Chapter 257 Fight Choreography PbP
A play by play of chapter 257.
Yuji vs. Sukuna
Tumblr media
Sukuna and Yuji stare each other down. Sukuna grabs at Yuji, throwing a dismantle at the same time and slashing Yuji's face; in turn, Yuji prepares a punch.
Tumblr media
Yuji bypasses Sukuna's remaining right arm and black flashes him in the gut!
Tumblr media
Yuji shoulder taps Sukuna and even that was a black flash! Sukuna's upper right arm seems to have been repelled by Yuji's shoulder tap.
Tumblr media
After a short stare down, Sukuna throws Yuji. When he lands near the columns, Yuji grabs one and cleaves it apart.
Tumblr media
Yuji throws the cleaved pillar, but Sukuna prepares to counter it with his foot just as soon as it leaves Yuji's hand.
Tumblr media
Sukuna cleaves the pillar and Yuji's right arm with his left foot, but the cuts are shallow. Yuji grabs his left foot and cleaves him in return!
Similar to 252, Sukuna uses the debris to hide himself as he attacks. He ends this sequence with dismantles to Yuji's face.
Tumblr media
Sukuna slashed Yuji, then punched him. Yuji weathers the slashes with no issue and black flashes Sukuna in the side.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ino finally releases his dragon, taking Sukuna off guard as it smashes him into the wall.
Tumblr media
Sukuna sends multiple slashes that swiftly rip the dragon apart at the same time that Ino jumps into the fray with no fear, facing him without Yuji present. Sukuna stops Ino by stepping on Nanami's cursed tool, but Yuji appears with Jajanken prepared!
Tumblr media
Yuji's Jajanken black flashes Sukuna! The punch launches Sukuna threw the window.
The black flash that ended Mahito was also a Jajanken.
Tumblr media
Sukuna slashes the ground, just as he did against Maki last chapter. Yuji avoids the ground as Sukuna punches him, slashing his side like he did in 256. Yuji ignores the damage and grabs Sukuna's arm.
Tumblr media
Yuji punches Sukuna into the wall. Sukuna's picking up on something being wrong with his slashes* as Yuji continues to ignore the dismantles flying in his face.
Tumblr media
Yuji lands another black flash into Sukuna's stomach, and Sukuna grabs his face to cleave it.
Tumblr media
Yuji now matches Sukuna's missing half of his face, and they even have opposing mouth scars. Yuji black flashes Sukuna in the eye for good measure.
Tumblr media
Yuji's chained black flashes pisses Sukuna off! Even so, Ino throws Nanami's weapon and throws him off guard once again while Yuji prepares Jajanken.
Tumblr media
Yuji appears behind Sukuna one last time and upper cuts him in the back!
Notes:
I'm being silly with calling Yuji's punch Jajanken, but that's obviously what Gege's making a callback too here.
It's likely that Yuji and Sukuna's slashes were both so weak against one another because their cursed technique, Shrine, shares Sukuna's cursed energy. Yuji inherited Shrine because he's steeped in Sukuna's cursed energy. I also acknowledge that Yuji's output is low because he's only recently awakened Shrine.
Tumblr media
Note that Jin has been reincarnated into Sukuna's twin. Yuji would be Sukuna's newphew. Yet, because jujutsu sees twins as one person, Sukuna could arguably also be considered Yuji's father.
Thank you Significant-Ad-1655 and Asian_Persuasion_1 for your notes and helping me make sense of some things.

This Fandom's Exploitation of Doubt
There exists a certain group of people within the fandom that thrive on spreading misinformation, and apparently just for the Hell of it.
These people find moments where there may be cause to doubt Gege's obvious implications and solely argue against another proposed position to no real end. These arguments exist for their own sake, to exploit the doubt Gege's subtle and subtextual writing allows, and to ultimately shutdown any cohesive thought within discussions. When put under scrutiny, these arguments simply rely on the basis of the same doubt that birthed these ideas and the fact that Gege didn't outright say something.
