what do you like to eat

If he had any luck at all, Huxley considered himself lucky that toys didn't need food, since he hadn't eaten in days. Still, the memory of it made him smile.

"I just like sweet stuff," he said with a shrug. "I'd ask Whisker, but... I think they're half asleep right now... Carrot cake, maybe?"

Whisker twitched in their sleep.

Huxley was hardly able to stifle a chuckle. "I guess that's a yes."

I adore Huxley. Could I get him anything to make sure he's extra comfortable?

"Um... Thanks, but I'm fine. Honestly, a leaf is one of the comfier things to sleep on out here. Dirt isn't as soft as it looks."

Huxley was quiet for a moment.

"... Look... I'm sorry if I'm a little... cold? When you guys say stuff like that. It's just... I just got out of a place where the head of the house was nice to me for weeks, like I was supposed to be her new best friend or something. And then..." He looked down at his spring. Huxley sighed, continuing through the leaves. "It just... doesn't feel real right now, when people say nice stuff. For years, people only pulled me out of the box when they wanted a joke, and now I-... It's just... gonna take a while for me to trust people again, ok? If all of you really mean that stuff, then... I'm sorry..."

"... Maybe... later? Yeah... Maybe later..."

"Noit'snot-"

So how's the small rabbit doing?

They doing okay?

"Wisker? All things considered, they're fine. A bit sleepy, but fine."

Wisker sticks a paw over Huxley's shoulder and waves.

A light? Do you reckon it’s from a house? Or something… smaller?

The moonlight above was barely making its way between the branches, leaving him with only small slivers of light to see with. Combining that with how slippery these leaves could be against his spring, Huxley had to hop carefully through the dead leaves littering the forest floor.

"Well, it can't be the owner," Huxley said. "It's... smaller, like you said. I don't think it can be from a house, though... it's... moving...?"

I’ll take that as a yes.

I’m sorry I still haven’t done anything here yet. I joined artfight this year, so I don’t think I’ll be able to draw for this blog. Also, remember that writing project that took me away from this one? I promised a sequel for that one, so now I’m honor-bound to that, too.

Here’s the good news: Apparently I’m a pretty good writer. I know ask blogs are traditionally visual, but what if I just made all the responses written? There would only be drawings once in a while, for important parts of the story, or things that really need a picture. Other than that, all the responses to asks would be just written. Would y’all be ok with that?

I still want to tell the story I’ve had planned for this place. I still love DTWM. If I continue this, I’ll be simplifying the posts a bit. The art will be partially-colored sketches. I think I just put too much on my plate last time

I keep getting new people coming in here every few weeks, so I know you still want to see this story... See you this summer?

Thank you all for being so patient. I still want to continue this blog’s story very much, and I will. Once I get back to this, the background for the next... I dunno, 5? 10 asks? The background’s already done, so once I get the foreground done, the rest should go by pretty quick!

That writing project that’s been holding me up? Almost done. College is gonna start up again for me in about a week, but I’ll still be working on this!
