I am taking a part this year again as a creator! If you ever wanted a fic from me then this is your chance!
My FTH2021 Fics:
Meeting by Chance
For Our Kingdoms
Go forth and bid!
As of 8am EST today, bidding is open on FTH 2022!
Check out our tags page to find the fandom, fanwork type, special interest, or specific creator you’re looking for, and learn how to combine these to narrow down your search.
Once you’ve found the auction of your dreams, be sure to read it over carefully to make sure that what you have in mind matches the specifics of what they’re offering (in particular, make sure you don’t want anything on their Unwilling to Address list). If you’re not sure, ask the creator about it before you bid.
Then check the bidding spreadsheet to see what the high bid is, and use the bidding form to submit a bid higher than that. Bids made via commenting on DW are not valid, and trying to get permission to edit the spreadsheet directly will not work.
Once bidding closes Sunday evening, please do not try to contact the creator, even if you believe you won the auction. We will confirm all high bids and send you instructions so that you can make your donation and send us proof. Once we have your proof of donation recorded, we will put you in touch with your creator. By the same token, creators, do not try to contact your bidders before you hear from us that they donated!
We’ve got a record number of auctions this year, and we hope that translates to record amounts donated to our awesome organizations! Good luck!

About the both of us
Tumblr media
Alec and Magnus have been best friends for years. Then a bad fight forces both of them to come to terms to how they feel about each other, hoping it’s not too late.
Alec tugged his collar and widened it around his neck, nervously undoing the first button of his white shirt as he felt the alcohol kick in.
He looked at his half empty bottle of beer and sniffed, stretching his neck and closing his eyes trying to empty his mind of everything and to concentrate on the rumors and the voices he heard coming from the bar.
He focused on the clinking sound of the wine goblets and the whirring of the beer being poured into the glasses.

Scare
Written for the @thehuntersmoondiscord HM500: Scare Raphael/Simon and a haunted house meet cute written for @antisocial-af
Raphael’s heart pumps in his chest, adrenaline making him borderline giddy. He has the best job in the world. He wrinkles his nose, careful not to actually scratch the itch on his face, knowing it’ll mess up his makeup that Isabelle took far too long to apply for him.
“Cute boy with glasses coming your way,” Magnus murmurs over the sounds of the haunted house echoing around them. “Totally your type.”
Raphael smiles wide, his stomach fluttering. He has a sweet spot for guys who jumpscare and flail and yelp. They’re the most fun to scare.
The music shifts, letting Raphael know another group is about to enter his scare area. They’re all holding hands as they wander, their bodies all tense and ready to be scared. Raphael slowly makes his way out, tilting his head, really making his body contort into a way that looks creepy. One girl locks eyes with him and gasps.
The boy holding her hands turns Raphael’s way and Raphael barely keeps a smile from crawling across his lips as the boy jumps, letting out a little scream of fear. Raphael hones in, walking towards the two, pulling a wheelchair along as he goes for dramatic effect.
“No, no, no, no.”
Raphael really takes the guy in, understanding dawning on him. This guy isn’t having fun anymore. Everyone gets scared. That’s normal and what people pay for. But sometimes, it’s not fun anymore. Raphael is sure this guy is at the brink of his breaking point.
“Sit. Down.”
The guy’s eyes widen behind his glasses but Raphael pulls the wheelchair forward, nodding softly, making sure his eyes convey what he’s truly saying.
There’s a moment of pause before the guy is sitting down. “I’ll take care of him,” Raphael tells the girl before he’s wheeling the guy into the back.
“You’re okay,” Raphael murmurs, pulling this guy into a safe space before walking away and grabbing a cold water.
“This is so embarrassing,” the guy says, burying his face in his hands.
“It’s really not,” Raphael tells him, placing a hand on his shoulder. “I’m Raphael, by the way. And it’s only fun to scare when everyone involved is okay with it. There’s no shame in tapping out.”
“I’m uh. I’m Simon,” he says back, taking the water gratefully. Already the color of his cheeks are coming back, no longer an alarming shade of white. “Thank you.”
“No problem.”
It’s almost time for the next group to come through Raphael’s section but he waits, wanting to make sure Simon is alright.
“Come to the haunted house, she said. It’ll be fun, she said.”
Raphael snorts, shaking his head. “Your girlfriend?”
“No. My best friend. I’m very single.”
Raphael has no idea why he says it but before he can stop himself he blurts out, “I could help with that.”
