Mercury - Chapter 11: House Calls
Chapter 10/-----
Mercury Masterlist
Masterlist
Character: Peter Maximoff x reader Summary: You go to Peter's childhood home to visit his mother, but are interrupted with some less than ideal news bout Magneto. You return to an unwelcome scene at the mansion. Warnings: death :( Words: 2700 A/N: not even gonna try to make up an excuse for the lack of posting. anyway.
The next morning was painfully awkward.  Jean rushed up to you at breakfast, a fluster of apologies.  “I didn’t mean for Hank to find out, I swear!  Charles accidentally heard me thinking about it, and he was surprised and Hank overheard and-”
“Hey, it’s okay Jean.  It’s not a huge deal.”
“Oh that’s no good.  That tone of voice?  It’s definitely a huge deal” said a voice from behind you.
You glanced over your shoulder to see Jubilee catching up with you.  “Good morning, Jubilee.”
“No it isn't,'' she said.  “What’s the matter?  You sound like your dog just died.”
“Thank you Jubilee, but I’m just tired.  Late night last night.”
“Ohhh you were out with Peter, weren’t you?  Was it a late night or a late night?”
“Oh my God, Jubilee, it was not like that.”
“But you’re going to see his mom today,” Jean interjected.
“How do you- Stay out of my head Jean!” you protested.
“I’m sorry, I just want to help.  Things are weird between you and Peter right now, which means things are weird for everyone.”
“Right, well, we’ll figure it out over the next few days.  Maybe some time away from everything will help us figure out what the hell is going on.”
Jubilee and Jean shared a look.
“What was that?”
“What was what?” they asked in unison.
You rolled your eyes.  “I don’t even know what to say to the two of you at this point.”
The three of you stepped into the dining room together, to immediately be confronted by Peter.  “Y/N!  Goodmorning!  I’ll catch up with you a little later, okay?”  He sped off.
“Do you want me to talk to him for you?”  Jubilee whispered.
“No!” you hissed in response.
“Let’s just get something to eat,” you said, a little too loudly.
“Y/N?  Is that you?”  Hank called from the kitchen.
You rounded the corner to see the scientist standing over the stove, making breakfast.  He prepared you a plate, talking all the while.
“How was your night last night?”
“It was fun, Hank.  We went to Darla’s, ate, and talked.  Oh, and by the way, we’re going to visit Ms. Maximoff today.  We’ll probably be gone for a few days.”
Hank’s mouth tightened, but he nodded.  “Have fun.  And make sure to call and check in.”
“I promise.”  You grabbed the plate and headed towards the dining room.  “Thanks for breakfast, Hank!”
You knew Hank had not been crazy about you and Peter getting close to begin with.  Peter was a stranger, and a disruption in your previously well-established lives.  But you were glad to see that Hank was starting to be willing to let things slide.  For months, he had been suspicious of every little thing the two of you did together.  How ironic that now there may actually be something between you two and Hank was finally believing that your relationship was purely platonic.
You walked over to the dining area to find a spot for your little group, when you ran into a tall form, very nearly dropping your breakfast in the process.
“I’m so sorry-” you began, before your eyes widened in surprise.  “You’re blue.”
The blue boy looked a bit bashful, but stuck out his hand.  “My name is Kurt.  I arrived here last night with Raven Darkhölme.  I teleport.”
You took his hand and shook it.  So Raven was here, huh?  Hank did seem like he was in a better mood than usual.
You smiled at Kurt.  “Y/N. I’m a teleporter too.  We’re going to have a lot to learn from each other.  I’ve got places to be this morning, but I’ll be sure to catch up with you soon.”
You scarfed down your breakfast as Jean and Jubilee chatted about Scott.  Turns out that there may be something budding between Jean and the new kid in school.
Saying goodbye to the girls, you rushed upstairs to get ready.  You hated to admit it, but you could hardly wait to see Peter again.  As much as you dreaded confronting him about last night’s events, you were beginning to realize how badly you wanted to be around him, all of the time, and you were scared to admit to yourself what that might mean.