They don't add anything useful to the discussion and instead impede other people from talking about certain aspects of the story, either to avoid these retaliatory comments, or out of the confusion they cause. These types of arguments seek to silence rather than engage.
An example of the ones I hate the most:
Tumblr media
"This translation was actually changed to "You've piqued my interest Megumi Fushiguro," so Sukuna couldn't have gotten the idea to use Mahoraga to adapt to Limitless, and Gojo was sealed by then anyway!"
As if Sukuna wasn't inside Yuji literally listening to them all craft a plan to free Gojo.
Tumblr media
"Kenjaku didn't know that Sukuna would change vessels so this obvious hint at something means nothing anymore, Gege just wanted to add to the Sukuna and Yuji parallels for no real reason."
Tumblr media
"Maki couldn't have survived a black flash from Sukuna, it got shown three times! I have no reason to believe she can survive that, she's clearly dead!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Sukuna used a chant empowered dismantle, which he could have used the entire fight but decided not to until the very end, even though he said himself World Dismantle would be his last resort and goal if he undid HWB."
To be fair, I understand the confusion of the Yuta and Maki World Dismantle debacle, and that confusion can be innocent enough. Though, there are some that blatantly ignore evidence and clarity when presented to them. They twist story details and blatantly lie to deny evidence of Sukuna using WD. To what end? Why? What does it solve?
Tumblr media
"Yuji didn't eat the cursed wombs because Gege didn't show it. Huh? He has Blood Manipulation now? How'd that happen?"

What Can Aristotle Reveal About Gege's Magic System? A Lot, Actually
TLDR: Sukuna and Maki represent the dichotomy "sorcery versus the body." Yuji represents Gege's aim, or the essence of Jjk's power system by having qualities of both Sukuna and Maki. Yuji parallels Sukuna as a sort of twin soul, and Maki by being physically gifted. I use Aristotle to argue that to find the essence of jujutsu, Sukuna must defeat Yuji and Maki who possess physical gifts. Maki especially because of her HR which rejects sorcery.
I have argued at length in multiple posts now about the dichotomy that Sukuna and Maki represent. I have shown how their characters relate to one another, and that they both exist within the story as calamities. Maki possesses the traits of Sukuna's definition of strength without becoming incapable of love like he has; in turn, Sukuna demonstrates what it looks like for a character to be an unloving monster. Yet, I admit that my analyses about these two have excluded Yuji, which has left a void within my arguments about Jujutsu Kaisen's power system. I hope for this post to fill that void, for my own sake and others'. By examining Gege's power system in the framework of Aristotle's Metaphysics, I will explore the roles that Sukuna, Maki, and Yuji all play within Jujutsu Kaisen along the magical spectrum of sorcery versus the body.
Tumblr media
Why am I referring to Aristotle, and what does he have to do with anime? Not much! Yet, Aristotle's Metaphysics provides a wonderful framework to understand Gege's power system as it's represented by Sukuna, Maki, Yuji, Kenjaku, and Yuki. All of these characters relate to one another in some way, and they all demonstrate or argue the overarching conflict within JJK: sorcery versus the body. Yuki desires a world free from cursed energy, and Kenjaku wants to see cursed energy in its wildest and most dominant form via the merger. Maki acts as Yuki's prime research subject, and has been since her childhood. Sukuna similarly acts as Kenjaku's champion, who he entrusted the merger to after his defeat. I argue that Yuji was created by Gege (and by extension, Kenjaku) to possess qualities of both extremes that Sukuna and Maki represent. To explain my argument, I will use Humphrey's description of Aristotle's natural philosophy:
Aristotle claims that the matter of perceptible things has no separate existence but is always already informed by a contrary (Gen et Corr.329a25–27). The matter that traditional natural philosophy calls the “elements”—fire, water, air, and earth—already has the form of the basic contraries, hot and cold, and moist and dry, so that, for example, fire is matter with a hot and dry form (Gen et Corr.330a25–b4). Thus, even in the most basic cases, matter is always actually informed, even though the form is potentially subject to change. For example, throwing water on a fire cools and moistens it, and bringing about a new quality in the underlying material. Thus, Aristotle sometimes describes natural powers as being latent or active “in the material” (Meteor.370b14–18). (Humphreys, Justin 14-5).
