Sleepy rambles pt2, this time tackling maybe why Red Guy likes Duck
When I think about why Red Guy likes Duck, it’s more in terms of why theyre paired up together. And the main reason I think they are is because of their similarities.
Both characters are taught their too much by the narrative. With Red Guy, he’s shown that he would never fit in with people like himself, whether it be his own family or people at the work place. He’s too expressive. Alienated. Duck suffers from a similiar issue. He’s always too fussy or opinionated, meaning he get’s left out from a lot of the lessons like Family, Jobs and Health.
It’s fun that both characters have been featured on a stage. They seem to have a deep need to express themselves, even if the audience is fake versions of them.
However when they’re goals line up, theyre allowed to be expressive. In fact theyre expressive to the point of egotism.
The theme (to me) that connects them, the Big Boys, and the Bigger Boys together, is that they’re entirely focused on themselves and their cynical outlook ‘this is as good as it gets’. They enjoy torturing the experiment, and the big boys enjoy singing and boasting, making them too wrapped up in their interests to understand Yellow Guy.
Regular Red Guy and Duck mirror this. They focus more on things that will directly benefit them. For example how Red Guy can like Transport, but not charged!Yellow and Stain’s adventurous spirit- or how he hates the idea of a job, until that job proves to stroke said ego. He isn’t a fan of things that won’t help him specifically.
They prioritise their own comfort, which is what the transport song sort of showed. We even see it back in the love episode, where they decide to eat a chicken picnic before rescuing Yellow Guy.
So although it sets them apart sometimes sure, their individual self-centredness binds them together.
Tumblr media
ON A SWEETER NOTE. They love their little family deeply, even if Red Guy struggles with realising it.
Often theyre the only two keeping the house from falling apart. And when Yellow Guy’s being abducted into whatever cult, and the teachers are untrustworthy, all they really have is eachother. We see this in Love, Friendship and Electricity.
They also like order and structure, even if it’s on different scales.
(“I thought it was nothing day. I was looking forward to that.”) (“I would like to know what’s supposed to happen today.”)(“What about invoice day?” “No that’s baked in for tomorrow.”) (“I wanted to look at that skeleton.” “Yeah- look, we really don’t have time for this.”) (“Now- hold the newspaper.” “We just sit here and something normally happens.”)(“I’m doing my visual inventory”)(“If you want to look somewhere- just tell me. And i’ll write it down and make a list.”) (“You’ve gone wrong.”“Yeah you don’t- you don’t normally do this.”)
Although Red Guy wants a better life for them, he still enjoys organising it. In Transport he’s already planning out exactly how theyre life will run. (“We’ll go to their house- and theyll come to ours, and they’ll say what they like about it-“)
I think it’s why it was in character for them to dislike Yellow’s batteries. Yellow being overly smart, is not part of their routine, nor is it something they deem as helpful.
As well as being orderly, they take turns being the logical one when the other can’t. They work a bit like a machine- fixing things in conjuction. If Red Guy’s too illogical, Duck will try and reason with him (Jobs, Transport, Family). And when Duck’s losing control, Red Guy will do the same (Computers, Health, Electricity).
Their shared history of QUESTIONING what’s going on, dates back to the beginning of the webseries. Duck would question the teachers, and Red Guy’d question whats actually happening. Often they look at eachother to gage how they feel about a situation, like their glances when warren arrives or when Yellow goes wrong.
Theyre so in sync with control, that Yellow Guy has the illusion theyre in charge of him.
(Although Yellow obviously questions things too, he’s still not on even footing. Red and Duck struggle to understand him, or he ends up trusting others.)
Tumblr media
Red Guy might also admire Duck for their differences.
Big fan of the popular traffic light metaphor here, that Red Guy represents ‘stop’, and Duck represents ‘go’.
If Red Guy’s personal goals aren’t part of it, he doesn’t really want to do anything. He enjoys nothing day, he doesn’t want a job, he prefers to sit and wait for lessons to happen. He hates when the other characters drag him along on unnecessary detours, or don’t stick to the norm.
Duck howevers usually a catalyst. He wants things to do, things he wants to say or achieve, as long as the others are kept safely in his sight. He’s stubborn in his actions, and you see Red Guy support him for this in rare segments.
He shouts in encouragement when Duck grabs Yellows batteries, distracts warren when Duck orders him to, agrees to get his gauging tools, listens to him when he’s anxious in Electricity, agrees to stay for the picnic etc.
So although Duck technically goes against Red Guy’s more laidback lifestyle, he also forces activity into it. He looks up to Red Guy, putting him on the spot sometimes to take action. Which is a great thing considering how bored Red Guy get’s when he’s used to a situation.
He’s a bit of an idealist. He believes the grass is always greener. So when he’s on the other side, he often backtracks (liking the darkness in the house before recognising it’s not that great, the idea of a new friend until he misses Duck, enjoying the concept of travel, until theres nowhere to go).
I don’t think he wants to associate himself with Duck because he’s nonsensical- he’s loud and opinionated- he get’s things wrong. He’s a core part of their life that never seems to make sense but pretends it does, and Red Guy probably doesn’t like that.
But Duck’s dictating attitude might also be something Red Guy loves as well as hates, which is maybe why he switches back and forth between supporting and dismissing him. In Death and Dreams, he seems so entirely uncertain on what he really wants, which is something Duck normally has no problem with.
Whenever Duck’s confident on something, Red Guy’s usually jealous (“You? The dad? Come on-“ “There must be a mistake-“) His insecurities especially show during Jobs, where he changes personality and insists Duck must be the jealous one.
But Duck’s still full of self-love even when scorned, which must be comforting to Red Guy, a character who seems hellbent on appearing normal and being with ‘guys like himself’.
It’s not until Duck’s gone I think, that Red Guy realises he needs him in the life he’s idolising. Duck already sees him and accepts him as he is, and doesn’t fit in either. They stick out together, so there’s no need for Red Guy to keep hold of his pride when theyre alone.
“Really? You like looking at me?” “Yeah… I suppose I do.”
TLDR) Red Guy might like Duck because of Duck’s similarities to himself (his selfishness, his organisation, their even footing, their history together), but also his differences (the variation he adds to their life, his confidence).

