an elaborate routine for days. Don't aim so high that you won't be hitting anything!

Oh look, Stellar Blade demo is out for real and not about to get yanked from everyone's devices lol. Anyway, played it and this dragged me back to when I was a teenager in 2010's. Which is nice bc seriously, the state of spectacle action games these days is dire.
We've got decently responsive combat here with ye old perfect dodges and parries. Things felt a little too reliant on former initially, but then started actually mixing them up a bit. Ah well, this is chapter 1 and you gotta ease people in. Not reinventing the wheel yet, but it's fun.
By the way, make sure to disable screen shake and motion blur in the settings if you get motion sick!
Haven't seen enough exploration yet to say anything here. There are minor jump scares here lol, be careful with dark abandoned buildings.
The soundtrack is dynamic and does a decent job of hinting when you should pay attention. It's nice.
The story is irrelevant bc let's be real. This is a spectacle action game and it's not a priority lol. Anyway, something something fight some monsters for humanity. It's cliche and yes, the nice mentor perishes in the first five minutes.
Side note but those enemy designs are amazing. Like, new sleep paralysis demons dropped lol.
The whole thing did feel a bit dragged back by devs' obsession with butt shots and setting them up. It was distracting and felt so try-hard. Like, I'm pretty sure it'd sell based on the strong "ps3 game with modern graphics" energy alone.
In short: good first console effort for a studio that had a shooting galley game for phones as its biggest title, but feels like I've played this before. And aside from the streetwear outfit, I haven't seen one fit for the lead that deserves rights. Given that I spend hours in character creators and refuse to use gear if it looks ugly on my character, this is actually a deal-breaker for me.

Wow, guess Ratio continues to be a character so unloveable that it's compelling. I'm still playing through the new story patch but poor Aventurine. Well, a seasoned card shark like him can get out of this mess (and he's slated to be a playable character so he's got some plot armor).

Feels like reading comics at bedtime is the easiest way to get some practice in. Like, even if I'm tired/feeling lazy on a workday, pulling out my phone and scrolling webtoons in Spanish feels like zero effort. Even if I worked 11 hours or more. But that's still reading daily and having to parse context.
Anyway, so that's how I ended up following a bunch of campus romances like Secrets of Beauty/True Beauty and Found You/I See You(? forgot EN title). The characters keep talking about attending classes, going out for lunch, and their schedules, so it's helpful for daily vocab. And the grammar is fairly basic, but there's a ton of past/future tense and conjugation. In short, it's basically like watching Friends for English practice.
So yeah, I'm now at the tier where I kept seeing tiktoks of people raving about Trash of Count's Family and decided to just read it in Spanish bc I'm too used to Naver's international app and they got the Spanish license, but not the English license. All the medieval fantasy language is difficult but I can otherwise follow it.
This is like when I was nine and finally understood enough English to start reading Percy Jackson.