Aristotle argues that all things in the material realm possess within them an inherit essence, or nature, that determines its existence.* Meaning, all things can be defined by its nature. Though, such an argument begs the question, how does one find a thing's nature? Where does its essence reside? Aristotle then argues that to find the thing's nature, one must seek its opposite. How does one find the essence and limits of jujutsu? Two sorcerers of the the highest caliber, Sukuna and Gojo, simply use the rules of the magic system that both already understand. Thematically, Sukuna and Gojo represent the oldest discourse in the book: sorcery versus sorcery. Though, as Sukuna himself argues, the limits of jujutsu will truly be revealed by the battle, the duty, that Maki presents to him: sorcery versus the body. Aristotle would agree with Sukuna that for him to discover his own limits, and the essence of jujutsu, he needs to best Maki once and for all.
Tumblr media
Maki's power, due to her being without jujutsu sorcery, gets informed or emphasized by the sheer number of characters capable of magic. Her strength and ability to go up against Sukuna and successfully suffer his entire arsenal demonstrates the contradicting relationship between sorcery and the body. She effectively repels Sukuna's power that he's devoted his entire being to. Toji broke fate for the first time in known history and allowed Kenjaku to begin his ludicrous plan to merge all of Japan with Tengen. What will Maki break in order to end a fated cycle? How will she defy jujutsu sorcery just as Toji once did?
Tumblr media
Ultimately, the dichotomy represented by Sukuna and Maki, the contradictory relationship between sorcery and the body, both materializes and symbolizes the nature of Gege's power system itself; therefore, as the character who possesses qualities of both monsters, Yuji acts as Gege's aim or essence of balance within the system. In my argument, I am referring to Menn's analysis that Aristotle's use of the literal word ""aim". . . . translates Greek σκοπός, the principal object of a science, to which everything else the science discusses must be related (so health is the σκοπός of medicine. . .)" (1). Gege uses Yuji to demonstrate the two extremes of his power system, sorcery and the body's strength. Yuji represents Jujutsu Kaisen's σκοπός, its magic system's aim and principle dichotomy repeated through different characters: sorcery versus the body.
Tumblr media
As I have argued above, Yuji was one of Kenjaku's experiments with cursed energy and the body. He has made it clear that Yuji was created with the purpose of being linked to Sukuna and hosting him.
Tumblr media
Sukuna and Yuji sharing the same body resembles Maki and Mai's relationship: one with lots of cursed energy and power, and the other with very little. Though, Sukuna has both cursed energy and strength. The narrator specifies the power of Sukuna's physique as an important element, meaning both his body's strength and its structure.* Sukuna barely budged against Rika and Yuji's combined attacks. No matter how much the both of them punched, kicked, or even threw him, Sukuna kept his composure by maintaining Hollow Wicker Basket, and overwhelming them both with his own strength. Though, again, Sukuna represents the strongest model of jujutsu, and therefore what a sorcerer's strength amounts to. At the other end of the Aristotelian spectrum of Gege's power system, Maki overpowered Sukuna in a battle of strength when she threw him twice: once in Megkuna's body, and again as Heian Sukuna. Yuji possesses incredible strength, but has yet to overpower Sukuna and therefore Maki. He rests somewhere between the both of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wager that Yuji’s story will end with him being connected to Sukuna. He will likely attempt to sacrifice himself to stop Sukuna, as he planned to do for Megumi anyway. Kenjaku declared that as long as Yuji and Sukuna exist, bad things will keep happening. Since birth, Yuji has been tied to Sukuna and remains the only person who can host him without immediately losing control. Even if circumstances may not demand it from him, Yuji would likely jump to the opportunity to sacrifice himself for Megumi and everyone else.
