knightofvanity:
Emma became flirty, which came more naturally to her around Adolph. They weren’t dating; Merlin knows they were above that kind of social construct, but it was just something in their dynamic that wanted his attention on her always. It was strange, but Emma didn’t mind it. And their other relationship, the one under the table…an arrangement that was convenient for them both.
Watching him list off the orders, Emma rested her head on her hand and sighed a little. The moment was good, almost golden. The atmosphere, the music…it was easing the knot that the girl always seemed to carry around. One that wouldn’t go away, ever. It came with her maturity, well beyond her years, really. The warmth of his leg, and their proximity gave her the chance to move her own legs against his. She wondered if there were any cameras waiting for them in the restaurant. She wondered if she could get away with some things, deep dark desires here.
“Nope. But I’m glad you say so. I couldn’t be bothered with a nine to five job, if I’m being honest. Quidditch is freedom, I say.”
“Hm,” he hummed, considering. Why wouldn’t he have mentioned this before? Probably a result of his aversion to sentiment, he expected. Ah, well - some things didn’t warrant mentioning. “You say that as though my 9-to-5 job doesn’t seem to allow me all the free time I demand,” he chided, as joking as he got.
He smiled nonetheless, a little thing that anyone else might miss. Of course, Emma knew him better than anyone, she wouldn’t miss it unless she wasn’t looking at him. He glanced around, considering. So far the place lived up to his standards. “So, when does the next season start again? Or when does this one finish?”

Serena gave a disgusted look at the fountain. “I’ve swam in Mediterranean waters, I don’t plan on swimming in that disgusting fountain. It’s far too…viscoso.” Her attention went back to him, “I admire that. Personally I avoid paper myself.” Serena’s lips formed into a smirk, “If I get my way, which I usually do, I’ll have some official contacts by the time I leave today.” Brushing her hair over her shoulder, “Maybe I’ll even try some of the coffee. Emma says I should be more adventurous in my tastes.”
Tumblr media
“Picky, picky,” he chided without any heat. While he had no doubts that the fountain water would be unpleasant, in a pinch, it could potentially prevent a crisis - but such a situation seemed unlikely to hit the Ministry any time soon. He lifted an eyebrow, apparently amused by her confidence. Of course, the ‘higher ranks’ of the Ministry were full of those who would pander to the whims of any beautiful, rich woman who demanded their attention. “Only try the coffee if you fancy an excuse for avoiding the meetings. Emma is usually right - but she also doesn’t have to drink Ministry-approved caffeine. There are rumours that it is tainted by experimental potioneers. The muggle café’s around the visitor entrance are much less deadly.” His gaze flitted above her head for a moment, that and his momentarily tensed jaw a sign of his disbelief in his own statement.

Great Blue Heron | by KevinChildress | http://ift.tt/1CqF0Z7
Patronus: Heron
Why: The heron is shrewd, intelligent, and very determined. Whatever the heron wants, it gets. It is at home in any setting; those with a heron are skilled in multiple different areas and are extremely confident of this. The heron is additionally associated with aggression, independence, self-determination and self-reliance. Adolph’s personality consists of all of these,
Memory: Adolph delights in casting his patronus at every opportunity. The memory he uses to produce this bit of light magic varies. In a quick moment, any old memory of examples of family loyalty or Emma will do. He likes to experiment with using darker memories, just to see if he can get something malicious to enable something pure. Mary’s assault hasn’t yet been one of those memories (although the look on Bellatrix's face when she found out has been), but officially joining the Knights is strong enough to produce a corporeal patronus.

“I’m fairly certan the most ‘open’ you’ll get in this building is climbing in the fountain - which seems far too classless for someone of your social calibre.” Considering, he nodded. “You’re not wrong. Most departments are veritable seas of paperwork - I don’t have to deal with that, fortunately. Paperwork is an ‘unnecessary risk’ to the classified aspects of Unspeakable work.” He was fine with that; paperwork was horrid. “You’d do better to have officials as contacts, I expect.” It was a method the Prophet and Witch Weekly seemed fond of, at any rate.

