He had hurt Dean when he left. They had plans and Castiel decided to leave anyway. Castiel tried not to think about that much anymore, didn’t want to think about the choice he’d made 9 years ago. And he hadn’t seen Dean since.
Until now.
Castiel’s eyes popped wide in surprise as his thoughts were pulled forcibly back to reality. He heard him before he saw him. The voice was deeper than it had been when they were 18, but it was unmistakably Dean asking the bartender for a whiskey. Castiel looked over to the end of the bar where the voice came from and nearly dropped the drink in his hand.

"I found us a case."
Dean groans. "I thought we were taking the month off."
"We can take the month if you want," Sam says slowly, "but a bunch of kids are going to suffer if we do."
Dean fixes his brother with a harsh glare. "Okay, fine. Lay it on me."
"So get this. On Christmas Eve for the last two years in Bad Axe, Michigan, kids are mysteriously disappearing from their homes. Nobody has—"
"Did you say Badass, Michigan?" Dean interrupts.
Sam shoots him a dirty look. "Bad Axe. It's in the upper thumb." Sam holds his hand up and uses his other hand to point at the top of his thumb in a ridiculous substitute for a map. The bitch face Sam is giving him tells him he shouldn't say anything about it though. "Like I was saying, kids are going missing on Christmas Eve and none of them have ever been found. Gone without a trace, no sign of forced entry, no bodies ever found."
"What makes you think this is our kinda thing and not some psycho killer?" Dean asks, hoping that maybe he'll still get his vacation if this winds up being outside of their wheelhouse.
"Why would a serial killer hit the same town exactly a year apart?"
"I don't try to understand these people, Sammy," Dean says with a shrug.
"Well, I don't think a single person could abduct four children in one night and five kids the next year with no one noticing until morning," Sam says seriously. "Come on, you have to admit this sounds like our kind of thing."