I believe that, in the end, Sukuna's enchain vow acts as a metaphorical chain linking him to Yuji. Kenjaku’s statement about Sukuna and Yuji being intertwined (the chain of curses) supports my reading of the enchain vow. The word chain produces an idea of the two of them being linked to one another. Because the enchain vow started the series of events within Shinjuku, the two of them linked by it will have to end it as well.
Maki, as the antithesis of sorcery, has the power to break the link between Yuji and Sukuna. I argue that her importance within the story's end will be to help Yuji escape Sukuna's clutches once and for all, breaking the fate that Kenjaku has set for his creations. While Toji inadvertently aided Kenjaku in his plans, Maki will purposely stop them. The soul striking duo will take on Sukuna and finally end him.
While applying Aristotle's Metaphysics to the power system within Jujutsu Kaisen, I have argued that Gege's purposely using Sukuna, Yuji, and Maki to show a spectrum of strength. Gege uses Sukuna and Maki as the two extremes of the system's rules, jujutsu and that which rejects it; they represent a dichotomy present throughout the story: sorcery versus the body. Yuji instead rests between the both of them and acts as Gege's aim, or σκοπός, and exists as a literal representation of the dichotomy that Sukuna and Maki present within the power system. I argue that Maki and Yuji will work together as a soul striking duo to end Sukuna.
Below is a gallery of visual parallels between the three of them with some descriptions.
Visual Parallels Between Sukuna, Yuji, and Maki
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yuji, Sukuna, and Maki have been referenced as monsters.
Each of them, in the final fight, have been depicted with shadows covering them. I argue Gege's purposely committing visual parallels between the three of them to further extend this monstrous connection they all share.

Notes:
I know that this is dense, I promise I do, but I have done my best to break these ideas down into a readable and accessible state. I just hope that anyone reading any part of this walks away with something, anything lol. I really appreciate you for reading any part of it, especially the entire post.
The physique point: I am aware that this could be a translation faux pas or error, so keep that in mind. Though, the point remains that Sukuna's clearly physically strong as Hell.
The chains linking Sukuna and Yuji:

Secret's out...I've a minor in Philosophy. The plot thickens.
This thesis will have follow up parts, but this was so long anyway that I cut it very short. I'll instead release multiple posts using this Aristotelian framework.

While this is quite random, I 100% agree with op!
Tumblr media
not a parallel but I fully believe Nobara could've torn Toji to pieces with her words like she would absolutely massacre the man who feels no shame until the only thing he's capable of feeling is depressed and she would never admit it but she'd punt him into space to keep him away from Megumi ❤️

Chapter 251 Fight Choreography PbP
Tumblr media
Yuta reveals that Rika swallowed the final, missing finger that Sukuna had inferred to be in Gojo's possession. Even though Sukuna caught the blade, Yuta was still able to release the cursed technique within it.
Tumblr media
Yuji immediately follows up Yuta's cleave with a punch to the face. Sukuna's hardly phased. Yuta then palm thrusts Sukuna's stomach mouth.
Tumblr media
Yuji then grabs Sukuna head and knees him to the face this time, yet Sukuna's still unphased. He quickly grabs Yuji in return and cleaves his entire torso!
Tumblr media
Yuji uses that damage to spit his blood into Sukuna's face, setting up his future attack. Yuta quickly uppercuts Sukuna right after. Once again, Sukuna, Yuji, and Yuta all go blow for blow!
Tumblr media
After consecutive hits from Yuji, Sukuna notices the toll it takes on his soul's grasp over Megumi's body. Rika joins in again and lifts Sukuna with ease, throwing him into a kick from Yuji! Despite all of this, Sukuna keeps his hands clasped, maintaining Hollow Wicker Basket, and ultimately, his composure.
Tumblr media
Yet, Sukuna suddenly beings undoing his hands, and all three act immediately.
