Did you know that in Ancient Israel they didn't fight on shabbat? nowadays Jews now that "פיקוח נפש דוחה שב×Ŗ" But this thing is very new, at old times, Shabbat was on top.
That's why it was rather easy to take over the kingdom...
Daniel waited for 3 stars to be seen that indicates that Shabbat has left.

More Hannukah related content, and now, The tribe of Levi
First off, I've been really happy with my art lately. I've been pushing myself to try new things.
Now, let's talk about Levi.
Before we get into the story, here are a few important things to know: Levi is the smallest tribe of Israel. They were responsible for looking after the faith in Israel and taking care of the holy temple. Even though they didn't have their own territory, the other tribes had to help them out by giving 10% of their money to the Levites.
Levi also had a job keeping an eye on the practice of Judaism, which, spoiler alert, didn't end well for him. He was in charge of the menorah and could go to special places during holidays. Levi would read the Bible to the people every Monday and Friday.
Now, in Hashmonai, things got pretty tense. People in Israel lost trust in Judaism and the Cohen because of some political stuff. Cohens were like Levites but with more power, and the great Cohen was the boss of the Levites. Unfortunately, the great Cohen got corrupt towards the end of Hashmonai.
But Levi just wanted to keep doing his job. He had no choice but to be like a soldier for the Cohen, even though it didn't end well. This led to a surprising twist. The Zadok family, who were Cohens, wanted to be the only great Cohen family. They thought they were better than everyone else. Since all Cohen families were Levites, the Zadok family decided to wipe out all the other Levites to make sure they stayed in charge. The ironic part? The pro-Cohen family ended up killing all the Cohens.
Levi had a terrible ending during the Jewish wars, shot by extremists from his own side. This messed up everything and changed Judaism completely.
Now, Daniel, who saw the Zadokim as extremists and was scared of them, was shocked when they killed Levi, who was on the same side as them. It was heartbreaking. When things started going bad, Levi felt responsible for everything about religion. He couldn't stop different religious groups from doing their own thing. But as a kid, he wasn't used to that kind of stress. He felt like he was losing control, and he did. Before he died, the temple was a mess, and people could come and go as they pleased, even stepping over him. Daniel, who loved Levi but was just a kid, maybe wasn't the best choice for this role.
Levi didn't live to see the Romans steal the menorah. And maybe that's a good thing, according to Daniel. He didn't have to see his life's work used to shame his people. Daniel still thinks about Levi, like a little angel with amazing music skills, who comes to him in tough times, giving him faith.
Levi used to sing, dance, and play in the temple to make everyone feel good and make God happy.

These Days, Those Times
ā€œSir, are you okay?ā€
Okay so this.. this piece Iā€™ve been thinking to do for likeā€¦YEARS. I had this idea in my mind for ages now and Iā€™ve finally did this piece aaa
For this Hanukkah, Iā€™ve decided okay thatā€™s it Iā€™m doing this
Titus gate, is a gate that was built by Rome to celebrate its victory against Hasmonai. Itā€™s a great piece, that symbolizes,for Daniel, the actual existence of these events.
Remember, Daniel denied any existence of Hashmonai, because it was a horrible kingdom, horrible place to be and live in. A horrible kingdom to represent. But the worse part about hashmonai was - itā€™s ending. The ending was horrible, genocide done by Rome, total destruction, and theft. The theft part is the one shown in the gate.
It was a horrible place to be, but it was a home. it was a place where Daniel could call himself a name.
The menorah was Hashmonaiā€™s symbol, and it was, as described, stolen as well. Daniel doesnā€™t remember well the menorah, he remembers it very vaguely, especially because the person who was in charge of the menorah - Levi (A character I will introduce some time later), also died, in a tragic event during the Jewish wars.
When Daniel sees this piece, only then he can remember that day, those years. Only then he can remind himself how great he actually was back then.
He used this piece to remember himself his own symbols and his own culture, when he decided to use the menorah as his coat of arms. To remind himself - this wonā€™t happen again. No one will come and do whatever they want anymore.
This beautiful art piece, is his history. That he tries to suppress so hard, but itā€™s there for everyone to see. How humiliating that was. When he looks at this piece, he feels both empty and fulfilled. Both happiness and sadness.
I donā€™t have much to say tbh, the pic says it all

