"buck and tommy are thriving"
says Lou Ferrigno Jr, the actor playing Tommy Kinard, Buck's current love interest/boyfriend
🚒let's explore what might lead him to say that💪
A) "buck and tommy are thriving" is the truth as far as he is aware; no one has suggested that either one of them is in any way unhappy or in distress regarding the other at the moment of him speaking or at the moment of the show as it is being shot. additionally, saying this brings him positive reactions and engagement from fans which is good for boosting his social media, possibly might also be helpful career-wise, which he is excited/pleased about.
B) "buck and tommy are thriving" 100% absolutely confirms that for however long the show runs, buck and tommy will be a couple and lou knows this definitively at this moment
C) "buck and tommy are thriving" is an ironic statement/a lie/a joke, and lou knows this and is saying it either for malicious/self-serving purposes or because he, as an adult human in showbiz, is a moron who is unaware of the possible backlash consequences of doing so or because he is covertly signalling thusly that he is a buddie shipper
i mean, i know which one of these i find most likely?

🔥🔥 revolutionary unpopular opinions 911 spec hot hot so very scalding🔥🔥
what i think might plausibly happen on the show in the near future:
buck and tommy continue dating beyond the initial tentative "ready for something" or
buck and tommy decide to be casual about seeing each other or
buck and tommy decide friendship is what works for them at the moment or
either buck or tommy or both mess up in a way that has the other go: "yeah, no, bye (for now)"
after which buck meets and dates/sleeps with other people of various genders
what i DON'T think is going to happen in the near future:
buddie
presidential election discussion
bucktommy scene where they express utter commitment to building a future together stat
an adult character is allowed to stick to the decision to keep their shitty parents out of their lives
buck sleeps his way through west hollywood to prove to himself he is a real bisexual
bobby decides never to step inside a church again
buck decides never to have sex again until he is with The One

tease tidbit tuesday
tagged by @tiltingheartand, thank you! from an almost finished Tommy POV
They go surfing. Well, Evan surfs, and Tommy just kind of chills from the beach and gets a nice tan. It’s fun to watch Evan show off. He’s still baby deer nervous sometimes with Tommy, like he’s relearning how to walk, or like Tommy is the proctor of a Good Bisexual test, and Evan’s trying a little too hard to pass. But on the water it all fades away as all the overthinking he does melts off him, riding down the line.
He comes out of the water goofy on endorphins after a few waves and collapses cold and wet from the ocean on Tommy, who is warm and dry on his towel, smothering him with a kiss.
“You sure you don’t want a lesson? I’ve been told I’m a very capable teacher,” Evan says, voice dripping suggestively. “Worked my way up and down a few coastlines, you know.”
Tommy likes this side of Evan when Evan lets it out. Maybe they need to go to the beach more, even if he doesn’t really care about getting in the water. “Nah, I’d be shark bait out there.”
Evan rolls his eyes and zips open his wetsuit, peeling it off so the arms hang loose at his hips. “Chances of a shark attack are less than one in three million. You have a higher chance of getting struck by lightning.”
“Should I be worried about you then?” One of the first things Tommy learned about Evan before he really knew him was that the kid was kind of a disaster magnet. What’s the probability of being bitten by a shark when you’ve already been struck by lightning?
“You don’t need to worry about me, not out there anyway,” Evan says with a gentle tilt of his head toward the ocean. He’s delusional. Tommy likes him so much. “Kind of feel like you might have jinxed a second ride out today though. Wanna get lunch instead?”
They wind up at the good kind of greasy seaside bar. Tommy gets the fish tacos that came recommended, but Evan is making love to an oyster po’ boy with his mouth.
“You know,” Evan says, licking at the mayo clinging to the corner of his lips, “I totally fell for the idea of being a pick up artist when I heard about it in high school. Always tried finding new ways to get with girls. I read up on aphrodisiacs once.”
“Are you trying to seduce me, Evan Buckley?” Tommy asks wryly, staring at the half-chewed fried oyster hanging out of his sandwich.
“Nah, turns out it’s all bullshit. Found that out after I took my prom date to this seafood place and ordered us a dozen raw in the half shell thinking maybe I’d get lucky. I looked up at her after slurping down three of them, and you should’ve seen the look on her face. I thought she was gonna puke.”
Tommy snorts the sip of water he was taking back out onto the bar.
“The only natural aphrodisiac I can think of that isn’t like”—Evan lifts his own beer—“or a party drug is ambergris, which is kind of like whale shit, but not really. It’s illegal in the states though.”
“Evan, I’m eating,” Tommy says, but he’s laughing.
Evan, oblivious, continues, “They say it smells like shit on its own too, but something about it has them putting it in perfumes. I can’t remember what. Can you imagine if I showed up caked in whale shit for a date though?”
Tommy looks at him and Evan stares back, smile half-knowing and all hopeful, waiting for anything Tommy is willing to give him.
Just for that, Tommy doesn’t call bullshit. He says, “You think you’re hilarious,” and Evan shrugs, happily taking another bite of his po’ boy.