Tumblr media
Yuta reaches into Sukuna's stomach mouth and rips out the tongue. He suffers a direct cleave to the head, but Yuta keeps fighting regardless.
Tumblr media
Yuta quickly slashes the top mouth before Sukuna sends dismantles at him. Still, Yuta heals and keeps fighting, shaking off the damage while closing in for more attacks. At the same time, Sukuna notices something wrong.
Tumblr media
The blood Yuji spit onto him begins to burst across his face! While he's distracted, Yuta takes Sukuna's bottom left arm.
Tumblr media
Rika and Yuji grab Sukuna's remaining arms and Yuta finally activates Jacob's Ladder.
Tumblr media
Check notes for added information regarding everything after this page.
Yuta quickly uncasts JL then slices through Sukuna bottom right arm. After he and Rika stepped out the way of JL, Yuji quickly runs up to Sukuna, who's caught by Rika yet again.
Tumblr media
After multiple punches and a JL, Sukuna and Megumi's souls were separated enough for Yuji to finally help Megumi awaken.
Tumblr media
Off-screen, Sukuna heals his top mouth and performs the enmaten hand sign.
Tumblr media
While Yuji was inside Megumi’s soul, Sukuna broke free from Rika’s grasp using slashes, then performed the hand sign. When the perspective switched back, Sukuna had already chanted, and Gege now shows him aiming at Yuta, then firing off dismantles against Rika and Yuji. The final panel doesn’t depict Sukuna breaking free from Rika’s grasp; he’s instead doing a victory pose. Which sounds wild, but Gege shows Sukuna’s right hand turned up, no longer aiming at Yuta by the end of the swift sequence of events.
Also, notice how Rika's been torn down the middle!
Tumblr media
Maki enters the barrier immediately after Yuta breaks it, surprising a celebrating Sukuna who thought he'd eliminated Gojo's two favorite students.
Notes:
Looking back, it makes sense why the narrator said Sukuna was making a "desperate gamble." If Sukuna let the fight go on any longer and Yuji just kept hitting him, he would have been put in an even greater disadvantage. Even though he was most unphased by Yuji's punches, his soul was still slipping from Megumi's body. He really was desperate.
A controversial chapter. Was it world dismantle? If so, how did Sukuna perform it? This is only my take and has already been criticized elsewhere. I apologize for not having more information to give other than my own understanding of Gege's purposefully messy depiction of action. In the end, I do think Gege meant for the last few events in this chapter to be fast and messy. Perhaps he had the two different narrative voices saying "Sukuna's going to use world dismantle" to let readers know what was happening, in spite of the confusion he knew the last few pages would cause.
Other than that, the chapter's action was pretty straightforward.

Yes, Sukuna Used World Dismantle
It is ludicrous to say Sukuna used anything other than World Dismantle against Yuta and Maki. Gege uses Sukuna's chants and aim to notify readers that he has used the world cutting slash. Whenever Gojo used chants to amplify his techniques, Gege used the narrator to explicitly state that. Gege has never had the narrator note Sukuna's use of a chant to amplify dismantles, and instead has only used the narrative voice to specify when Sukuna's used the world slash, or state his intention to do so.
Tumblr media
Sukuna only refers to World Dismantle from being prohibited. Not any type of "amped dismantle."
Tumblr media
Again, the narrator reiterates Sukuna's need to use World Dismantle, NOT any type of chant amped slash. Nowhere within the narrative does the narrator, Sukuna, nor any other character mention Sukuna amping the power of a regular dismantle with chants.
On the other hand, each time Gojo used chants to amplify his techniques, the narrator mentioned it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first time Gege depicted a technique being amplified by a chant, the narrator informs the reader that they can ba used to strengthen them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here, the narrator notes that Gojo's chant changed the scale of the spark released by Gojo's red. In other words, Gege remarked that the chant empowered red.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, the narrator reiterates that Gojo's chant restored blue's cursed energy output, further emphasizing the usage of the chant to amplify the technique.
