Nahida and Alhaitham piss me off the most.
Really an Indian goddess and one of the most significant Islamic Scholars are reduced to a white boy gamer?
I love them so much but it hurts.
You know what, after seeing the whole Ariel race bullshit I've had a few thoughts.
The debate about Ariel needing to be white stems from the fact that the original book she's Dutch. In the both animated and live movies she has never been represented as Dutch, in both movies being Dutch has never been an important factor. The most important part of her race/ethnicity is the fact that she's a fish.
Now it can be argued that her being white in the live movie matter because it has real life cultural influences, sure but non of them are Dutch, and more importantly she's still a fish.
The most important cultural influences in the movie are aesthetic and musical.
What I would like to know is why the people saying Ariel being white and Dutch is important are the same people saying it doesn't matter how white washed Sumeru is?
Sumeru is deeply ingrained in Middle Eastern, Indian and Egyptian culture, but the same people claiming Ariel should be white claim that "it doesn't matter if they're white its literally fiction".
Sumeru relies heavily on real-world cultures, every single region in Teyvat does. Everyone else seems satisfied with their representation but why did we get the short end of the stick.
I recognised almost every food from Sumeru as I've had most of them, I recognise names from my history and gods that are a part of my heritage, so why is it ok that only two of them are barely what they would actually look like?

If all magic can just be destroyed then it was a tool the entire time. Thats fine. But some magic is like a force of nature, like gravity.
