Assignment 4 - Writing for TV
âMilk Crisisâ
INT - Joe the farmerâs living room - Day
Intro: Camera pointed at the TV in the living room, TV is switched on, playing BBC news. There is a sudden âBreaking newsâ on the TV, a news presenter from the BBC is speaking.
BBC:
âBreaking news has just come in, the whole world is in a milk crisis.â
Channel switches to a farmer being interviewed by ITV News:
Farmer:
âMy stocks are down 70%.â
Switches channels to people scrambling in a supermarket to get the last cartens left
Switches channels to a builder being interviewed by Channel 4 News:
Builder:
âHow am I going to do my job now without my proper cup of tea. No milk, itâs a disaster.â
TV turns off, camera cuts to Joe the farmer in his chair. He sighs and stands up, gets out his iphone.
Joe:
âHey Siri, How can I make cows produce more milk.â
Siri
âHere are results for âHow can I make cows produce more milk?â
Siri:
âA study has shown that by playing R.E.M. âEverybody Hurtsâ, cows produce more milk.â [Footnote 1]
EXT - Joeâs field - Day
Cuts to Joe on a tractor with a trailer filled with speakers.
Joe:
âHey Siri, Play âEverybody hurtsâ by R.E.M.â
Siri:
âPlaying âEverybody Hurtsâ by R.E.M. on Apple Music.â
The Speakers start to blast out âEverybody Hurtsâ. Â Suddenly an eruption of milk comes out of all of the cows, shooting up into the sky. Joe celebrates by throwing his arms in the air and then drives off into the distance as the sun goes down. Â An Apple logo appears with a slogan.
âKnowledge wherever, wheneverâ.

Assignment 1 - Selling someone you love
Selling My Mother
Here she is, a five foot four, fifty-eight year old, grown woman with silver hair. A complicated creature with a library sized brain. She has always had a strive to learn, from doing her gardening course to her Thursday night art classes. Not to mention, a Chartered Marketer with a degree and a Masters of Business Administration. She always seems to amaze me with how clever and organised she is.
My mum has one of the biggest hearts I know, she would always put others before herself, such as the multiple times when I would call her and whatever she was doing, she would stop immediately and talk for over an hour. She would go to Australia and back if she needed to. She literally dropped everything she was doing for a week to help me find a place at University, She even drove me down to Cornwall a day after I rang up the University about a place. Her drive to help me knows no bounds.
She has been through thick and thin with mothering, but she has stuck at it. A true example of strength of character and resilience, especially through the few rough patches. She cannot be thanked enough for her love, especially when a hug or a long chat on the phone is needed.
She does sometimes tend to walk off without telling you or can get confused very easily. This is quite a funny characteristic of hers, which is hilarious at times. She is also, tone deaf, not able to sing a single note, which is an added extra of humour. I am truly worried about carols at christmas this year, when we all go singing in the Watlington town centre. When she starts to sing, I will keep on reminding her to keep in tune.
She will always have your back, no matter what situation. Through thick or thin. Anytime or place. She is the go to person, if I am feeling down about something and need to talk to someone. She still sends me inspirational quotes over text to help get through those harder days such as âOne day or day one, you decideâ from a collection of cards she has.
Always giving positive advice about lifeâs cycle of ups and downs, saying âThe glass is half full, not emptyâ or âTurn that frown upside downâ. It cannot be fully summed up the amount my mum has done, but all I can really say is thank you.
