I'm not dead! Sorry I've been radio silent for the past week, I had to deal with a family emergency and couldn't really do much haha.
I've been doing little bits of work inside Twine and future planning when I can. Regular work will resume this week!

Devlog (21/04/24)
I wrote 2k words today, putting some rather cryptic information down, and a description of Druso, the man you see through the eyes of in your strange dreams.
The festival scene will have basically four variations, depending on which mentor you're with and whether or not Sam's there.
I'll be doing work to tighten up the writing here so I don't get overwhelmed with the variation, which should make things easier to get done quickly. After that comes a few (some optional) epilogue scenes for the chapter, then it's on to Chapter 3: The Bladeweavers!

I took it easy today, doing a little bit of future writing, but didn't get anything down in-game. I try to do a good amount of planning and future stuff if I don't do anything in Twine, so that way it doesn't feel like I've done nothing.
Other than that, I've been curious about something. Just for fun, I want to know what most people picked when meeting Sam, out of the five options that are there.
I'm interested to see what was picked...

I'm so sorry to sam but my mc is a total sonia clone (he thinks she's the coolest woman ever and wants to be like her in about every way) meaning he absolutely punched the crap out of poor sam (he did feel bad about it though).
To be fair to your MC, she may just be the coolest woman ever (she'd believe it, anyway), and Sam's quick to forgive, even if his nose might not be.

Devlog (18/04/24)
I put about 2k down today all in Twine, continuing Chapter 2.
Mainly some exposition and interactions between Sonia, Callen and Archer (who makes their big return here, lol) before heading to the festival. I'll also be introducing a minor character here, hope you like her!
There's also a little elaboration on the Fallen, Phanol's scorned populace who have bestial features and innate magic, very much unlike the study and ritual-based practices of mages like Archer.
I'm trying to keep big blocks of expository dialogue to a minimum, so it's an interesting challenge to sprinkle things throughout the story while making sure people know what they need to without it feeling like they're reading an encyclopedia.

Devlog (16/04/24)
I got back to proper writing today, doing some future stuff as well as continuing Chapter 2. In all, I probably wrote around 2k words.
I'd like to refine Sam's hangout scenes, and maybe even put some semblance of a real game in there for funsies (optional, of course). I still need to complete the gift route for that part, though I don't expect it'll take too long to implement the variations. I'll put a little announcement out when they're added, though it won't be a big update or anything.

Devlog (15/04/24)
I'm writing this pre-emptively, sort of.
I probably won't get much, if any, writing done today but I have been squashing bugs as people report them.
I think next time I try a quick-fire update like this, I won't make any date promises haha. Giving myself a week to write all that ended up hurting the quality of the game.
Fingers crossed, if you play now, there shouldn't be any major bugs present. This goes for the downloadable Android version, too.

First of all, I love the new update. And I love Sam. I don't think there's a single character you've introduced so far that I haven't liked.
Second of all, with every update, I feel like the coding has to get more complicated, with stat tests and updates and more flavour text. How do you plan your IF? How do you decide where to provide choices and where to not?
Well, thanks for the praise first! I'm glad nobody's come across as grating yet 😅
It's defintely gotten more complicated to consider all the variables I put in. I sprinkle choices throughout the beginning of a chapter to set certain variables that I may or may not call back to later (as in, maybe I'll reference something in one chapter, or I'll call back to it a few chapters later to make it feel more like characters remember you and your actions, you know?)
I try to keep a COG-style 'no more than two choice-less passages without a choice' approach I've seen others mention (except for special cases like scenes where MC isn't present) to keep things interesting for the reader, even if that choice ultimately isn't a very important one.
My flavour text is mainly determined by MC relationship values and their personality stats so in that sense, the scope remains the same because I've always had the same number of variables to consider.
(That will change when I have multiple characters with relationship values interacting with one-another and MC and considering romance values, too, but that's a problem for future conr to cry about.)
What gets the most complicated is figuring out when to include flavour text and which values to use to flesh out MC's personality more (this also applies to giving choices that increase/decrease certain values).
There has been a... minor scoping issue, where Chapter 2 sort of ballooned beyond what I expected for it. The whole thing is about 115k words on its own right now, and I expect the whole chapter will be around 130-140k by the end of it. The childhood chapters are meant to be the shorter ones, but I got carried away!
Future chapters will definitely be shorter or have less variance haha, depending on which one I feel serves the story better.
So, yes. Everything gets more complicated and I have to assume it'll only get worse as I go on! As the game develops, I develop, though, so I think I'll be able to handle it.

Bladeweaver Demo Update (14/04/24)
Update time!

Chapter 2's penultimate section, visiting Sam's home, now has a conclusion! Spend the night talking and playing with Sam or go home right away, get some insight into Sam's father and his past, as well as more context on Callen and Sonia's mysterious Debts...
This update, coming in at juuuust over 25k words, had me sweating a little trying to get it out in time haha. Because of that, there may be bugs and typos that I have missed, so I'd appreciate if they were pointed out.
It's still not entirely complete; there is a route where you show Sam the gift you got (if you brought it with you) that I just couldn't fit in time, so I'll put that in my next update.
I hope you enjoy reading the rest of this part of Chapter 2, and stay tuned in a couple of months for the end of the chapter!
An update to the Android (apk) version will come later, probably tomorrow.

I wrote 5k words today, and the update is ready for Sunday!
I'll spend the rest of today testing and fixing any bugs/typos that are in the beta.
There is still an incomplete route that won't be in this update, but will be added in the next major one. Hope that isn't too disappointing!

Devlog (12/04/24)
I've written about 4k words today, filling out the last scenes of this coming update.
There's one route that I don't feel will be complete for Sunday, so that'll probably be closed off in the final update. It's just one set of activities to do with Sam, but has a high amount of variation depending on the gift you got from your mentor so it'll be added in a later update (again, sorry!)
I'm feeling good about a Sunday release, and hopefully I've been catching bugs as they pop up so you'll have a flawless playthrough haha.

Devlog (8-10/04/24)
Over these few days I've been working steadily on the update, getting about 4k words down. There'll be three major activities to do with Sam, each with a few variations to them, as well as a longer conversation with him afterwards where romances can be started/progressed.
These romance moments will be available in later chapters for every character so for those who want to romance Sam (or anyone else) when he's older, don't fear! The opportunity will be there.
