Friendly reminder to everyone that biblically accurate angels also include angels that look like men. Not all angels appear as terrifying multi eyed thingies. “Be not afraid” is not said only when they appear as terrifying multi eyed thingies. You would also be freaked out if a beautiful man appeared to you whilst you were alone in your house praying to God.

Blessed Michael Sopocko
November 1,1888-February 15, 1975
Feast Day: February 15
Patronage: Bialystok
Blessed Michael Sopocko was a Polish priest best known as St. Faustina’s spiritual director and promoter of the message of Divine Mercy. In 1933, he became Sister Faustina’s confessor and commissioned the Divine Mercy image to be painted. In 1947 he formed the Congregation of Sisters of the Merciful Jesus. In 1959 the Divine Mercy message was suppressed by the Vatican due to incorrect translations of the Diary, causing Fr. Sopocko much suffering. After his death, the ban was eventually reversed by Pope John Paul II in 1979

Reblogging for yesterday’s Gospel reading.
Jesus, on multiple occasions: I’m going to die very horribly, but then I will rise from the dead three days later.
The women disciples, three days after Jesus’ death: The tomb was empty, and angels appeared and said Jesus is risen.

Saint Agnes Le Thi Thanh
1781-1841
Feast Day: November 24
Saint Agnes Le Thi Thanh was the only non-clergy Vietnamese of the 117 Vietnamese martyrs canonized by Pope St. John Paul II in 1988. She was a married Catholic, mother of 6, who helped hide priests to avoid persecution during Emperor Minh Mang’s rule. In a raid to capture priests, she was arrested, savagely beaten, and tortured both physically and psychologically. Her aggressors once even put poisonous snakes in her clothes. St. Agnes stayed calm crediting Our Lady’s help and the snakes did not bite her. Her family begged her to relent and renounce her faith, but she refused and died of her wounds in prison.

Saint Andrew Dung-Lac
1795-1839
Feastday: November 24
Saint Andrew Dung-Lac, a Catholic priest and missionary in Vietnam, was one of the 117 martyrs who gave their life for the faith in the 19th century.  In 1832, Emperor Minh-Mang banned all foreign missionaries and tried to wipe out Christianity. Churches were destroyed, instructions forbidden, villages and families were obliterated. The tortures of these Christians is considered the worst in Church history. St Andrew was tortured, then beheaded in 1839 for the offense of being a Catholic priest.

The Hebrew word "Satan" means "prosecutor". I think this is one of those things most church-goers know. I've known it for most of my life.
But apparently, that's not the end of the story. Today I learned that "Paraclete", the Greek word for the Holy Ghost, literally means "defense attorney".

I love stories of pagan converts to Christianity during the Dark Ages because most often these warrior kings and chieftains would listen to the story of Christ's crucifixion and without missing a beat they'd be like "If I was there with my boys we would've saved him."
Hes a little confused but hes got the spirit

Blessed Miguel Agustin Pro
1891 - 1927
Feast Day: November 23
José Ramón Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez, also known as Blessed Miguel Pro was a Mexican Jesuit Catholic priest. Falsely accused in the bombing attempt on a former Mexican president, Miguel became a wanted man. Betrayed to the police, he was sentenced to death without the benefit of any legal process. On the day of his execution, Fr. Pro forgave his executioners, prayed, bravely refused the blindfold and died proclaiming, "Viva Cristo Rey", "Long live Christ the King!" Known for his religious piety and innocence, he was beatified by Pope John Paul II as a Catholic martyr on September 25, 1988.

Our Lady of LaVang
The Saint of Vietnam
Feast Day: November 22
The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to a small group of persecuted Catholics living their faith in a jungle in Vietnam. They suffered privations, dangers, and illnesses. They recited the rosary daily and on one evening, the Blessed Mother appeared to them telling them that she fully understood their hardships. She told them, among other things, to gather the leaves from a plant that grew by them and boil their water with them to purify it. She also providently told them “From this day on prayers said on this spot will be heard and answered.” That was in 1798 and pilgrims have had answered prayers since.
