The Tuesday Haunting: Sultan’s Palace - 

When new owner Nina Neivens purchased the property, she thought very little about the “gruesome murders” that had allegedly occurred in the building. In fact, as she told one newscaster, the only strange, unexplainable phenomenon that she ever experienced at 716 Dauphine were that sometimes personal belongings tended to go missing. Keys, it seems, were a particular favorite for the spirits of the apartment building. According to historians and paranormal enthusiasts like James Caskey, there seem to be two main ghosts which haunt the Sultan’s Palace, and it’s unlikely that either one are a result of the nineteenth century murder. The first ghost is that of a Confederate Soldier, who is still haunting the house in his military uniform. The second is the spirit of a woman, who probably lived in the house at some point in time.

This is the Pope Lick Trestle Bridge and it is the home to none other than the Pope Lick Monster. This Monster is sometimes referred to as a Goatman, but witnesses describe it as being part man, part goat and part sheep. Local legends say that this creature hunts for victims using an axe, jumps on passing cars, and lives under this bridge. However, other legends say that this creature is the reincarnated being of a Satanic farmer that sacrificed goats in exchange from being granted mystical powers from the Devil. People outside the area believe that this bridge is no longer in use, but in fact, it is the major railway that enters Louisville, Kentucky. Trespassing on this bridge is very dangerous and even resulted in a death in 2016.

The Middle East has countless stories of unknown entities and cryptids, which have been reported increasingly often by soldiers returning from the conflicts occurring there. Often sceptical, these soldiers find themselves proven wrong time and time again, and perhaps no situation is more terrifying than when their high-tech equipment backs up the unnerving encounters.

A soldier on security detail had one such encounter in a remote area of southern Afghanistan. Along with another member of his squad, he had set up position and was scanning the area for any signs of activity. After a long period of nothing, the two of them were jolted out of their boredom when out of the shadows, only 75 yards from them, an unnaturally tall man appeared. The figure was humanoid, and as they watched, it turned to face them with eyes so bright that they hurt the soldiers’ eyes. What was more, the brightness of the eyes actually caused their night vision goggles to malfunction. The soldier describes the encounter:

The thing turned and looked right at me with eyes so bright my night vision started to burn out (meaning it was so bright it was burning the system, usually done only by really fucking bright shit like the sun). So that freaked me out and I pulled my NVGs (nigh vision equipment) off and those eyes were like neon red blood. Blood red and  bright as the sun. So this freaks me out and I pull my machine gun over and train the thermal optic on to it and those eyes were so hot it started to burn out that optic (same concept as before but with you know heat) but his body was so cold he stood out from the background which is really weird. I slowly loaded it and then the eyes moved like he cocked his head at me and turned and walked off and was gone. I didn’t say a word of this while we were there or to any one in the army since we’ve gotten back.

The encounter would have been unnerving enough on its own, but combined with the proof of both the night vision and thermal optics being overwhelmed by the light and heat being given out by the entity, it takes on a whole new level of inexplicable. Whatever was out there was certainly something strange.

Elizabeth Báthory, the Blood Countess

Countess Elizabeth Báthory de Ecsed (7 August 1560 – 21 August 1614) was a Hungarian noblewoman and a serial killer. She has been labelled by Guinness World Records as the most prolific female murderer.  Báthory and four collaborators were accused of torturing and killing hundreds of young women. The highest number of victims cited during Báthory’s trial was 650.

The stories of her serial murders and brutality are verified by the testimony of more than 300 witnesses and survivors as well as physical evidence and the presence of horribly mutilated dead, dying and imprisoned girls found at the time of her arrest. She is often compared with Vlad III the Impaler of Wallachia.

According to all testimony, Báthory’s initial victims were the adolescent daughters of local peasants, many of whom were lured to castle by offers of well paid work as maidservants in the castle. Abductions were said to have occurred as well. The atrocities described most consistently included severe beatings, burning or mutilation of hands, biting the flesh off the faces, arms and other body parts, freezing or starving to death. The use of needles was also mentioned by the collaborators in court.

According to the testimony of the defendants, Elizabeth Báthory tortured and killed her victims not only at Csejte Castle (her wedding gift from her husband) but also on her properties in Sárvár, Németkeresztúr, Pozsony (today Bratislava), and Vienna, and elsewhere.

She was imprisoned in December 1609 within Csetje Castle, Upper Hungary (now in Slovakia), and held in solitary confinement in a room whose windows were walled up where she remained imprisoned until her death five years later.

Russian Military Base Captures Video of an Invisible Creature?

On March 7th, 2014 at 10:30 p.m., a security camera at a secret Russian military base in Moscow captured this video of a strange, transparent being descending from the sky. The creature lands on the fence and sits there for about half a minute before it gently floats down to the ground inside the base where it suddenly disappears. Seconds later, a second being, globular and white, appears and quickly ascends. It’s unclear if anything else unusual was captured afterwards.

Many have expressed skepticism. The most popular theory seems to suggest the ‘invisible’ creature was merely a spider dangling in front of the camera. As for the second being, it’s also believed it was a bug of some kind. While that’s certainly a possibility, one could argue that the first creature’s seemingly transparent state could be a sign that it was something supernatural/alien.

Personally, I have to agree that these two figures were most likely bugs. The more I watched the video, the more I saw how the ‘invisible’ creature did indeed look like a spider. That’s just my opinion however, and I’m interested to hear yours. Were these beings simply bugs near the camera lens? Or could these have been actual extraterrestrial creatures?

Hart Island

Utilized as New York City’s “potter’s field”, Hart Island is accessible only by prison inmates from Riker’s Island, prison guards, and corpses.  As part of their work duty, prison inmates are shipped to Hart island to bury unknown and unclaimed corpses that have made their way through the system and filtered through to being “unwanted.”  It is unclear exactly how many dead bodies have been interred on the island (some sources put the number over 850,000) and it is widely considered to be one of the largest mass graves in the world.

Hart island has had many uses over the years including a POW camp during the 1860s, a quarantine station for yellow fever, tuberculousis, and other rampant diseases, an asylum for women, and a deliquent camp for young boys.  As with many islands, the objective for this one was either to keep people in or keep people out, an objective they still strive for today.

Often referred to as the “Island of the Dead,” Hart Island is said to be teeming with the restless souls of those buried there, dumped into large trenches and forgotten by much of the world.

Don’t Touch the Black Angel! This Cursed Statue Kills Visitors to Iowa City’s Haunted Oakland Cemetery

At first glance, you might be tempted to think of Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City as nothing more than your average suburban graveyard, but don’t be fooled. Tucked away inside its iron gates sits the Black Angel statue, a winged figure so menacing that anyone who dares to touch it is said to fall victim to one hell of a curse.

The sorrowful, eight-foot-tall statue watches diligently over the Feldevert family plot near the center of the cemetery, and according to the countless legends that surround the grave marker, if you fail to heed the warnings and touch the faded black figure, you will die, no questions asked. The curse is one that has scared late-night thrill-seekers for decades, and while it might seem fitting to affix such a legend to a statue so eerie, the Dark Angel of Iowa City was once a beautiful monument to one woman’s sorrow.

In 1983, a farmer from South Molton, England claimed to have lost over 100 sheep to the creature known as the Beast of Exmoor. All the sheep were killed in the span of 3 months and died to injuries to their throats. After these incidents, the Ministry of Agriculture ordered the Royal Marines to send a number of snipers to the location.