Simon’s eyes widen before he’s smiling. “So are you strictly into scaring or could I talk you into a safe pumpkin patch?”
“I could be persuaded.”

Unwrapping
Alec’s birthday is filled with celebration shared with his family and friends thanks to his husband, Magnus. Things get interesting when gift opening rolls around. A certain gift is not only for Alec but Magnus as well. Later that night Alec learns to never underestimate the power of what’s worn underneath.
Tumblr media
Alec had never been used to celebrating his birthday before he got with Magnus and he had to admit that even if he still wasn’t a fan of parties, he’d come to enjoy a simple dinner with his siblings and their closest friends. Most of all, he loved seeing how Magnus enjoyed planning for the event, starting from the decorations and then the drinks, and the food.
He unlocked the door of the loft and was welcomed by the sight of Magnus dressed in his red and black jacket, the one that never failed to turn all Alec’s nerves on fire. Alec watched as Magnus was setting all the wine and cocktail glasses on the tray, organized in a gradation of beautiful colors, according to the cocktail that was inside. Alec got lost for a moment in his gracious movements, in that enchanting snap of his fingers whenever he conjured magic between them. No matter how many years they’d been together, Magnus performing magic was always something that got Alec’s attention.

Tempting Request (HM500)
HM500 Prompt: Pandemonium
Rating: T
Wordcount: 500
No Major Archive Warnings
Warning: Cigarette Smoking.
Confident Alec, Established Jalec, Alluding Malace, Pandemonium.
Summary:
While out on a rare night out Jace and Alec get a proposition from a stunning source.
Author Notes:
This is a Jalec/Malace fic if that isn’t cup of your tea then please ignore it. Just like everyone has their own tastes I have the right to write what I wish to. No hate will be tolerated.
I am still on hiatus for IRL stuff but I wanted to come back and post this small fic for the amazing @miss-shiva-adler. I hope they have the best birthday ever because he truly deserves it for all the work they do.
Read on AO3
Story:
Alec felt the vibration go off in his pocket and smirked as he dragged his half-finished cigarette against the wall before flicking it into a puddle in the alley.
The text was from Jace, letting him know he was there. Tonight was a rare night; usually, as a Shadowhunter, he’d be geared up and covered by ichor by now. But instead, he was going out with his boyfriend. He may have had to bribe Isabelle with some clothing, but anything was worth it to have the same day off as his parabatai finally.
Alec pulled his black jacket around him closer and ran his hand through his hair before turning into the club, Pandemonium. He didn’t always visit Downworlder clubs in the past, but as of late, it was the only place he felt Jace and him had privacy.
He slipped in quickly before allowing the erratic music and crowd of people to consume him. Before Alec knew it, he was being pulled by a hand he knew intimately into a kiss, then a booth.
“I can taste the nicotine on you,” Jace teased.
“I can taste the shot,” Alec bit back with a smirk before claiming another kiss. “Stressful patrol?”
“Not all of us were lucky enough to get the whole day off,” Jace whined as he kept their hands interlaced. “I was stuck with the rookies, and one of them, I swear, only passed the Academy cause they didn’t want to deal with him anymore.”
“Oh, so you bonded over common ground,” Alec smiled.
“I take offense to that,” Jace pouted.
“Sure you do.”
They leaned against each other on the same side of the booth and basked in each other’s presence.
“It’s not every day I get to be graced by two beautiful angels in my club,” a voice burst their bubble, causing both boys to turn and face the owner of it.
Both Shadowhunters were surprised not only by who it was but by how gorgeous the warlock was. They both knew who Magnus Bane was. They had seen him before on his throne, entertaining others.
“What can we do for you, Mr. Bane?” Alec managed out as he tried to stop staring at the rings adorning Magnus’ hands.
“I just had a request for you two,” Magnus replied as his eyes raked over the pair with a predatory grin.
“I’m sure we can fill any request you have,” Jace replied while trying to keep his eyes on Magnus’ face and not following the warlock’s bare chest framed by his silky shirt.
“I was wondering if you would join me for some fun on my throne?” Magnus boldly asked.
Alec and Jace both looked at each other as a silent question played through their eyes before they both nodded.
“I’m sure we could find a way to entertain you, Magnus,” Alec confirmed as he stood up, followed by Jace.
“Just like I’m sure you could indulge us,” Jace added, taking Alec’s hand and following after Magnus.

Summary:
Alec and Magnus travel to the past and make a big decision about their future.
