#i call my past selves by the gender they were at the time#feels the best to me#when i was a guy i fought so hard for people to see me as a guy and prove i was a guy and all that#internal and external pressure of saying im a guy please believe me#i worked so hard for it#so even tho im not a guy anymore i feel like saying i was never a guy is disrespectful to myself#if little highschool me knew that a future version of him would look bavk and say he was never a guy hed b devastated#so i dont disrespect him like that#before that before any transition being a girl was much more nebulous#sometimes she was a girl but only when it was fun#sometimes she wasnt a girl she was something else#sometimes she didnt think much about it at all and it totally slipped her mind#but it was all centered around girlhood#she was a girl or she was not a girl#like a little satellite moon in an irregular orbit around planet girl#but neither my girl self nor boy self really translated either to Female or Male#i called myself a guy i never thought of myself as a man#it felt weird to say that just like it felt weird to say woman#or grow up into a woman bc at the time i def couldnt say i was a woman#i was a girl sometimes but it didnt necessarily mean i would ever be a Woman#even as a kid i understood that abt myself#and in the end when it comes to being a girl or being a guy#i just got bored#i got frustrated being seen as a girl during my last big Girl moment in eighth grade when i bought a bunch of dresses#i liked the swoosh i didnt like what people would think or say or treat me with that. dresses were just fun#but i was equally uncomfortable and distant when i passed really well in college and nobody knew i wasnt a cis guy unless i told them#people would think or say or act in certain ways around me that i knew they only did bc they thought i was a guy#now people dont know what to think so theyre foreced to receive me as i am not as a preconceived gender checklist its nice#in the tags guys polls#clover

Absolutely love this song. It's not a parody of the og Buggels song we all know and love- it's an evolution of it. There's connective tissue, one similar vocal riff, certain moments that make u go oh yea i know it, but it really does feel like an updated reimagined homage- exactly what the song is all about. It's a sequel to a song written in 1979, grown and reflected in 2011.
#3: Closing Time - Leonard Cohen
Leonard Cohen the man that you are....... for real has anyone written a lyric like him. This song is a euphoric swell of grief. And the way it sounds???? Unmatched. Perfection.

I describe their sound in a metaphor: imagine in the 70s there was a low budget kids show about a family of bears, played by actors in shaggy mascot suits. This show was later franchised into a theme park, which in the ensuing years went bankrupt and was abandoned. Now decades later, you're an urban explorer walking through this dilapidated park, and happen upon a splash mountain- style log ride. The 10 year anniversary of the worst finale of all time just passed, and i started rewatching this show again for the first time since it ended. I was reminded of this song. This song is so tight, so brilliantly worded, so perfectly balanced. If you havent listened since 2014, remind urself.