Gege makes a concerted effort to inform the reader when a chant has been used to amplify an ability. When comparing the narrator's information about Gojo's chants and Sukuna's use of World Dismantle, one can see obvious similarities: Gege uses the narrative voice to inform readers of the specifics and facts regarding cursed techniques. While the idea of the narrator being a factual source may seem obvious, for some reason, readers on the sub have turned against the narrator. Instead, some in the subs ignore Gege's explicit language and argue that Sukuna did not fire off WD against Yuta and Maki. I instead argue that if it were a simple amped dismantle, Gege would say so, just as he did all three times Gojo did exactly that.
Mechanics for World Dismantle
Tumblr media
The binding vow that Sukuna created added the aim function to World Dismantle’s prerequisites. Gege adds these details here to signify to the reader that any time we’ve seen Sukuna chant and aim a dismantle, he was using the world slash. After Sukuna showed all three requirements during his fight with Kashimo, Gege likely took the liberty to skip repeated demonstrations.
I refute the idea that there’s a “chant amped dismantle” because Sukuna has never used that kind of technique before, and Gege depicts the World Dismantle the same way every time it’s used. Each time Sukuna chants, Gege makes a big deal of showing its destructive power to exaggerate World Dismantle's strength.
The First Two
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To be fair, Gege hardly shows Sukuna performing the hand sign here. Sukuna's hands aren't emphasized, but instead the chants and aiming have been.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, Gege emphasizes both the chant and the following destructive power of the WD. I argue that Gege emphasizes the chant to inform the reader that whenever Sukuna speaks it, he's using the same technique.
Against Yuta
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yuta obviously takes out both of Sukuna's mouths in these two pages. He follows up by taking out two of Sukuna's hands as well.
Tumblr media
While Yuji was meeting with Megumi, Sukuna healed off screen and made the hand signs to fire WD. Gege has to have had Sukuna perform actions off screen because Sukuna healed his top mouth so that he could say the chant for WD.
Tumblr media
Here, Gege again uses visual indicators to emphasize WD's power against Yuta and the difference in Sukuna's slashes. Against Yuta, you can see that the slash completely went through him because there's blood on the other side of his back. Yuji was not also hit with WD because his splashes of blood do not go all the way through him, and he's cut at a different angle. If it were the same slash used against Yuta, Yuji would be cut in the same line and not one parallel to Yuta.
The likely chain of events that explains why they were all cut up when the pages leave Yuji's pov:
While Yuji was inside Megumi's soul, Sukuna broke free from Rika's grasp using slashes, then performed the hand sign. When the perspective switched back, Sukuna had already chanted, and Gege now show's him aiming at Yuta, then firing off dismantles against Rika and Yuji. The final panel doesn't depict Sukuna breaking free from Rika's grasp; he's instead doing a victory pose. Which sounds wild, but Gege shows Sukuna's right hand turned up, no longer aiming at Yuta by the end of the swift sequence of events.
Against Maki
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looking closely at the first page, behind the debris' onomatopoeia, there the first two lines for Sukuna's World Dismantle can be seen. Again, Gege emphasizes the destructive strength of the attack, signaling it's the real thing. Sukuna also seems to be aiming. Just like with Kashimo and Higuruma, Gege focused less on depicting the hand signs and more of the chant and destruction to signify that Sukuna's used world dismantle.
The Real Amped Dismantle?
Three times throughout the entire fight, Sukuna has brought his left hand up to his right arm while he aims with his right hand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sukuna grabs the right arm with his left hand. Then, he aims his dismantle at the building behind Gojo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sukuna makes an effort to distance himself between Yuta, Rika, and Yuji so that he has room to perform the same exact motion against the three of them. Later, Sukuna remarks that their rct helped them survive his stronger dismantles, and that he needs to land a cleave to do serious damage.
Tumblr media
After trying his amped dismantle, and seeing how both Yuta and Yuji survived it, he began reevaluating how much power he'd need to expend to kill them.