Read on Ao3
Story:
The portal threw the couple out on an expensive-looking rug, causing them both to groan in discomfort.
"Where are we?" Alec questioned as he started to straighten himself out.
"Not really where darling," Magnus corrected him as he held his hand out to help his husband up. "More like when."
"When?"
Magnus looked around and confirmed that Ragnor's portal actually worked. "we are in the past, Alexander."
Alec just looked at his husband, confused. He didn't understand what Magnus was going on about. Finally, Alec took his husband's outstretched hand and replied, "Magnus did you hit your head hard on the landing?"
"No, but darling, we must get moving," Magnus stated as he started to pull Alec through the old house. "We can't stay more than an hour, or else we might be stuck."
Alec stumbled after his husband at the insistent tugging. Magnus had never led him wrong, so he trusted the other but still didn't stop the confusion growing within the Shadowhunter.
Alec watched as his husband's eyes darted around the room till a smirk played onto Magnus' lips.
"There you are!" Magnus declared in an excited tone. He moved forward, pulled on the bookshelf in front of them, and sent a pulse of his magic through the vault’s lock. He had to make sure that even if someone found his vault, they wouldn't be able to open it without his magic signature.
"Magnus?" Alec called out, even more confused than before. He looked around the room and saw old reports laying on a desk. Alec's breath caught when he noticed the dates on them. 1989.
"Just a sec, darling," Magnus called back as he shifted through the small vault. He was sure he put the vial in here. He was positive about it. Magnus pushed back some old photos till a small purple vial attempted to roll out and onto the floor. He quickly wrapped his magic around it and saved it from a shattering fall. "Got you.'
Magnus couldn't help the small thrill and anxiety that shot through his body as he looked at the flask. This small ingredient held the key to his happiness.
"We should get going, Alexander," Magnus stated as he turned back to face his husband, who was now reading through reports Magnus must've left out in the past. He could see the horror and strain on his archer's face. "Alexander?"
"In Idris, all these are locked away and censored," Alec managed out as he kept reading the orders the Clave had signed off on in the past. "Magnus, I had no idea…."
Magnus pushed the vial into his vest pocket and made his way to Alexander. He moved the files away from the Shadowhunter and cradled his husband's face gently. "My love, you aren't them. What they did in the past, you have worked relentlessly to reverse and amend. It is a part of our past, but it doesn't define us."
"They took so much from you all," Alec whispered as he leaned into Magnus' touch. "I'm sorry."
"Darling, what they did is not for you to apologize for," Magnus continued. "Now we can talk about more when we go back, but we really have to go, darling.”
“Cause Rangor and the portal?” Alec asked as he nodded.
“Yes, I’m not sure how long our dear little cabbage will be able to stabilize this magic,” Magnus replied, tugging on Alec’s hand towards the unstable-looking portal. He assumed the way back was the same way he got here. He just needed to think back to the present day for the portal to push them back into the loft. “Make sure you don’t let go, darling.”
“I wouldn’t dream of it,” Alec smiled and pulled Magnus closer. He didn’t exactly understand how he ended up here, but he knew those documents. He had so many questions, but they could all wait until they got home and far away from this time period.
“Always the charmer,” Magnus winked and closed his eyes, thinking of the potion he left on stasis in his apothecary, of Chairman probably looking around for him for lunch duty and of all of Alec’s gear and things around their home.
Alec watched his husband concentrate and, like always, swooned at the tiny creases around Magnus’ eyes as he focused harder. He cherished the small details of his husband. The Shadowhunter tightly wrapped his arms around his warlock and closed his eyes, putting his complete trust in him.
“Let’s go back home,” Magnus smiled as he pulled both of them through the portal. Magnus felt the volatile pull again as the magic ripped through time to push them back out to his present-day loft.
“Took your time, didn’t you?” Ragnor groaned, exhausted as he tried to bat away the small feline making circles around his feet. “Your beast seems to be hungry as well.”
Magnus patted himself down, checking everything was in order and the vial still secured in his vest pocket. He quickly turned around to see Alexander doing the same.
"We got the ingredient," Magnus confirmed as he snapped his fingers, summoning Chairman Meow's food dish filled for the small cat.
"I'm glad," Ragnor groaned as he fell onto Magnus' desk chair, exhausted. "I've already contacted Cat; she will be here to collect me shortly. But, be warned, she is furious."
"At you or me?" Magnus asked as he quickly started to pull out the rest of the ingredients Catarina had written down in the recipe.