It's Hanukkah in a few days, which means.. it's time to talk about Hanukkah lore.
first, I want you to erase everything you know about hanukah.
Days Of Hanukkah
Hanukkah is known to be the celebration of light, happiness and victory.
But in reality, the story of hanukkah is much darker.
Kingdom of HashmonaiĀ
Human name: Daniel Ben Yosef
Human age: 18
religion: Cohenity Judaism (early Judaism)
National languages: Hebrew, Aramic, Greek
Independent: 104 BC - 63 AC (but actually 77 years)*
PROLOGUEĀ
Greek takeoverĀ
When Ancient Greece took over the area, they brought with them Hellenism, which already influenced Daniel. Danielā€™s opinion about Hellenism was neutral. Most Jews didnā€™t mind Hellenism, as long as it peacefully coexisted with Judaism, and it did.Ā
Cohenity take overĀ
The Greek empire owed a lot of money to Rome, and the great Cohenā€™s brother back then, he knew. He offered the king of the areal Hellenic kingdom a lot of money in exchange for making him the Cohen.Ā
Judaism is highly against such a thing. Since then people noticed that they could buy the great Cohenā€™s seat and started paying more and more, which led to inside-wars between Cohens, Levians and activists.Ā
The Cohens who kept taking over the seats happened to be pro-Hellenism, which made Hellenism look bad in the eyes of the radical activists. It didnā€™t change Danielā€™s opinion, though. But he did lose his trust towards his Cohens.Ā
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Act i: HanukkahĀ
The Hellenic oppressionĀ
The internal wars inside Judea made them not pay taxes to Greece, which made the king very mad. He came to Judea and demanded the Jews to do very sinful things such as eat pig or work on Shabbat, as well as change their names and such things.Ā
Daniel was mad, and started a revolution. The revolution started from inside, against the current Cohen who brought that on him.Ā
MaccabeeĀ
Maccabee is a Jewish movement that started at those days, their goal was to liberate the Jews from Hellenic oppression. Hashmonai Family, a well known family of activists, started it. They led the revolution, but it mostly failed.Ā
IndependenceĀ
When the Hashmonai family realized that the revolution failed, one of the members of this family physically went to the king and begged for liberation. The king got convinced and let the Jews have their own country.Ā
The Maccabees came back to Jerusalem and cleaned the holy temple from all the dirt and sins that the hellenics did. It made them and Daniel so happy they celebrated for 8 days, which is also the same 8 days of Hanukkah.Ā
Daniel felt like things are getting back to order, he's independent again. but the little he knew about whatā€™s going to happen.Ā
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Act ii: HashmonaiĀ
The civil war continuesĀ
Hashmonai is now an independent kingdom, but the Hashmonai family decided to make Cohenity one with the royal family, the citizens of Hashmonai hate this decision, and revolt once again.Ā
Daniel started to rethink his own religion, and new groups of new religions started to pop, as an alternative to the current Cohenity Judaism. Christianity is one of them. Groups are starting to rewrite some books and write new books, the Talmud andĀ  the Mishna.Ā
Daniel thought this situation is just temporary, and Levi soon will get his power in the temple again. But as soon as he thought so, Hashmonai massacred everyone who attempted to stop the royal family, including levians. Levi, the last tribe to exist as a tribe of Israel was killed, and it officially ended Danielā€™s hope for the temple, his nation and his religion.Ā
Tumblr media
The changes in Judaism
When Levi Died, Daniel realized he wonā€™t be able to continue in the same path anymore. A group of all groups, called haPrushim, were the leading group of the new Judaism. They believed that all Jews should be able to read, write and own their own Bible copy. Since then only a Levian could, but Levi is now dead. This is temporary, until a new alternative to Levi or if there are still Levians alive somewhere, they could take back their place once they can.Ā
Daniel preferred this alternative over the others, which helped this one become the main Judaism branch today.Ā
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Act iii: Roman EmpireĀ
Roman Empire stepping in
Now Rome is in charge, Rome doesnā€™t mind most of the wars inside Hashmonai, but when it becomes too brutal they step in. Rome wants quiet in their territory, thatā€™s their strategy. They cross most leaders (Jesus is one of them), and it escalates as the Jews fight back more.Ā
Daniel wants this to end, so he goes to Rome and asks him to Assassinate the Hashmonai family. Rome is happy to do so, and he does. Hashmonai loses independence as it happens.Ā
Rome was mad with Daniel for being such a pain in the ass, so he started forcing him to do such things as eat pig and work on Shabbat, again. But this time Daniel was tired. He didnā€™t revolt.
Bar kochva revolt
Bar Kochva is a radical guy that Daniel, as well as most of the nation, didn't agree with. He worked alone. He required a small army and tried to fight the Romans. Daniel joined him; he thought he had nothing to lose anyways. But his mistake escalated everything really fast.Ā
End of ancient Israel
As a punishment Rome cut Danielā€™s hair. He knew how much Daniel cares about it. He destroyed the temple, and then kicked Daniel away from Judea to Europe, he changed Judeaā€™s name after a nation in the Bible which is Hebrew means ā€œInvadersā€. The name that Daniel used to call other ancient nations as a mockery is now against him. Also, Rome stole a lot of things from the temple, including the great menorah.Ā
Tumblr media
The days of Daniel as ancient Israel (before the kingdom of Israel to the after kingdom of Hashmonai) is now officially over. Daniel now started his Exile era, and after the exile era, the Modern era.Ā
Who are your favorite city OC's by now??? And why??
I have few Israeli city ocs, but I think my ultimate favorite is Tiberias / Galia ā¤ļø
Tumblr media
First, I really like her design, and secondly,
Tiberias is opine if the oldest cities in the world, with very rich history. She had a very important role during the Jewish wars, which is also my favorite era to talk about in my lore.
Sheā€™s quirky, smart, but also very modest and kind. The ultimate Jewish mother šŸ„¹
ā€œJerusalem of goldā€ is the name of that jewelry, looks like Jerusalem walls and it made of gold (obviously lmao) Usually was a status symbol for women (but I do what I want) in ancient Israel especially around end of kingdom of Judea and kingdom of Hashmonai
I just watched Golda, the amazing production movie about Kippur war of 1973. I love seeing accurate representation of Israel and its history in a non Israeli production. The movie was amazing, great filmography. I recommend.
1973 is one of my favorite events to write about in Daniel's lore. so much things happened here. it is one of his steps in the phases of grief.
when he moved to total denial to sadness, is this war. this war reminded him that he is not invincible. He has flaws, and a lot of them.
during the war itself, he was something in between the denial phase and the sadness phase, which created this kind of stubbornness that he showed.
especially when talking to Alfred, during this time, he had this "respect and suspect" relationship with him. reminder, its the Cold War.
Alfred actually appreciated when Daniel could put his foot down...
this quote is from the movie, and it shows so well Golda's personality, and also, Daniel's during that time.