Another unpopular opinion but I don’t think buck and eddie are ,coparenting’ chris. While yes buck plays an important and big role in chris life, I don’t think its abnormal for a best friend to help out withe the others kid. Especially when the kids mother died. And wanting buck to be chris legal gurdian in case of eddies death, isn’t that basically the same as a godfather? Just later? I mean I love and enjoy their scenes together but I don’t see him as christophers second dad, more like an uncle
It’s a gray area for me. I’m happy to read it that way. He is unusually involved for a non-relative. But parenting also involves a level of financial responsibility that we have not seen. It just does. And we haven’t seen that, nor do I expect we will. I do believe that emotionally, Buck fulfills a somewhat parental role for Christopher, but I don’t think Buck sees it that way, and probably Eddie doesn’t either. Eddie is very capable as a single father, and I do think it’s important to recognize that. Everybody needs help from time to time, and Buck is happy to be a prominent part of his support network, but I do feel this is a close-but-no-cigar situation. Personally. Still, like I said I’m happy to read it in fanfiction!
As for godfather vs guardian, it was explained to me when I was young that a godparent is generally in the same church as the family and meant to serve a role in the child(ren)’s religious upbringing, but may or may not also be a legal guardian. At least traditionally. It’s probably used less formally now.
And everybody had a lot to say to me wrt my buck-has-money post, so let me say for the record that yes! I do believe that he also has a savings for Chris in this headcanon! 😭😂 that post was framed through a conversation with his parents, who presumably don’t know Christopher at all, and would only care about Jee-Yun.

tease tidbit tuesday
tagged by @perfectlysunny02 and thanks for the tag!! this is from “every moment that you rise”, the third & final part of as you surface from the dark.
“So like, hypothetically —”
“Buck,” Bobby says, and Buck can imagine the exasperation on his face even if he can’t see it from this angle. He could turn his head, if he wanted, see it for himself, but — no. Besides, it’s not like these veggies don’t actually need chopping.
“Hypothetically,” he repeats, and then stalls out. “So say — say this guy, uh, let’s call him James?” No response from Bobby, but Buck knows better than to think that means he’s buying it. “So James has had this friend, Henrik, for more than five years now, they’re super close. Best friends, even, like, James always thought that best friends was just a thing people said until he met Henrik.”
“Buck,” Bobby says, a lot softer this time, and Buck ignores it again.
“So anyway, right, James starts dating this guy Matthew, okay, and Matthew is like … the perfect guy in a lot of ways — he’s sweet, he’s gorgeous, he’s funny but in a really dry way sometimes — except that four months into their relationship, James realizes he’s been in love with Henrik for like three years.” Done with the potatoes; onto the carrots. Deep, even breaths; this is not the time to panic, not with a very sharp knife in his hand. “But it turns out Matthew’s okay with that, somehow, so the two of them stay together.”
A pause. “And we’re sure Matthew isn’t, say, a serial killer or something?” “Oh, come on, Cap,” Buck says, “you never know somebody’s a serial killer until it’s too late.”

If you go down to Hammond you’ll never come back
rated g // 1339 words
“Oh, uh.” Eddie shrugs, stretches. “You know. Buck. It’s kind of… who he’s become, who he’s proud of being. I guess, I mean- we haven’t talked about it specifically. But yeah, I think… it’s like the turnouts, you put them on, feel good about who you are in them. And it’s the name he’s used ever since he came here, it’s- neat. Like, a clean break from when he… was young, and alone.” He shrugs again, smiles a little. “His friends call him Buck.”
Tommy’s thumb slips in the condensation on his glass. “Should I-”
“No.” Eddie’s voice is very soft. “I think… for most of his life only Maddie ever said ‘Evan’ and meant ‘I’m happy to see you.’ I think… it’s good, that he has that with you.”
Tommy just- tries to remember how to breathe normally for a second. “I am,” he says. “Happy to see him.” A funny, shaky little joy in his stomach every single time he looks up and sees Evan Buckley.

do you ever think about how maybe tommy is a bit self-conscious about being older or getting older, like yeah, there's gray hair here and there, but also the skin around his eyes is wrinklier than it used to be and when did that happen? and like gray chest hair in places?
and then he looks at buck, who is just... ✨evan✨
but buck is just so very insanely into him. and also finds all those things extremely sexy. senses a bit of that insecurity. goes on a rant about agatha christie and her second husband, who was 14 years younger, and when people sneered at her about it she said: "the older i get the more interesting he finds me" 'cause he was an archeologist you know so
"evan, are you calling me a relic?!"
"hmm, a sexy one tho."