"Both." Catarina's voice rang through as a portal appeared in the room. "I can't believe you both would be so reckless."
"Really? I thought this would be expected. I have different cure vials prepared at my home for whenever Magnus calls," Ragnor joked as he started to cough and groan. "Speaking of, do you have magic exhaust remedies on you?"
As Ragnor and Catarina kept going, Magnus gathered all the ingredients and started to measure them out.
"So it was for a potion?" Alec asked, walking around Magnus' workstation, careful not to get in the concentrated warlock's way.
"Not just any potion, darling," Magnus confirmed as he dumped the last of his Seelie tears into the pot before vanishing the jar with a mental note to contact Meliorn for more. "This is one of the most important potions I have made."
"For a client?"
"No, it is for you, my dear husband."
"For me?" Alec questioned as he kept watching Magnus add ingredients before letting the potion simmer.
Magnus walked forward and took Alec’s hands, and tugged him close. “Remember how we had talked about immortality in the past?”
“We agreed that if it came to it, I would get Raphael to turn me,” Alec nodded as he remembered the conversation that came after he had convinced Magnus to tell him what was bugging him. His husband had been reluctant at first to confide his newest fear with him. It had taken some coaxing till Magnus finally informed Alec that a life without him was not something he was looking forward to and often kept him up at night, especially on those that Alec was off on a mission.
“What if there was another way?” Magnus asked, bringing his hand up to caress his Shadowhunter’s cheek.
“Is there?” Alec asked while attempting to temper his excitement. He wasn’t too fond of the idea of changing to a liquid-only diet but would if it meant he would be with Magnus forever.
“We will see in a few minutes; the potion needs to set for ten minutes before it is safe for you to take it,” Magnus confirmed.
“Will I still be a Shadowhunter?” Alec asked as he looked between Magnus and the resting potion.
“As far as Catarina found, you will remain the same,” Magnus answered. “You will stop aging within a year of taking it, but there is a slight side effect of it.”
“What is it?”
“The potion was created by a Seelie so that they could keep their partner without binding them to the Seelie Realm,” Magnus explained. “In doing so, the partner, later on, developed some extra abilities. Abilities that are usually only Seelie. Random plants growing at will and the sort.”
“So I will be part Seelie and part Shadowhunter?” Alec questioned as he kept counting the seconds for the potion to set.
“Not enough Seelie to cause a ruckus but enough that I won’t have to worry about you around my greenhouse,” Magnus teased, trying to lighten the mood. “We can wait, you know. I could put the potion into stasis and look for more ways before we settle on this one.”
Alec looked between his husband and the potion. With the potion, he could maintain a close to normal Shadowhunter lifestyle. Sure, Alec might have to quit later on once people start figuring out he isn’t aging, but he could have a few more years protecting his Parabatai and sister. Alec wouldn’t have to put Jace through the pain of a broken Parabatai bond. The potion was a blessing compared to other methods they have explored.
“I want to do it,” Alec confirmed and kissed Magnus’ cheek. “This way, you can also still show me all the great food around the world like you enjoy doing.”
“I won’t hold it against you if you want to wait, Alexander,” Magnus conveyed, not wanting to push his husband into a choice. He didn’t want Alexander to come to regret it and their relationship to suffer for it. Magnus was aware he was already selfish by making his lover immortal but, he refused to let it cause a rift between them. If Alexander wanted to wait years before making the decision, then Magnus was ready to accept that.
“Magnus,” Alec called softly. “I don’t want to wait. I want to spend the rest of your forever together. I want to take the first step into our forever.”
Magnus leaned forward and sealed their lips together, relishing the stubble that brushed against him and the soft reply from Alec as he returned the kiss. “You will never cease to amaze me, my love.”
Magnus lifted the pot and poured it out to a small glass, observing the potion for discrepancies. Finally, he turned to Alec and handed him the violet drink. “It might taste a bit like metal, but that is normal.”
Alec smiled and looked at the half-filled cup. He thought that it would be filled with fanfare and dramatics when the moment came to be immortal. Alec believed that he would be nervous, and he still was but not the type of nervous he expected. He was nervous because he would be ensuring his fairy tale with Magnus would never have an end date after this drink. Instead, he would get a happily ever after. Forever after. With one more look at his husband and even the two still bickering warlocks in the background, Alec tossed the potion back like a shot of alcohol and swallowed it all.