You threw your essentials into a bag.  Grabbing the last item from your closet, you zipped your bag to find Peter standing in the doorway, goggles on and a shiny metallic backpack that seemed to be made of the same fabric of his jacket slung over his shoulder.
“You ready to get out of here?” he asked.
You picked up your bag and nodded.  “Let’s go.”
Peter approached you, much in the same way he had the night before, but there was something strange about it now.  He seemed tense and awkward, and the air of relaxation that had been around you before he had run with you to Darla’s was gone.  His hand rested in the familiar position on the back of your head, but it seemed much more tentative than it had before.
“Buckle up,” he said, and then you were gone.
A moment later, the two of you stood in the kitchen of the Maximoff residence, in front of a screaming Ms. Maximoff.
“Hi, Mom!” said Peter, chipper as ever.
“Holy shit, Peter!” she yelled.  “You have got to stop just appearing like that!”
She turned to you.  “Hello, Y/N.  It’s lovely to see you again.”
“Hello Ms. Maximoff.”
She laughed and shook her head.  “I’ve told you a thousand times, Y/N.  Call me Madeline.  Come here Peter.”
Madeline approached her son and pulled him into a hug.  “You need to visit here more often.  Your sister misses you.”
“Ah, you know how it is,” he said.  “I get distracted.  But I’m here now, hopefully for a few days.”
She moved back and went back to the dishes she had been cleaning.  “You two get settled in, and then we can all go out for lunch after I pick Wanda up from school.  Y/N, are you alright with staying in the basement with Peter like you usually do?”
“Shouldn’t be a problem.”
She nodded.  “Perfect.  You know where the air mattresses are, Peter.  Get one out for her.”
“Aye-aye, captain,” he said, and grabbed you, zipping the two of you off to the basement.
You set down your bag, and by the time you looked up, Peter had already set up a bed for you on the floor, with plenty of pillows and blankets.
You kicked off your shoes and sat cross legged on the mattress, and began to speak.  “Look, Peter, we should really talk about-”
“Oh, hey, my ping-pong table!  Let’s play” he interjected.
Point taken, you weren’t talking about it.  Fine by you, you would rather forget about all this and preserve your friendship.  You stood back up and approached the machine.  “Betcha five bucks I win.”
“Oh, you are about to eat your words, Miss McCoy.”  He cracked his knuckles.  “Let’s go.”
-----
After a day about town with Madeline and Wanda, you and Peter finally were settled in for the night.
The room was dark, and you could hear his slowed breathing.  He had fallen asleep in no time, but you were still awake, agonizing over your feelings.
You didn’t think falling in love was supposed to feel so painful.
You cringed at the word.  Love.  Were you in love with Peter?  What did love even feel like?  All you knew was that you never wanted to be apart from him.  You weren’t quite sure what that meant for you.
You tossed and turned in a fitful sleep the rest of the night.  When morning finally came, you could still hear Peter’s snores coming from his bed.  You teleported into the kitchen, earning a jump from Madeline, who had been sitting at the table, coffee in hand and reading the paper.
“Honestly, Y/N, you and Peter are going to give me a heart attack if you keep showing up out of nowhere like that.”
“Sorry, Madeline.  Can I borrow your phone?”
She nodded.  “It’s in the living room.”
“Thanks!”
You stepped into the living room and dialed the X-Mansion’s number, praying that Hank would pick up.  You needed something normal to cling onto.
“Xavier residence, this is Jubilee speaking,” came the voice over the receiver.
“Jubilee, this is Y/N!  Hello!  Is Hank busy?”
“Um, I don’t think so.  I’ll go get him for you, don’t hang up!”
You heard her set the phone down as she ran off to go find him.
A moment later, a tired voice greeted you from the other side of the line.  “Y/N?”
“Good morning, Hank.”
“Morning.  How are things at Peter’s?”
“Uneventful.  We’ve just been hanging out with Madeline and Wanda.  How are things over there?”
A loud sigh crackled over the speaker.  Things were not good, then.