Tumblr media
Sukuna makes the same pose here. Even without a left hand, he makes the effort bring his left arm in and aim. There's an obvious significance to this pose, and I argue it amplifies his dismantles.
Gege uses explicit language each time Gojo's chants amplified his techniques, yet has never done that for Sukuna. Instead, Gege uses the narrator to say that Sukuna's using the WD in reference to three of four uses of his chants. Gege never has a character, nor the narrator, say that Sukuna's chants simply empower his dismantle. I find it clear and obvious that Gege means to communicate that Sukuna's "scale of the dragon, recoil, twin meteors" and aiming means world dismantle has been fired.
Notes:
The victory pose also coincides with the narrator's statement that Sukuna was too proud in that moment, which left him wide open against Maki.
Tumblr media
As Soft_Employment1425 said in another post: There’s conjecture but the broader points were stated in the manga. Regarding intentions, I respect Gege’s writing enough to take his ideas to their logical conclusion.

Chapter 250 Fight Choreography PbP
A play by play of Yuta, Rika, and Yuji vs. Sukuna.
Tumblr media
In 249, Yuta began the fight with a Thin Ice Breaker; in this chapter, he continues by using Dhruv's cursed technique on the miniature Rikas. The small Rikas crate a domain or spatial path invisible to Sukuna; Yuji follows up Yuta's attack with some punches.
Tumblr media
Rika crashes down from above with a punch!
Tumblr media
Sukuna walks into the path left from Dhruv's CT as Yuta uses sky manipulation to throw Sukuna off-balance and the three of them prepare the next attack.
Tumblr media
Yuta begins casting Uro's sky technique again, hiding himself from Sukuna.
Tumblr media
Rika throws Yuji towards Sukuna. Yuta reappears in Sukuna's blind spot, stops using sky manipulation, and picks up the sword containing cursed speech.
Tumblr media
Sukuna stops both Yuta and Yuji's attacks, and even Yuji's kick affects Sukuna's soul. Yuji holds Sukuna's arm, trying to give Yuta an opening to attack.
Tumblr media
Sukuna uses dismantles to parry Yuta's swings while also preparing to cleave Yuji! He uses both applications of his slashes on two different targets at the same time.
Tumblr media
Yuta stops Sukuna, finally using the cursed speech within the sword, and quickly grabs another blade containing Uro's CT.
Tumblr media
Yuta sends Sukuna flying and Rika catches him with two punches, squeezing Sukuna between her fists, but he sustains and blocks it; Rika then prepares another attack before Sukuna can react.
Tumblr media
Rika smashes down on Sukuna's head while Yuji and Yuta race to catch up to them. Sukuna's seemingly unharmed and makes distance between himself and the others.
Tumblr media
With more distance between them, Sukuna has room to perform his amped dismantles* while Rika prepares to attack from above once again.
Tumblr media
Sukuna finally catches Rika on the third punchj. He kicks her face back while he uses cleave on her right hand then retreats backward.
Tumblr media
Yuta, Yuji, and Rika all surround Sukuna! Rika prepares a left hook this time; Yuta readies Charles' CT which allows him to draw the future. Yuji punches Sukuna some more.
Tumblr media
Yuta immediately produces a depiction of the future and dodges Sukuna while punching him in the face.
Tumblr media
Rika has recovered her fingers and attacks with her right hand again while Yuji palm thrusts Sukuna away. Yuta grabs the sword containing Uro's CT, maneuvers around Sukuna, finds a sword containing cleave, then prepares the attack.
Tumblr media
Yuta positions himself directly in front of Sukuna while Yuji moves out of the way. Yuta continues using sky manipulation to throw Sukuna off-balance as he closes in for one more attack.
Tumblr media
Yuta hits Sukuna with cleave.
Note:
Take note that Yuta's domain allows him to bypass the five minute copy and unrestraint CE restriction, but his CTs become random and placed within the katana. Because he has to use a katana for the CTs, Gege includes so many panels of Yuta picking up Katanas.