Summary:
Alec gets some alarming news as he tries to get his paperwork done.
Read on Ao3
Story:
Alec sighed as he closed another folder and looked at the stack of fifty more waiting for him to approve. He started to wonder if the Head of Institute position was just a glorified secretary job. If it were up to him, more than half of the stack would be thrown out. Alec didn't understand why the Clave demanded written paperwork.
"Sorry, I'd usually knock, but this is urgent, Sir," Andrew explained as he pushed through Alec's office door. He didn't make a habit of locking it, at least not when Magnus wasn't visiting.
“What did my parabatai break now?” Alec groaned. He had hoped that since Jace had a date night with Clary tonight, he would be safe from his brother’s antics.
“No, not Jace this time,” Underhill dismissed and handed his boss the still alerting tablet. “It’s your home.”
“Home?” Alec took the tablet and read the warning on it. Someone in New York was draining the ley lines. Not just someone though, the map was showing the resident of a modest loft in New York was the culprit. He looked at the streets around the blinking dots as panic started to set it. “Magnus?”
“I stopped it before it sent the report to Idris, but I don’t know for how long I can intercept,” Andrew informed Alec with a bit of panic in his voice. “It just pinged a minute ago. Maybe Magnus is seeing a customer who made a big request?”
“No, today is his day off,” Alec responded as he started to pull his Steele and other things from his desk. He needed to see what was going. His husband was supposed to be having a relaxing day off. Alec tapped the screen a few times and allowed himself more time by assigning the emergency for himself. He would still have to submit yet another report on it later, but at least this way, it stopped The Clave from meddling and sending random Shadowhunters into his turf. “I’ll be heading out you and Izzy are in charge till I return.”
“Sir? Are you sure you can go by yourself?” Underhill asked, concerned. “Maybe you should take a team?”
“Trust me, Underhill, I can handle whatever mess my husband has found himself in,” Alec replied, pulling his coat on. “If it makes you feel better if I haven’t checked in an hour and the alarm is still going, then tell Izzy so she can coordinate a team.”
“I will be counting the minutes, Sir,” he replied intensely.
“Knowing Magnus, he just got caught up trying a new spell he found,” Alec tried to rationalize as he pulled on his coat. He needed to keep his mind away from the worst scenarios. Alec knew Asmodeus wasn’t an issue anymore, but there were other greater demons around that weren’t exactly on good terms with the Lightwood-Banes. He needed to get home. Now.
Alec waved Underhill as he tried to convince him again to take someone with him, but he wasn’t having it. He needed to get home now and check his husband. Alec quickly swiped his Steele through a few runes before he took off home.
As Alec jumped through rooftops and back alleys, his mind kept going to the worst-case scenarios.
What if another warlock was trying to claim the High Warlock position from Magnus again? Alec had witnessed a few duels for the position in the past, but none had drained the lines like this before.
Maybe it was just Magnus experimenting with a new spell. Alec was hoping for the latter one.

Magnus receives the key to keeping his husband with him forever after a year of looking. But a misstep from the past has caused Magnus his forever. Or has it?...
Read on Ao3
Story:
Magnus looked over to his desk and sighed as the ingredient list taunted him. He snapped his fingers and refilled his wine glass. The frustration of past carelessness had closed another door for him. If he had stored his ingredients better, he wouldn’t be in this mess.
“Are you just going to glare at it?” A voice broke his spiraling thoughts. Magnus turned and looked at one of his closest friends and colleague, Ragnor.
“I messed up, my dear cabbage,” Magnus mumbled through the pain. “I ruined my only chance.”
Magnus observed as Ragnor moved to the apothecary’s desk and picked up the simple list.
“Cat came and delivered it this morning after Alexander left for work,” Magnus recalled, placing his glass down to join Ragnor. “I understand why now she knew I wouldn’t be able to retain one of the ingredients and didn’t want Alexander to see me upset.”
“One vial of Unseelie blood willingly given,” Ragnor read off with a gruff, and his face pinched in an annoyed fashion. “Where’d you even obtain such a thing?”
“After you almost got Will exiled for a bet, Tessa asked me to take him out instead of letting him run around wild with you,” Magnus smirked for a moment. “It was during one of the usual rounds that an Unseelie joined in. Everything was underground, so no one made a fuzz. If you had the stuff to bet,  then they wouldn’t turn you away. I lost quite a few things because of this, but it wasn’t till the final round that it mattered. The Unseelie had put up a few rare items, but then when the pool got more interesting, they offered a vial of their blood for the last round. Back then, I just knew it was rare and could be used as an ingredient or a trade of something I needed.”
