When the Minutes Drag
I'm staying in tonight; haunting empty rooms, pacing floors and contemplating tenacious decisions.
I think of what we've ruined and how the pain of seeing our ashes escapes you since you've never made a home in anything other than flesh.
And I won't bring it up, I refuse to strike up an idle conversation, debating the absence of my attention and my chosen silence; if only for my benefit.

riddle my fancy
for those beaded eyes
are of a teddy bear i lost
lifetimes ago
that innocent smile
is of a boy i once knew
now left blinded
by the eclipse
we watched the faltering rays
as they gazed upon us too
yet now we have lost
all that kept us young

One day, one rhyme- Day 3755
Amity’s not fond of the sun,
It’s harsh and bright and burns;
She much prefers the gentle moon
Whose calm light nightly turns.
She loves to gaze up at its face,
Gentle amongst the stars;
She could not gaze so at the sun,
Its harsh UV light scars.
She takes long walks in the cool night,
Her peace and thoughts are deep-
So we will leave her with the moon,
While we go off to sleep.

My wings are broken
but they will heal
maybe they will never be perfect as before.
Flying clumsily
but still I will try to reach my resting place and peace.

An undercover barista
Needs no orders, they say.
They leave the lattes on your bench
And then they slip away.

oh, how the time drags
stubborn clay
clinging
drawing out the pain,
a deep ochre wash
which spreads
like a watercolored masterpiece
.
Memories run,
a brush caressing paper
chronicling grief, heartache,
and healing
in unequal measure

All the world looks to you, a picture of gentle grace and wisdom,
to save at least three lives today—your words profound, your touch, a balm.
The alarm blithely rings. Exhausted, you rise. Fear chokes your heart.

Belief
I walked the city streets in the fading light, faithless, as men holding flagrant signs asked if I needed to pray. I didn't have the heart to tell them I was a lost cause, long forgotten were the buzzing hymns and solemn rhymes.

Cosmically brought together,
Impossible to doubt, to overlook,
Especially as we become more
And more
Connected.
But for what purpose?
Both desperate to be understood somewhere,
By someone somewhere,
And from day one
I have seen you.
As clearly as you have seen me.
But something larger,
More than a single star,
Has been guiding us along.
Set aside the signs that this was fate,
We are growing ever closer,
Ever more tangled.
Two days ago, I told you I was going to be sick,
How I was in the midst of a break down -
Almost immediately you said,
"I'm ill, I'm mentally a mess, the emotions have purged themselves out of me."
Coincidence.
But I will tell you what isn't -
Last night.
How did we both experience the same
Discomfort?
Thrashing sleep for two hours at a time,
Vivid dreams, reduced to no more than a flash,
Awaking drenched in sweat, hair a mess,
Slipping back into another two hour vision.
You say this was the first time this has happened,
For me, this is a normal occurrence.
What tells me we were written
Into constellations far beyond our perception -
Is how I dreamt of you
As you dreamt of me,
Both in stormy weather,
Both intimately touching feet.

The Best Fish in the Sea
Fate can’t be forced
Progress can’t be rushed
The past can’t be changed
Our love could be second to none
My head spins like a globe
Just to catch a glimpse of you
My mind filled to the brim
With thoughts of you
But my world doesn’t revolve around you
I’m determined to create a bond of souls
A relationship, a forever
That’s equal parts healthy and happy
A balance of real love while maintaining self love
I can tell that you want the same
Which is why I have a gut feeling
That you’re different from the rest
Because you actually practice everything you preach
And constantly put work into
Everything you’re passionate about
Winning at life, but we’re people
Not trophies
Unconventional
Breaking down stereotypes and barriers
Another day, another dollar, another heartbreak
But keeping it pushing and moving

the sea knows sorrow
the winds too tired to blow
the surface of the sea like an oversized
mirror
countless shades of grey introduce
themselves during the calmest catwalk
i have ever watched
as time goes by my mood matches
- this i notice - with the waves
too downcast to dance
oh yes: the sea knows sorrow
and coz my heart is heavy
i right now do not have the means
to make her feel better
all i can do is stay
and keep her company

"There is no escaping the written."
Then, i will plead with the writer to change the written
He surely knows how, for me, his thoughts are unbidden
And how this heart, for him, has been swidden
And how his heavenly soul, for my soul, is the only provision
So please, i beg you to have this story rewritten
A bit differently, more happily, more beautifully, and more eternally.

Idiomas
Duolingo asks me, in Spanish,
to translate the phrase,
"how many languages do you speak?"
Cuantas idiomas tu hablas?
And in that moment, I wonder.
How many languages does Love count as?
It cannot be one.
Surely.
The love between my mother and I
does not directly translate to the love I have
for my friends,
and that love does not exactly correlate
to the love I have for my siblings not by blood
but by choice,
and then there's the love I hold for him.
There are levels to the language;
in the same English,, when I say "I love you",
it does not always mean the same thing.
I will love my mother until the day I forget
the name she gave me;
I will love my friends until my breath
leaves my body, or until they do;
and there are no words to describe his -
bottle the sunlight, the sound of laughter and a kiss,
it's easier to put it that way.
Love as a language goes far too deep
to count it as just one tongue.
So when Duolingo asks me how many languages I speak,
I cannot really give it a straight answer,
There's English, French, Spanish -
the latter two are fragmented attempts at truth;
I would never yet declare myself fluent -
and Love, of course.
So technically it's three,
but in reality it's three plus infinity.

Craft
fingertips finding spine by touch, gliding over gilded words, blessing quartz and cardamom,
crushing ash with mortar and pestle, grinding, mixing blood to make the words flow, crow
feather to shape my thoughts -- fly them to the ears and lips of those sensitive to
this alchemy of song
