it's really not fair. they keep playing this game with each other - breaking up, getting back together, breaking up, fucking around, 'hating' each other only to wind up back in bed . . . were they ever truly going to be done with one another? who were they kidding? and while there's pain to the back and forth sylvie falters as she's pressed into the wall, because being claimed as such is thrilling as much as it is panic-enducing at times.

they're sparring. it's one of the rare times the room isn't being monitored, as a certain someone's been pulled away for a mission and his replacement wandered off, so sylvie's feeling a bit daring. not that she cares much about being watched but some of the agents in this establishment can't keep shit to themselves.

he makes the remark, and she makes a quick move to swipe his legs from under him. when he lands on the ground she's on top of him, pinning both his arms down with her knees.

' you could shout it to the whole world and if i didn't feel like it, no one would ever believe you. but if you need it to be secret to get all hot and bothered, sure, ' she says with a smirk and pins him down just a little harder. ' now shut up and show me what you can do. '

so perhaps she could have tried to warn loki of her arrival, but how exactly was she supposed to do that? they didn't exactly have a tempad to interact with anymore, out here in space where it would eventually need to be charged. loki can't move from this throne, that was clear, but it was the first time she could exactly how stuck they were up close. there were so many branches it was a miracle sylvie could see loki this close. feet away and they'd be completely surrounded.

" you didn't think i was going to let you spend all of eternity up here always alone, did you? i realized i still have this device, and it brings me here effortlessly. well . . . it would have been effortless, if most of the floor still existed, " she said with a small shrug. sylvie watched them for a moment before gently, and carefully, kneeling next to them on the ground. felt more secure that way.

" i wanna figure out a way to get you out of here. there has to be someway. "

a visit to the crumbling citadel @iorast

all she ever wanted was to have a life - a life worth living, that was fulfilling, and that had endless possibilities because she was free. no one could say she didn't give it a good ole try, and no one could say she wasn't happy. the problem with life is that it's not just 100% happiness all the time no matter what you try to do, there will always be bumps in the road, and one of the biggest ones for sylvie is . . .

well, unresolved trauma. a thousand fucking years of unresolved trauma.

maybe in the beginning she'd say that she didn't have that, that with he who remains death and even the fight after she finally had the clarity to be a mentally healthy person, but it took . . . not long to realize she was more fucked than she realized. might have even snapped at a few people and had some pretty awful dreams. she even started therapy (though that was weird...how do you explain to a therapist, in the 80s, that you're not human? she quit after two sessions).

it wasn't just her past trauma that bothered her, though. it was the knowledge that loki was just . . . up there somewhere, holding onto the multiverse, alone. no one to talk to or pester or be around. here sylvie was with the entirety of the multiverse at her figurative fingertips, she could go anywhere, and she was stalling out because loki LITERALLY had the multiverse in their hands and was without family or friends.

it took a lot of thought and practice. turns out the citadel was not the large, multi-roomed castle at the end of time like once before. the first time she opened a door and stuck her head through sylvie realized she would have been floating in space had she simply walked through. she tried multiple options, until one became the most practical: there was a circle of ground around loki's throne that she could exit onto if she was incredibly careful.

goddess or not the last thing she wanted was to not be standing on solid ground.

loki would be pissed, she was sure, but whatever. apologize later, never ask for permission. sylvie stood in her apartment, completely ready, though her heart ached a little bit. for a while she'd been determined to never try and reach out and talk to them, so actually taking the leap was anxiety inducing all on its own. like the hint of the old life she'd been glad to be away from, beckoning to try to get her back.

but it was LOKI. so with a sigh she pressed the button, stepped through dressed in her leathers, and into the space near them on the platform next to their throne. it was eerie, how quiet it was, and the faint green glow that came off each timeline was so familiar it felt . . . comfortable. like if she touched a branch, she'd also be in tune with the entirety of that universe. focus, sylvie.

there was a little bit of ducking involved, and maneuvering, but sylvie made it around the throne and into loki's view. she found herself in a good standing position right in front of them and locked eyes.

so it's funny. so many people are disappointed sylvie/loki didn't happen but man...watching season 2, i just never expected they would. she only kissed him season 1 because she needed to say goodbye. she said goodbye, sent him back to the tva, and did what's been her life's mission for over a millennia. originally i wondered if she'd have anything to do with trying to find him again, but it makes more sense to me that that was supposed to be her closing that chapter and having the life she's so desperately needed.

all that to say she still does give a shit about loki. she DOES. sylvie just doesn't want to be in battle anymore. she's done that for 1000 years. she wants to be at peace, enjoy life, and if that means never seeing loki again?? it's the price she's willing to pay.

it's not QUITE how i'm going to rp her post season 2, not always anyway, but i am very okay with her arc the last couple seasons.