“What did you do with it?” Ragnor asked, setting the potion list down and crossing his arms.
“I put it in one of my safe houses, but during the Uprising, I had used that house as a sanctuary for Downworlders,” Magnus explained, running his hands over his face as he replayed the memories. “It was found and burnt down with everything inside by some of The Circle in the 90s.”
“It’s gone then,” Ragnor summarized and kept looking at Magnus. “Was that the last place it was at?”
“Yes, Ragnor, my only chance at forever with my husband was burnt to the ground,” Magnus bit back, trying to control his anger. He knew that Ragnor was not trying to provoke him. “I kept the vial stored in the St. Albans safe house. Valentine’s Shadowhunters demolished it in 1990. At the time, I didn’t think anything of the loss. Just things happen, oh well. I didn’t have a plan for it.”
“So say in 1989 in May it would still be there?” Ragnor asked as he started to undo the cuffs on his coat and roll them up.
Magnus squinted at his friend and started to feel Ragnor’s magic pulling itself together.
“Yes, it was undisturbed before The Uprising,” Magnus cautiously answered as he started to grow concerned at the vast amount of energy Ragnor began to siphon from the ley lines. “Ragnor?”
“What I am about to do will never be replicated or spoken of again,” Ragnor sternly stated as he held Magnus’ gaze. “Do you understand, Magnus?”
“What exactly are you doing?” Magnus questioned while still trying to keep his composure. “Ragnor, you are going to set off the Institute’s alarms if you keep pulling!”
“I’m sure your husband will cover for us once you give him the immortality potion,” Ragnor waved off as he closed his eyes and tried to center himself. “You above most know of my fascination with dimensional travel, and while researching those theories, I stumbled onto a warlock’s abandoned work.”
“That’s great and all, Ragnor, but what does it have to do with this moment at all?” Magnus pushed as he started to get worried. He heard his phone go off on the desk and knew it must be Alexander with questions.
“I finished the work. It was complicated, and it took three decades, but I was able to complete the time travel spell. It will only allow you an hour max; the magic is too volatile for me to stabilize any longer than that. If you stay longer, I can’t guarantee that I will be able to pull you back to the present. I don’t know what will happen if you do end up getting stuck in the past, though,” Ragnor kept going as he snapped his fingers and summoned his supplies.
“Wh-,” Magnus was trying his best to keep up with him, but he still didn’t understand anything Ragnor was saying. “Ragnor, are you okay? Did you hit your head? Time travel spell?”
“There it is set!” Ragnor declared as he finished the intricate circle on the apothecary’s floor.
Magnus looked down and noticed it was a stabilizing circle. Usually, younger warlocks used this the first few times they tried summoning spells or any high-class spell.
“Keep up, Magnus,” Ragnor sighed and pulled Magnus towards the middle of the circle. “Just need you to stand here, and I can send you back. Remember only an hour.”
“Send me back?! What do you mean, Ragnor?” the slight agitation in Magnus’ voice was growing with every pull from his friend.
Ragnor stopped and looked at Magnus straight on with a determined demeanor. “I can send you back to get your ingredient, my friend. I can give you a chance at forever.”
Magnus gulped but nodded. He didn’t know if Ragnor could actually send him back, but if he could, Magnus would have the last piece to keep his happiness for a long time.
“I trust you, Ragnor,” Magnus nodded and stepped into the circle.
“Of course you do! Who else has smuggled you out of 3 countries cause you partied yourself into felonies and jail time?” Ragnor teased as he started to push his magic to force the portal.
“Hey, I only remember 2!” Magnus protested, watching the unstable-looking tear starting to form.
“Remember is the keyword in your statement,” Ragnor chuckled and pressed the last of his magic into place. “Just like a normal portal, you need to think of the place you are going, but you also need to think about the time period of the place. It works off intent; if you aren’t clear, I don’t know what will happen.”
“Why do I feel like you are also using me as an experiment as much as you are doing me a favor?” Magnus grumbled and closed his eyes. He tried to remember the rose bushes he had planted outside.
“Magnus, listen, if it weren’t you, I wouldn’t be offering to use this magic.” Ragnor sighed as he activated the stabilizing circle. “It is extremely taxing and can leave me drained for a month.”
“Then why!?” Magnus asked, shocked and fingers already inching for his cellphone to call Catarina.
