her name is jocelyn woodson and here’s some of the art in question (taken from her insta)
me when i grow up and feel like an entirely different person than i used to be and though i always feared changing and letting go of “what makes me unique” it turns out i was falsely conflating uniqueness and mental illness and i am still happy and still my own person and i’m still me even if i’m more healed than before with better coping skills. and still healing and still learning to cope. i’m still me! and this past weekend i went to an art festival and a middle aged woman’s art resonated with me so profoundly (beautiful large-eyed little girls in soft grungey pastel, patiently moody paintings that felt like i was peering into my own soul) that i tried to buy one of her hand painted cards and apologized that i couldn’t buy more than that and she told me “you’re going to take that card for free and i am not going to hear a word from you about it” so then i walked back around the festival again and when she was not looking i came back and snuck some cash (the price of the card + a tip) on her chair and she caught me because i am not very sly and she grinned and said “hey, wait a minute” and as it began to sprinkle outside i just cackled and ran off, looking behind me at her humored smile, looking behind me at someone who makes me want to grow even older in hopes i’ll become even a little like her someday