While his gaze may have turned to their environment, hers stayed on him. “I prefer more openness than this. Though, in England, the weather generally doesn’t permit that.” She sighed, checking her watch, “Though I was referring to the bureaucratic and political stance most employees here take. It goes against my work.”

“I wouldn’t trust her in a muggle electronics store, Adolph. She would certainly break everything, I think.” Serena raised an eyebrow in response before speaking, “I have business. A meeting. Well…both really. The Ministry is quite a thing, isn’t it? It makes things,” she searched for the right term, “strenuous.”

He smirked at the thought; "I'm counting on it, actually." Adolph looked around them, considering; while he was running slightly late for his usual early arrival in the Department of Mysteries, he supposed the lobby was starting to become crowded. "I do like to time my arrivals to best avoid that side of things," he admitted thoughtfully, "you'd think the Ministry would, at the very least, be capable of renting somewhere that makes them seem organised or, Merlin forbid, grand."

He smiled at her, chuckling slightly - silently thanking no one that she didn’t have a horrid high-pitched giggle. She did it often enough that it would be grating if it were; as it was, at least her eyes lit up whenever she did so. It was a look that suited her. “Relax, Emma. No one is going to judge you for your...hm, self expression.”
By the time their designated waiter showed up, Adolph had selected some mushroom dish for Emma’s entree, and himself a prawn dish, oysters for the main for both, and then instructed the servant to return to order desserts. “And a bottle of the 2007 Domaine Artoine chardonnay,” he finished, before dismissing the man altogether.
Left alone, he stretched, shifting his legs closer to her, his feet pressed against hers. “Have I ever told you how pleased I am that your work gives you time for play?”

Emma giggled again; the old school-girl tricks of flirting. She didn’t know why she always went back to those. It was strange because she didn’t need to win Adolph’s attention; she already had what was rightfully hers. Rubbing her toes across his calf, her eyes were brighter than the lights and she was drunk off the excitement of the night.
“Oooh my, I could certainly think of a few good uses for the chocolate sauce.” Their bedroom tricks often slipped into conversations, and this was no different. “I can, in fact, imagine how rich the flowing chocolate would taste…mmhmm…” The Vanity woman closed her eyes, moaning a little at the thought. And in an instant, her eyes were open again. Alert and looking around them.
“We should order. I want to try everything on this menu, so I suppose you should choose.”

"I prefer your more compelling dreams, my lady. I'll let you dream those." The combination of their close acquaintance, beneath-the-table game and the tone of their conversation made it clear exactly what Adolph deemed to be compelling.
He almost sighed; it seemed the place kept to a restricted gourmet menu. He could only hope that the serving size was more generous, and worth the hefty price tag, to be sure. His eyes almost never danced as Emma's did in a moment of good fun, but before he glanced back at her, they certainly came close. "It wouldn't be too difficult to get some additional chocolate sauce for the side, I suppose. There would have to be all kinds of uses for such a delicacy - I'm sure your imagination can come up with some that are very fun, indeed." The implication was clear: he was handing over control to Emma. He didn't often do so, but for tonight - well, he supposed it was somehow special. They would make it that way.

Adolph rolled his eyes at his partner; sometimes, Emma simply baffled him. He actually scoffed at her implication, as if he cared for the decor of the place. “You and I both know I would not bother; if the company doesn’t make the dinner bearable, then the perceived prettiness of the table wouldn’t. I’m sure this is just the default for this place.”
And, looking around, he wasn’t wrong - a similar orb decorated each table, though different flowers were used. He debated a moment before freeing his foot, the better to play her game. “Then I’m pleased you find this acceptable. The entree itself…hm. I wonder if they serve oysters.” Not because of their exquisite taste, of course - no, he was more interested in their aphrodisiac effect.
