Animated 4: Kronk's New Groove v The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kronk's New Groove {original-The Emperor's New Groove (2000)}
I love me some more Kronk
The Little Mermaid II {original-The Little Mermaid (1989)}
The Little Mermaid was my favorite Disney movie when I was little, so when my mom got me Little Mermaid II for Christmas I loved it almost as much as I loved the original! It follows the story of Melody, Ariel and Prince Eric's daughter, who (due to nefarious happenings shortly after her birth) has no idea her mother was a mermaid, and her journey to find out her heritage and why she's so drawn to the idea of life under the sea! I can still remember some of the songs, and while the animation isn't nearly as good, it's still a worthy sequel.
idk how the broader population feels about this movie but i watched it a TON on vhs as a kid. stan melody!!!!!

Andersen:
Inside out destroyed me but also made me feel normal and understood as an emotional teenager. She was so relatable to tween me and I’m very excited to see if I still relate to her in the sequel!!
Bonesaw (art credit to @elcuervoborracho):
Tiny adorable murderous terrifying serial killer. Has an army of robot spiders and a prehensile spine. Commits the worst crimes imaginable but still thinks swearing is bad

Remember to submit before I close the form (in about a week, I've got to take a break from tumblr).
The previous rule of "no movie that's already been in this tournament" is out! You can submit movies that were here under the "war" or "old" movies denominations!

Shark Tale:
It’s got robert de niro as the don of the shark mafia.
I never actually finished this movie but it does totally have the shark mafia! It's like the regular mafia but with sharks so automatically cooler.
Goncharov:
No propaganda because it'd be unfair.

Sister Act:
A... let's say burlesque singer (really a prostitute singing in Las Vegas) goes to throw his reconciliation gift at the head of her lover when she finds him killing a guy. Realizing he's a mafia boss, she flees, followed by his henchmen trying to kill her. She's put in witness protection in the only place the mafia won't even think of looking for her... a convent. There, she hates everything, but she's out of harm's way. She then decides that "keeping a low profile" can and will include reforming their choir and making it sing with a bit more... energy.
All Dogs...:
It's got the dog mafia in a pretty essential role.

Batman...:
The mafia's presence in this film is really important, informing the actions of all the characters both in the flashbacks and in the present day. Also, we find out one of the characters has a surprisingly deep connection with the mafia and it's a very effective reveal.
Goncharov:
No propaganda because it'd be unfair.

The Godfather: Part III:
Continues the Corleone's family drama decades after the end of The Godfather Part II, I'm kind of a sucker for this one. Yes, the story isn't as tight as the first two and some of the plot points are questionable. But the cast is still really strong, the good moments are some of the best in the series, and those last five minutes hit such an emotional gut punch.
Sister Act:

The Godfather:
The most iconic mafia movie ever. Countless lines of pure gold "an offer he cannot refuse" "sleeping with the fish". The whole beginning scene. "you come to me on my daughter's wedding day..."