“Jean had a nightmare last night, worse than usual.  There was some kind of energy surge that Charles and I traced back to Cairo, and Moira McTaggert, of all people, was at the center of it.  He and Alex are heading to her office right now to see what she knows.”
“Moira?  Is that a good idea?”
“Charles seems to think so.  I guess we’ll see.  Do you know when you’ll be back?”
“No,” you said.  “But I’ll let you know when I do.  Call if there’s anything I can do to help.”
“I will.  Stay safe over there, kid.”
“I will, Hank, you too.  I’ll call you later.”
“Goodbye.”
“Bye.”
You hung up.  As you set the phone down, you felt a gust of air behind you.
“Who was that?” asked Peter.
“Hank,” you replied, turning around and rubbing your temples.  “Jean’s nightmares are getting worse, and something weird went down in Cairo yesterday.”
Peter huffed.  “We finally get a few days off and shit hits the fan as soon as we leave.  I’m telling you, Y/N, we’re the only thing holding those people together.  Come on.  Let’s go get something to eat and then we can hang out.”
After thanking Madeline many times for the breakfast she made, you and Peter retreated down to the basement.  Peter flipped on the television and let a news station play quietly.  When you looked at him quizzically, he only shrugged and said, “Background noise.”
“Come on,” he said, grabbing your hand, “I want you to try and beat me at Pac Man.  I swear I won't use my powers.”
Before you could respond, the voice on the news caught both of your attention.  “Lehnsherr was identified yesterday in this small town, in central Poland.”  A reporter stood in front of a crime scene, doing a segment you knew that everyone, but particularly Peter, dreaded.  “Leaders from all communities are urging their citizens to remain calm as police and armed forces are mobilizing to find Lehnsherr before he can strike again.”
Peter still hadn’t let go of your hand, and anxiously squeezed your palm in his.  “If anyone has information about Lehnsherr, or as he is also known, Magneto,” the reporter continued, “contact your local authorities immediately.  And proceed with caution as he is considered extremely dangerous.”
“Peter?  Y/N?” Madeline called.
In the blink of an eye, you were standing next to the Pac Man machine, watching Peter play, and the channel had been changed.
“What’s up?” responded Peter, his voice slightly too casual.  Okay then, you weren’t going to mention the news segment to Madeline.  You took the hint and stayed silent, staring at Ms. Pac Man moving across the screen.
“I’m just checking in on you,” she said, reaching the bottom of the stairs.
“I’m good, playing Pac Man,” he said.  He didn’t move his eyes away from the screen.  You could see how tense his body was, despite his casual voice, and you were fairly certain his mom could tell that something was off too.
“Are you sure you weren’t watching this?” his mom asked, and changed the channel back to Erik’s news report.
Peter didn’t respond.
“You’re going after him, aren’t you?” she asked.
“You both keep telling me I need to get out more, don’t you?” replied Peter.
Madeline sighed.  “I can’t stop you.  No one can.  But trust me, this won’t end well.”
Peter let his character die and turned to face his mom.  “I’m not afraid of him,” he said, a slight quiver in his voice.
“You should be,” Madeline whispered.
She looked at you.  “Keep him safe.”
You nodded, and she turned to go back upstairs, seemingly accepting what Peter was about to do.
Peter shut off the TV and flopped onto his bed.  “I have to go find him,” he said.  “I’ll be back soon I just-”
“No.”
“What?”
“No.”
“Y/N, I’m going.  You can’t stop me.”
“I’m not going to stop you.  I’m going with you.”
“No!” he cried.  “Hank would kill me if something happened to you because of me.”
You shrugged.  “And Madeline would kill me if something happened to you because I wasn’t there.  So it doesn’t matter, and I’m going.”
He sighed.  “Fine, but we need a plan.”
“We go back to the school, get some supplies, see if we can find anyone who wants to help,” you said.
Peter shook his head.  “If we go back, they’ll try and stop us.”
“I doubt it,” you replied.  “Charles wants to find Erik just as much as you, so he won’t stop us, and he’ll probably help.  The only problem would be Hank, and we could escape him, no problem.”