“Because Magnus, if anyone deserves a do-over, it’s you.”
Magnus held Ragnor’s gaze and gulped at the weight of his best friend’s actions. “Thank you.”
“Just get in the middle and hurry. I wasn’t kidding when I said that this would take most of my magic for a while, and I can already feel it consuming it,” Ragnor grunted as he watched the portal finally stabilize enough for entry. “Go.”
Magnus nodded and readied himself. He would go in, get the vial, and back through. He knew the layout intimately, and he could maneuver it blackout drunk. Hell, he might’ve done it a few times.
“MAGNUS!?”
Magnus turned around to see his husband before cursing as he tripped and fell head-first into the open portal. Magnus focused on his destination and felt a set of familiar arms wrap around him tightly as the portal’s magic started to push them through to the other side. The warlock held a firm grip and wrapped his magic around his Shadowhunter to protect them from being separated on the journey.

Story:
Simon stared at the warlock that just passed through the portal.
Shit! I didn’t see him call for backup! Especially from a greater demon’s kid!
Simon hoped that the vampire was too distracted to notice him as he tried to stop the possession. The demon needed out of here now. A banishment would mean an automatic failure on his mission.
When Simon tried to stop his magic and separate from the cat, he found he couldn’t. Something was trapping him inside the host.
The demon started to panic and focused harder. Simon was sure it was just a hiccup and would work this time. Still, once again, his spell stayed in place and seemed to rebound him back into the cat.
“What is going on?!” Simon panicked aloud in an almost yowl. Even that was out of the ordinary, but Simon had let it go, thinking it was just because it was his first time. But, he had never seen one of his friends bound to the voice of their host. He kept cursing at himself for not taking up Kirk on his offer to shadow him for his first possession.
“Raphael, you better tell me someone found a spell that makes cats capable of speech, or I am revoking your babysitting privileges,” Magnus glared at Raphael as he flicked, capturing Chairman Meow in his cat carrier.
“We both know you would be the first to know if someone made a spell like that,” Raphael bit back, glaring at the possessed cat.
“I am supposed to be enjoying a nice drink and relaxing at the beach right now, Raphael,” Magnus complained, allowing his magic to deliver the cat carrier safely to him.
“If you two are having a moment, I could just leave,” Simon chimed in from his less than favorable position.
“I’m sure you figured out that isn’t a possibility,” Magnus replied with a smirk. “Now, do tell what made you dumb enough to possess my lovely Chairman today?”
“You leave your cat with a vampire?” Simon asked before he could think of his words.
“When I must, but that wasn’t the question, little demon.”
“Hey! Just because I’m in a cat doesn’t mean I’m little! I’m over 200 Earth Years!”
“Isn’t that like 20 ish in your realm?”
“Yeah, but I’m on Earth right now, so I can use my Earth age!” Simon hissed and startled himself in the process. He didn’t know he was capable of that.
“That doesn’t even make sense!” Raphael complained and ran his hand through his hair for the hundredth time that evening. “Magnus, can’t you just yank him out already?”
“I would if you would stop feeding him,” Magnus grumbled as he started to read the wards he had placed on Chairman’s collar. “The demon is a Trickster demon, meaning he feeds off your frustration. You have been an all-you-can-eat buffet for him.”
“I don’t deserve this,” Raphael groaned and took a deep breath, trying to compartmentalize his anger and annoyance.
“Does that work for vampires?” Simon asked as he sat up in the carrier. “I mean, vampires don’t breathe, so does it work?”
“It does when there isn’t a squeaky nagging voice in the room,” Raphael continued.
“Not helping, Raphael,” Magnus intervened before it could go on. “Still, my question stands. I have known my fair share of Trickster demons, hell I’ve contracted some myself for the usual joke or prank on a friend, but in all my years, I’ve never known one to possess an animal, much less a cat.”
“I might’ve missed,” Simon confessed. “I was supposed to be the grumpy vampire.”
“So it’s because you missed that I am here instead of with my husband,” Magnus attempted to glare at Simon, but when Chairman’s wide eyes and pulled back ears looked up at him, Magnus couldn’t do it.
“If you let your wards go, I could just be out of your hair,” Simon quickly reasoned. He needed a way out of this quickly. Currently, the Downworlders were distracted by the situation, but Simon had no plans of sticking around when that passed.
“Getting you out is a start,” Magnus agreed as he pulled at the wards around the collar, adjusting the locking mechanism to allow the demon out. “What way you return to your realm once you are out is another question.”
