I struggled a bit with this guy. I had a heavy burnout and art block happen spring of last year and hit one of those rare snags where I just couldn’t make anything work, art-wise, and it shows in the early stages of this piece. Fortunately, Almonihah was incredibly patient and I was able to set it down for a few months, rebound, and then get back to it. 

Love them all to bits! But Argentum owns the most special spot in my heart. So many fond memories~♥ I enjoyed her relationship with Caelentus way too much and adored her character and personality. Geeeeez, I miss those times...

“Hoho. Demanding, aren’t we? Then get those zennies of yours ready for the drinks, because I’ve met quite my share of Magalas – and sometimes in… peculiar circumstances.

There was one day when the Guild noted the presence of a Gore Magala dwelling in the Ancestral Steppe, near Val Habar. Though not much information about it had been gathered, Hunters were requested to investigate and capture the beast, if possible.

In the meantime, I was in the Gathering Hub with a team of my lads, knocking back ale and chatting about casual topics, until this Huntress came and took me aside to flirt with me.

You know, I’m a simple man. I was single. She looked pretty, got a bit suggestive, and then offered that we took on that Magala quest to get to know each other, so I thought why not? With me it wasn’t the first time a relationship started like that.

Man how I was stupid.

First, when we reached the Steppe and located our target, we discovered it was not exactly a regular Gore Magala. The patches of golden scales peeking through its black hide seemed to suggest it had failed molting completely, and it was both angry and in pain because of that. Now to know why it was here, if it had matured between its first sighting and our arrival, or before, it was impossible to tell. And of course, we were only two on the quest – a risky bet given the sudden level of danger this investigation took.

We were determined however. Or at least, I was. Call it pride, call it foolishness, whatever; I unsheathed my Longsword and battled, rather well I dare say. My partner did the same with her Hammer. By the looks of it, she knew her stuff, so I had hope we would succeed.

Until I got caught off-guard by a powerful strike. One that didn’t come from the Monster.

Thought I’d try my own spin on Zhan Tiri last night. Tbh I was a little disappointed in the final look of her after seeing all the other images throughout the series, esp after all their other REALLY great monster designs they’ve had. It somehow was more plain that the simplified version and just felt it needed more. Idk. I was happy to see demon form at all tho of course.

Went with a sort of “wither and decay” look and brought more motifs from the tree tied in. Was also surprised more greens and purples weren’t really used in the final look considering they always had it come up with the disciples and other stuff. *shrug*

My other take on Zhan Tiri!…. 

Looking back on the lore they gave us, the timeline and facts all get really jumbled and confusing tbh… So I’m trying to formulate stuff from what we know and some on my own interpretation. I think Zhan Tiri is likely just an actual demon from another realm/hell that can shapeshift and studies dark magic, but the demon form is the real one.

Also…. I don’t think Demanitus is all the saint he’s cracked up to be. Was shown at the end that they did work together and I’m like “maybe they had more going on between them than we thought?…” Demanitus might have been the one to summon Zhan Tiri from the start in search of knowledge and they worked together with his pupils until he decide to suddenly grow a conscience. I guess the pupils picked “mom” in the divorce fff But yeah, she wasn’t too happy about that sudden betrayal. In this version since Cass is actually a demon spawn/vessel for her later, I sort of took elements of the original design as well as a bit of Cass, and possibly a more straightforward approach with her as well with selective truths as manipulation until she’s ready to take over.
