Mkay so it’s pretty obvious that most of the people who watched Teen Titans hate Terra.

Anyone who has a “legit” reason will say “she betrayed them” or “she’s evil!” Yeah but let’s look at what led up to that? Mkay, say you’re a girl who is about fifteen years old, a runaway from a kingdom in Europe. Terra was experimented on to give her her powers. She didn’t always have them. Her and Geo-force (her brother) were experiments. Now, that sounds pretty eh if you don’t have a heart, but then after that, let’s take a deeper look, shall we? You’re on the run. You have this crazy power that can kill people pretty damn easy. You can take out homes, cities, mountainsides and you can’t even control it. Anyone you get close to triggers your emotions and it’s all over. Do people not remember what was said to her? “Everywhere you go you try to do good, and fail. So everyone turns against you.” So chalk that up on the board shall we? No one trusted her. Ever. She hurt everyone she loved, never had a home and was alone for who knows how long. Then she finds them. The titans. She thinks for one bright and shining moment that all of it could be over, she found somewhere new, but that little thought was pinging in the back of her head the entire time. She knew she was going to hurt them, she didn’t want to. She tried to run again, but she was coerced into staying just long enough for shit to hit the fan. Beast boy finds out she can’t control it. All that fear she hasn’t had to feel for a bit comes raging back to the surface. “He’s going to hate you” “he’s afraid of you” “get the hell away from here before they hurt you.” That sort of thing. He does say they would still like her but who is going to just believe that? How many times do you think people said that to her before? In her mind that is as flimsy as a plan as a piece of paper holding a lion back. He promises to keep his mouth shut, and then what happens the very next day, after you’ve entrusted someone with the darkest secret you have? Yeah, okay, some crazy guy traps you- after losing control and possibly killing or seriously injuring your newfound crush -and tells you, like no one has before, he can help you. What a great idea? Now, he’s evil, quite possibly a mental case, but who cares? Who, in their right mind would consider drowning over taking a life ring even if the damn thing was on fire? But she doesn’t accept it. In the name of the one person she’s trusted thus far, she doesn’t take that promise. Yet. What was that he had said? Beast boy was a liar and the Titans are like all the other people who hurt you? Well, Raven wasn’t exactly friendly, and the rest of them were hospitable enough. Maybe we can trust them this time. Or maybe he’s right? Only a few hours later, after a mental breakdown, Robin opens his mouth. Misunderstandings lead to wars, and this one led to her believing that Slade was right, that beast boy had already betrayed her trust, and they were going to turn on her again. If you’ve ever felt that kind of fear, and if you’ve ever known what a true phobia is, you would know there was no way in hell she was staying. Lost of hope, she finally accepts the offer of learning control from the worst possible source in her case. But it works. And she learns. He, after all the people she’s ever met, has actually helped her regardless of her situation. He didn’t turn on her, he didn’t shun her or hurt her. No, after all the people in the world she knew, this guy who was supposed to be evil saved her life in basic terms. The guy that the Titans said was… Evil. Helping her was evil? Who knew. All she knew was that the truths the Titans told her- every single one -had fallen flat at this point. At the carnival, at the Tower, it’s still pretty obvious she’s not into this whole killing the Titans, after surely being brainwashed and convinced they’re the evil ones, after realizing or being told “you don’t need friends.” She’s nervous, after all that she still wants to save one. At least one. She “rescued” beast boy before it could all begin, and ran. Again. The house of mirrors is the final straw for her. In a tug of war between the two people she thinks are trustworthy (maybe), she finally makes her choice. But why does she choose evil? Terra defended beast boy at first, she fought back. She even said “I won’t let you hurt my friend.” And in response she hears “you don’t have any friends.” And what a fucking way to prove it beast boy. She reached for him, hoping that after all that happened she could be saved by him. Together, right then, they could’ve defeated him and ran. But he refused her. He betrayed Terra, and confirmed every fear that she had been fed by Slade. Now, completely shattered, she gives up. She hates them, and the entire house of cards she had been building, all the tensions and all the lies, all the mistrust and all the fear, crashes down and her life has been reverted again to running and hiding. But this time, she has a debt to repay. One she will gladly repay in earnest to kill the people who hurt her. Revenge isn’t righteous, but it was her only option. What would you have done? And don’t you dare say you would’ve done things any different, because it makes you a liar. You would’ve done the same damn thing. Terra reacted as a human being. She let all the pain crush her spirit, and she ran to the only person she finally knew she could trust. And after she couldn’t defeat them, he turned on her, too. All of his lies unraveled quite quickly, and she saw the truth. She was confused and afraid nearly all her life, and in the end? She still saves everyone, giving the ultimate sacrifice and dying in the place of those who had been her enemies for so long. Dying in the place of the ones who, in her mind, betrayed her. Saves them and does something that none of the rest were able to do. She killed the only friend she had, or believed she had, for them. The people who didn’t even try to save her. Not really. And Terra is the evil bitch?