“Wait!” Simon panicked. “You have to promise you won’t banish me once I let the cat go, or else I won’t release the possession!”
“Oh, you are young if you think I can’t safely force you out of my precious Chairman,”  Magnus smirked and pushed a bit of his magic through to nudge the demon out.
“Woa-” Simon’s words were cut off when he felt a push of foreign magic push him out. Simon started to get sick when he began to phase through, and his body pulled itself back together. “What part of that was safe!?”
“Oh, I meant for Chairman,” Magnus smiled as he petted a now purring Chairman. Magnus let his magic run through his cat to verify the demon had done no damage. Since the collar activated, he wasn’t too worried about Chairman being scared or traumatized by this incident; it should’ve sent Chairman’s mind into a dream. Still, he needed to make sure. “I don’t usually keep unwanted guests around. By now, I would’ve banished you, so I never know the side effects for you.”
“So I’m free to go then?” Simon asked as he stretched, trying to get used to standing on two legs again.
“No.” Magnus and Raphael both answered.
“Since you missed, I am assuming Raphael was your target,” Magnus reasoned as he glared at the demon. “What did you plan to do once you did possess him?”
“Oh, you know the usual stuff,” Simon answered, looking away. There is no way he could let them know his actual plans; it was already bad enough that he got caught.
“So you planned to cause chaos and play pranks on the vampires of Hotel Dumort?” Raphael growled. “Did someone send you?”
“Well, not exactly,” Simon started to back up and look for an escape route. He had knocked over many of the books and furniture throughout, dodging Raphael in cat form, and his only escape was the window he came from.
“What do you mean not exactly?” Magnus flicked his fingers at the demon and watched a prison form around the demon. “Who sent you?”
“Well, they didn’t exactly send me to the hotel,” Simon gulped and stood still. He didn’t want to find out what would happen if he touched the blue bars around him.
“They send you to New York to cause trouble?” Magnus asked.
Simon looked at the bars and back at the glaring warlock. He was sure his mission was already a failure, so there wasn’t a point anymore.
“I wanted to pet the cat,” Simon sighed and mumbled.
“What?” Raphael questioned, shocked.
“I wanted to pet the cat!” Simon stated clearly. “I was going to possess Raphael and pet your cat.”
“So all this,” Magnus emphasized by pointing to the broken vase and torn drapes. “was because you wanted to pet Chairman Meow?”
“Yes.”
“I’m never pet sitting for you after you get back from vacation,” Raphael declared.
“It’s fine, Chairman prefers Cat,” Magnus snapped his fingers, causing the jail around Simon to dissipate. He pulled Chairman up from the couch chair and into his arms before walking towards the demon. “Go on then.”
Simon looked between the cat and warlock briefly in shock. He didn’t know if this was a trick, and as soon as he touched the cat, he would be hurt. But Simon couldn’t pass up this chance. If not the mission, then at least he was going to pet a cat today. Simon carefully brushed his fingers between both of Chairman’s ears and watched as they twitched from the pets.
“He’s adorable,” Simon whispered.
“Agreed,” Magnus smiled as he kept a close eye on a demon just in case. Chairman’s collar would still activate again if anything happened, but he didn’t want to take a chance. “If this is all you can go back, right?”
“You’re just going to let him go?” Raphael questioned. “He did all this, and you are just going to send him back with a slap on the hand?”
“Trickster demons are harmless; you know that,” Magnus shrugged. “The little demon just got a bit sidetracked.”
“I’m not a little demon!” Simon huffed and immediately regretted it when his new cat friend jumped away. “My name is Simon, and yeah, I will portal straight back to my realm. No need to worry.”
“See, he’s going to be a good little demon and go back home before it even gets dark,” Magnus waved his hands, already making plans to summon his own portal back to his Alexander.
Raphael groaned and sat back down on his couch, glaring at the two people in his room.
“Don’t worry, at least now you will have something new to complain to Chairman about other than your Clan,” Simon teased as he opened a portal to his realm, quickly jumping through as he watched the vampire leader pick up a chair to throw at him. “See you!”
Simon sighed in relief as he stepped through the portal and smiling as he made his way up the Academy steps. He didn’t know if he still had a chance at passing, but he hoped that Prof. Modo would give still approve his first mission. Even if he didn’t, though, at least Simon had petted a cat, and that was worth all the trouble from the mission pass or fail.
