Hey, hey: Orange you glad it’s not Touhou 3?! Huzzah, it’s time to tackle the 4th game in the series: Lotus Land Story! It’s in this game Touhou slowly began to find its identity. LLS was the first to feature stuff like focusing with shift, the 6 stage + extra stage format, and even being able to death bomb.
I don’t have much to say about Orange tbh. She’s basically the precursor to Meiling (and possibly Chen?) and is defeated before she can even perform her final attack lol. Thankfully, this game has more character dialogue and facial portraits so it was easier for me to give her some personality compared to most of the PoDD cast. Even as a throwaway stage 1 boss, I still did my best to put love into drawing her :)

This is why I cherish Rika, she's the stage 1 boss but she was the first one who was actually starting any shit and she was ready to toss Reimu into a postgame level with her handmade ghosts
Mima can talk all she wants about the Yin-Yang Orbs but Rika will always be the real antagonist of Touhou 2 to me
the stage 1-3 bosses are the ones you gotta watch out for. like anyone in the latter half of the game has like. Goals. Objectives. Plans And Schemes. most of the time they're not gonna bother chasing after people
but your early bosses? they've got absolutely nothing better to do with their time. they're just wandering around pretty much aimlessly. you're probably not worth kazami yuuka's time and effort but wriggle nightbug is going to fucking get you
