Wild Butterfly (Jay Halstead x female reader)

Summary:A firefight leaving the truth to come out and things unsaid bottling up while fear and the next steps in life make way in everyone’s life leaving everything else unknown.

Who knew being trapped in middle of a firefight at night,hardly being able to keep up in the fight would secretly turn out to be a small tiny hint of a blessing in disguise.

While gun fire rang out,your ears rang and it was hard to hear anything being pinned behind a wall with your team wanting to a evacuation plan,because there was no way you were all gonna get out any otherway.

“This isn’t fucking real” knox cursed lowering his gun from the vision ahead of everyone as the backup drove right by.

Right as someone yelled stay in cover you felt as knox shoved you back down into the ground as a bullet rammed into the bricks inch’s away from where you would of still been,as you glanced at him you could easily tell he was beyond stressed more then just about the situation at hand.

Everyone knew it was gonna come to a end,you were all running out of ammo.

“We are gonna be black,in less then a minute” Jay slightly raised his voice so we could hear but not enough to draw to much attention.

You had upset everyone when you reached over knox,taking his flashlight and running down the stairs.

“Where are you going” knox yelled out multiple times as he and the others looked over the edge seeing your plan was shinning the light at the humpvy,to alert them where you all were,while hearing mouse radioing in you were shinning them down with a flashlight and to look right,multiple times.

Ammo ran out for everyone on the team as Jay and knox got into a moment.

“She’s gonna make it” knox told everyone though Jay questioned it,questioned you.

“And how do you know that” Jay sassed back at him.

“Because it’s the end of all things” knox spat back,knowing you.knowing you weren’t gonna give up no matter what it was,coming your way even as bullets flew in every direction.

Moments went by before mouse let everyone know what he just was told.

“They saw her,they see us” mouse hollered while everyone started laughing from there nerves being shot.

Everyone at the base was cheering when they were informed that the red platoon was found.

You were known as the little blue butterfly angel,besides you nickname Tagalong,you were naive and innocent.The team had found out you had never been in a relationship over night while they were talking and drinking.You figured that’s why they loved you but it was because you were always the light,if it wasn’t you making jokes in the wrong time it was you doing the right thing no matter what it meant,you saw the best in people even if they sometimes didn’t deserve it.

You had came around the corner of the house near the base,everyone was using as a safe place but you saw knox bent down eye level with the ones you had to tie up as kinda hostages for safety as everyone over there had guns,but this family didn’t.

Knox was seen as the badass who never gave a shit but it seemed different,something did when he took off his helmet after cutting their ties off so they were free as he spoke in their language,telling them all he was truly sorry and to the lady’s child who was unborn.

You were soft…different then the hard outside the others had.The one guy had told knox to let peace be with him as you came around the corner all the way giving him a faint smile.

“When’s the next convoy out of here,I’m gonna make them pay for everything they did to us and to them” Jay walked in seeing Knox’s hand on your shoulder falling off.

“Not like that Jay,your going home they are not gonna let you do another tour with that much ptsd,you would be honorably discharge but you won’t be going home alone” that comment made him have a hint of hope you would be coming home to Chicago as well. “They are discharging mouse because of a felony for what he pulled back there” you tell him as you see the smile fall from his face,before being able to question it your commander ordered you over.

When time had came when Jay was going back to Chicago with mouse,he was gonna tell you bye but found you with Knox curled up on the ground together with his arms around you,talking about once you both got back he was gonna marry you.Jay knew it was best just to leave things at that,he didn’t wanna ruin your chance at happiness though seeing you with someone like Elliot filled him with anger and jealousy.

Sense then years had passed by,one after another slowly.Jay had got a job as a detective for the 21st district in the intelligence an had been working there for years.

While working a case that was leading to bombs being made and sold,Jay couldn’t help but tense up in the car with Hailey.The song that had came on the radio was your song,he wasn’t sure how he still remember that factor.

When Jay was making his way up to the meeting for soldiers who had ptsd or just wanted to talk to others that went through the same thing,he never thought he would see you again,the way your smile brightened his day already even while given the circumstances.

“Jay” you yelled running over to him almost tripping over your own feet hugging him,while he hugged you back chuckling at you.

“Well you sure haven’t changed tagalong” Jay looked down at you while you shoved him,seeing knox hold his hand out to shake it and seeing you tense up a bit.

“Great to see you again man,ptsd acting up?” Knox asked him sense he hadn’t seen Jay ever to one before.

“No I just was cleaning out my place and found some old pictures and couldn’t get some of it out of my head” Jay stated staying focused for his job neither knox or you had knew about.

“Anyways though it’s so great to see your doing well” you smile cheering up seeing a blonde get out and walk over to Jay.

“Hey” Hailey spoke looking over in your direction.”I’m Hailey I’m jays fiancé” she lied for the case knowing it’s the best way to play it while Jay seemed a bit upset but you brushed it off.

“It’s really nice to meet you,I’m y/n but these dorks just call me tagalong but try and I’ll break your finger because I hate it and they know I do and get they still are persistent on it” you smile at her already warming up to Hailey as if you knew her for years.

“How about you come by later,bring your fiancé and some of those pictures” knox suggested while Jay didn’t even take a second to think before agreeing which made you laugh.

While knox had been outside with Jay talking about the past you were in the kitchen cooking while Hailey was talking to you and you almost choked on your tea when she told you her and Jay were cops and they were actually here because they suspected a offender to be knox and they were both undercover.

You couldn’t help but tense you seeing Jay walking in while knox was still drinking looking at pictures.

“You tell her?” Jay asked Hailey while she nodded before looking back at you.

“Look between us,he’s making bombs and selling them on some low scum group,he’s changed from the man I had fell in love with back in iraq but whatever happens you can’t tell him I told you any of this,I mean I want those people safe from something bad happening” you try to tell them while Jay understood because you always stood for the right thing.

“But I’m pregnant” you finish as your said that Jay froze realizing knox was all of your firsts,something he always wanted to he.

“Look I’ll be there for you,you know I will be I’ve always been there and I’ll be here for the baby as if it was my own because I’ve always been in love with you ever sense I met you and never said anything because I saw you falling for knox and I just wanted you to be happy”. Jay told you as he pulled you into a hug with his hand on your belly as he informed Voight.