28 April 2024
Journalist Abed Alqadr Sabbah documents the last functioning dialysis center in all of north Gaza. The centers at Al-Shifa Hospital and Nour Al-Kaabi Hospital were deliberately destroyed by the occupation, and now the only location with working dialysis machines is Kamal Adwan Hospital, which has also suffered prior attacks. In all of north Gaza, there are only 5 working dialysis machines. Each treatment cycle takes about 4 hours, and patients must receive treatment 3 times a week. There are currently 60 people seeking dialysis at Kamal Adwan, and there is simply not enough time or resources to treat everyone adequately. Patients can now only receive treatment twice a week, meaning they are more likely to go into kidney failure. It is also extremely difficult and dangerous for them to reach the center, making treatment even more hazardous.

All the reports coming from Rafah from the early hours of April 29 are literally identical: "Israel targeted the house of [family name]"
The same title, over and over again.
All within a couple of hours last night, three family homes in Rafah have been struck, killing at least 20, the majority of whom are women and children.
We now know about Project Lavender and we know about Israel's constant surveillance of Gaza so when I tell you that Israel had targeted civilian homes last night in Rafah, you know that there is absolutely no room for questioning Israel's intent here and always.

“can anyone hear me” and “its so dark in here” and “who said that” have got to be some of my fav things to say on a post because it brings to mind being locked in a room or lost in a cave, probably because of what youve said. not being called out in desperation, but in much calmer yet still resigned-to-your-fate way. in the case of “who said that” you’re saying something out the side of your mouth or under your breath, sometimes just fully out loud, then feigning bewilderment to whip around and look behind you. Sometimes in this case you’re in a vast and empty wheat field with no audience anyway. In all cases you’re definitely some sort of madman or loon or otherwise totally bonkers. just a glimpse into how my Posting Interpretation is.

HELPGAZACHILDREN!!!!!
Med @fairuzfan’s blog got terminated by tumblr which is obviously unjust for all the people who rely on them for resources on Palestine, but it now leaves Hussam’s helpgazachildren donation drive without a point of communication, and has deleted all previous information Med had shared about the drive.
Please remember to keep donating to helpgazachildren as Hussam’s hard work getting resources to families in Gaza should not have to be hindered while Med is working on getting their blog back 🤍🇵🇸

So tumblr staff didn't just delete 1 blog of Med's without warning (fairuzfan), they deleted 2. The first blog was helpgazachildren, which was Med's blog to campaign for donation drives for Hussam who distributes basic necessities on the ground in Ghazzah. They have consistently shown proof of acquisition and distribution of goods as results for every donation drive. There is no reason to kill this blog other than to kill the Palestinian children and adults alike that rely on it for survival. Make no mistake, the actions of this company, Tumblr, and its CEO have real life consequences for the people who use it as a lifeline for survival.
That makes up an entire section of the people trying to survive genocide in Ghazzah. And now with both of Med's blogs gone, there is no recourse.
Tumblr is going to be the reason for the death of several Palestinians. And if I'm right in suspecting they're taking my blog down next, this will happen to the groups served by both Mona, and Hussam, and the families who have contacted me through this website and are relying on my fundraising campaigns to get to safety. This is not a minor issue.