A way to identify cleave: Sukuna will make direct contact to the target. Gege includes a certain onomatopoeia/sound effect to depict it's damage. Compare the cleave used against Rika to the one Yuta uses. Gege only showed one effect for Yuta's to signify how little damage it did, and inversed its color from Sukuna's.
As noted by Significant-Ad-1655: on the seventh page in this post, Sukuna may have been deflecting Yuta's blade with his bare hands.
As noted by Asian_Persuasion_1: the dismantles performed where Sukuna thrust his fingers out may or may not be amplified. I believe so mostly because of the effort Sukuna took to perform this specific pose.
Thank you Significant-Ad-1655 and Asian_Persuasion_1 for your notes and helping me make sense of some things.

Chapter 256 Fight Choreography PbP
A play by play of the fight this chapter.
Tumblr media
Maki fights Sukuna in melee while Yuji and Choso prepare to trap Sukuna with a nearby rail. Choso seems to kick the rail up, then without exchanging words, Yuji understands the play and catches it, aiming for Sukuna while he dodges Maki's stabs at him.
Tumblr media
Yuji pins Sukuna while Choso prepares piercing blood at point blank range. Sukuna blitzed them both! He basically flies up and out of the way.
Tumblr media
Within the time it took for Sukuna to escape Yuji and Choso, Maki has already circled around and snuck Sukuna. He catches her blade again but she pressures him, so he then sends slashes all around without movement (like he did against Kusakabe recently, but as his webbed attack).
Tumblr media
Maki and Sukuna fight midair at an extreme speed after Sukuna's slashes destroyed the ground. Sukuna breaks the deadlock with a third black flash.
Tumblr media
Sukuna tries to finish the job this time by adding dismantles to his attack against Maki, who was still stunned after the black flash. Maki recognizes that Sukuna's strength has begun to return. In the last panel, you can see Choso prepare his blood as Sukuna sends slashes to Maki.
Tumblr media
Choso uses the time Sukuna took to send those slashes to make a counter attack! Yet, Sukuna reacts extremely fast, sending extra dismantles towards Choso as a distraction, then he moves faster than his own attack. He catches Choso by the back of the shirt.
Tumblr media
Sukuna throws Choso into the wall and black flashes him!
Tumblr media
Choso uses the blood from both his stomach and that which he spit up from his mouth to encase Sukuna's arm. Yuji catches up to Choso's position and takes the opening to attack!
Tumblr media
Choso hands over converged blood* to Yuji, that he will later use for his piercing blood.
Tumblr media
Yuji attempts to knee Sukuna, repeating the attack from the Yuta battle, and Sukuna catches him yet again. Yuji grabs onto Sukuna, forcibly bending him and preparing to attack.
Tumblr media
Yuji nearly misses, but sets up Choso to possibly poison Sukuna, which may come into play later.
Tumblr media
Sukuna uses dismantles to get Yuji off of him, but Yuji begins to prepare his own attack, mirroring Sukuna's black flash punch from earlier in the chapter.
Tumblr media
Yuji finally lands a black flash after Larue distracted Sukuna for a prolonged period, similar to Todo in Shibuya at the end of the Mahito fight.
Notes:
I may make this a regular thing.
This post will be updated if I missed something. Please let me know.
Would converged blood be the correct phrasing for this?
I want to point out that Sukuna uses dismantles to parry Maki's blade. He can apparently still create small dismantles with his severed arms. Though, Sukuna may be using his right arm to send slashes.
As noted by u/Asian_Persuasion_1, Sukuna may have been preparing to slam Yuji into the ground before Yuji prevented it by grabbing his neck.
u/k-tax noted that as Choso prepped Supernova, Sukuna may have been preparing to fire even more dismantles at Maki.
u/RicoNancy pointed out that Sukuna has already been shown to be immune to Junpei's poison, so Choso's blood may not work. Though, take this with a grain of salt.