Peter looked at you.  “You are a better friend than I ever could have hoped for.”
“Hey, what are friends for?” you said.  “I’m with you to the end of the line, Maximoff.”
-----
After telling Madeline goodbye, you gathered your things and Peter ran the two of you back to the mansion.
You felt the familiar rushing sensation and sudden stop as you arrived at your destination.
Something was very wrong.
Peter was gone, and as you turned around, you saw the school behind you.  Well, if you could still call it a school.  Xavier's School for Gifted Mutants was now a shouldering pile of debris.
Fear gripped your chest.  "Peter?" you cried.  "Hank? Charles? Alex?"
Peter ran up beside you, panting ever so slightly.  "Explosion.  Got everyone out."
"Y/N!" called a voice from behind you.  You turned and saw Hank running up to you.  He hugged you, then turned to Peter, pulling the speedster into a hug as well.  "Thank you, Peter.  You saved us all.  We owe you."
“Where’s Charles?” you asked.  “We need to talk to him.”
Hank’s face turned stony.  “They took him away.”
You were about to ask for more information, but you heard a series of whispers around you.
“She's the one.”
“That's her.”
“Are you sure?”
“Is she going to help us?”
Raven stood in the middle of a ring of students in her natural blue form.  She looked distressed, and locked eyes with Hank, her face questioning.
“They look up to you,” said Hank.  “Right now, they need you.”
“That's not what they need,” she replied, and shifted into her human persona.
A yellow car screeched to a stop and Scott jumped out.  “What happened?” he cried, his fear evident.  “Where's Alex? Where's my brother?”
“I'm pretty sure I got everybody,” said Peter.
“Alex was closest to the blast,” said Hank, the realization dawning on him.
“Alex,” was all Scott said, his voice breaking.
You raised a shaky hand to your mouth, tears welling up.
Alex
Everything went silent and still, until you felt a pair of strong arms wrap around you.  Realizing that it was Peter, you instinctually buried your head into his chest,  Your throat burned, but the tears wouldn’t come.  Is this what shock felt like?
Alex was dead.  Your best friend.  Your brother.  And you would never see him again.
Suddenly, a loud noise came from above you, and a helicopter descended, landing in the ruined courtyard.
Moira approached the chopper, waving.  “Hey!  Moira MacTaggert, CIA!  Thank God you're here!”
A man in tactical gear stepped off of the aircraft and began to walk towards your group.  He removed his sunglasses and a look of horror came over Raven’s face as she recognized him and screamed, “WAIT!”
That’s the last thing you heard before everything went dark.

Bee's Ikereview - Harr Silver
This is literally so late I finished is route in January but anyway
loved this route. probably it's my favorite ikerev route as of now. it was just really sweet, but not it a cringy way (aside from the inherent cringe of reading otome, but I think I've become desensitized to that lol)
I was a really big fan of how much lore there was, at least with the history between lancelot, sirius, and harr, which I always like to know more about. also more with that blonde guy (disciple dude) whose name I cannot remember for the life of me and do not care to look up
there was a degree of independence that mc had as well, even though she was stuck in the house. she wasn't hanging off of harr the whole time and I liked that
but I liked him a lot as a suitor. he was incredibly sweet and caring and it was cute to watch their relationship grow. it felt genuine. some routes feel like they just eventually hit a point in time where a switch flips and suddenly the suitor and mc are in love. there was definitely a really solid buildup here that i appreciated, and i was a lot more invested in the route because of that (though the poor pacing rarer in ikemen than other games. I still feel like harr was one of the best done examples though)

The Star Wars Original Trilogy is peak fiction because they took a fairy tale and set it in space, then they gave the princess in distress a GUN. But even better they gave her a sharp tongue and the power of revolution. They made the “dragon” a depressed cyborg father with asthma who doesn’t understand his own emotions and does murders because of it. And they made the knight a blond Barbie boy who attempts to solve problems with the power of love like he’s Sailor Moon or something.
And then they said, “oh yeah they’re all related btw. All the galaxy’s problems are this one family’s fault. Hope this helps 😘”
